Question - is our lack of recent activity possibly in some way related to actually qualifying for the Champions League group stage and the proceeding commercial benefits thereafter? Something about net spend, FFP, ensuring guarantee of Champions League games and spending endorsement money.

Could be, shitty planning if true, but could be.

Griezmann has a release clause of roughly 80 million euros afaik. KDB wouldn't cost 100 million euros either. Bale would be the only one fitting the bill if we are looking at one player alone.
neymar, maybe....

Or we've got a contract ready to go that depends on Champions League qualification before signing? Ie they wanted to join us, but his agent said to stand firm until then?
I'm so cynical from being burnt too many times in the past...although this does give me slight hope and a bulge in my trousers. No, I'm going to say it's bollocks.

It would start a lot of media stuff about United "just signing him to sell shirts" if they went for him.

We really should be all over that transfer. A fast solid underrated player. Plus we would spite Spurs for the sake of it. Having said that I am surprised at the figures quoted, which seem quite high.

I'm confused, but why would a Dutch newspaper know about our transfer dealings? Unless it's just an opinion piece which some people have been saying

Dunno but they called the three transfers in one weekend. Seems they have some sort of link in the van Gaal side of things

I don't see your explanation for Bale.
Do you really think that Perez would accept a huge offer for Bale including DDG when he sees him as the new face of Madrid when Ronaldo will leave them? If that wasn't the case, we would've signed Bale much earlier this summer.

Digne joins Roma on loan with an option to make the deal permanent.

Illarramendi for 39m was a weird one. He fitted the profile of what they were looking for, an unassuming DM that would let others play and work their magic, except for one factor: he's just not that good.

It is an opinion piece, I've read it. The problem is that de Telegraaf never mention sources so it's impossible to tell wether they know something or that it is one of their usual bollocks articles. They have been right and they have been wrong in the past.

Wasnt there rumours of Ashley Cole going to Everton on a free until Baines returns? Or did I dream that?

The problem with this, and our search for a striker in general, is that for that sort of fee, you're looking at about 10 players or so (think Suarez, Aguero, Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Neymar, Muller, Hazard, Lewandowski), and none of them seem achievable. From that list Muller or Lewandowski seem the most plausible, but that's a stretch.

De telegraf were first to report LVG to united even when moyes was managing us, they also reported blind last year and the three medicals this year. I think they have close links to LVG, this maybe an off the record statement from LVG to one of his friends at the newpaper that we can spend 100 million euros on a player if we want to. Doesnt mean we will though, the paper isnt putting its neck on the line, so i doubt it is a sure thing. Maybe its just a maybe.

That would be beyond stupid from Juve and nearly matching us in the getting rid of players stakes.

Having said that, if it's true, we could do worse than try and get him for free.
