Bastian Schweinsteiger is poised to sign for Manchester United from Bayern Munich, with German newspaper Bild claiming the switch is imminent.

The fee is believed to be around 20m euros and the midfielder will sign a three-year deal worth 10m euros per annum.

It must be an ingrained auto-response for Caf member to immediately translate their emotional feelings to a transfer to either a positive or negative reaction to the fee! It's incredible.

1. Who actually gives a shit? Yeah, if it was a "big money" signing then I could see why it might register slightly but it's not your money!

2. €18m is, as said, just shy of £13m. If the fee was quoted as being around £10m then people wouldn't bat an eyelid. A few million more, in this market, is nothing.

I hope this isn't the only midfield signing we make this summer but, let's be clear, it's Schweinsteiger!

Woody right now:

Probably been agreeing deals all year just so he can announce them all at once and get that delicious euphoric rush he so craves. Waiting for Schneiderlin, Otamendi and Müller/Lacazette before the weekend is over. Woodward may also be found dead in a pile of cocaine and signed contracts before long.

We could very easily sign both if we wanted, Schneiderlin is ours for the taking. Just hope we don't leave it and Arsenal take him.
I guess it falls down to whether or not LVG thinks of Bastian as that defensive-mid he said he wanted months ago.

Oh FFS you've got me, rejoice!
It's the way they announced it with such conviction that makes it very believable. Similar to Ballague and Di Maria last summer. That's their reputation fecked if it doesn't happen.

Practical side - Gee, I'd love to have him but I hope this doesn't mean we're not going after Schneiderlin. Let's see how it develops.

Muppet side - SCHWEEEEEEEEEIIIIIINSTEEEEEEEIIIIIIGER!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Fee is a bit high, but when express in pounds, not so bad.

I wonder if by settling this transfer first will ease the negotiations for Schneiderlin. At this point, Southampton is in letting go mode and are resigned to the idea that Morgan is gone, as well as planning his replacement. Having signed Bastian, Woody can intimate that maybe we don't want to sign Morgan at the price quoted, so either sell at our price or deal with an unhappy player. It might bring their price a little down.

Hope this doesn't end our interest in Schneiderlin.
It's clear most of us feel this way. Would love Schweini here but Schneidi secures the long-term. The caf twitter account should post the results of the poll we had re who we'd rather see at the club (Schweini/Schneidi). Obviously should add we want both of them..

Can you imagine if we somehow acquire Ramos, Otamendi, GK (Lloris/Leno) and ST (Lacazette/Benteke) along Depay, Darmian, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin?

I think there is very little chance that Bild would go in without being certain but then people thought the same about Gundogan

Even if we added just Lacazette and Otamendi to those transfers, I think next season could be successful.

Some of criticism regarding his reported transfer fee is kind of over the top, you'd have thunk he was some scrub get picked off the streets. Yes, Van Persie will be sold for less than half of the figure, but his wages are debilitating. United isn't exactly cash strapped, so £14 million for one of the best, most experienced central midfielders in Europe who was crucial for the World Cup winners, and Champions League semi-finalists is pretty reasonable even if he can play at a high level for only 2 seasons or so from the rumoured 3 year contract. Xabi Alonso joined Bayern for about £8 million just last season, and Schweinsteiger is just as good of a player apart from being 3 years younger. Even the £140,000 per week wages are appropriate considering Lampard earned £150,000 at Chelsea and Gerrard £140,000 at Liverpool, both players in Schweinsteiger's ballpark in terms of overall quality.

I'd prefer it if it meant us keeping De Gea for another year. I'd even expect us to seriously challenge for the title.

That was a done deal until barca showed interest in the player and his agent tried to demand higher wages from utd.

Can't blame bild or der western for misleading, they were on the money but shit happens i guess.

Schweinsteiger AND Ramos would give us some serious winners in the squad again
