I doubt Beckham really developed during his time at Preston - it was more that he was so impressive in those few matches that Ferguson were convinced he was ready. He only played 5 matches there.
He got voted Preston’s second greatest player in a pole not long after he left second to the legendary Tom Finney so it must off worked out well

Breaking news: Manchester United, after a busy period of outgoing loans, have incredibly left themselves with not enough to form a premiership squad

He played 5 games - he was there about a month. I don't care how great that stay was - no player develops a lot in 1 month :)

Official: Radek Vitek signs a new contract with United until 2027 and joins Accrington Stanley on loan for the rest of the season

Wouldn't a loan space have been freed up with Reguillon going back?

Then when you add Sancho, Hannibal, Gore, Hugill, (Pellistri*)... How can the finances still be so tight?

Because we were most likely already overspent before those deals. Not that they'll have saved us much anyway. And we've lost out on £15m+ by crashing out of Europe.

tight finances for even loans? feck me   might as well pack up the season

still think that's got to be bs

Season could have been packed up months ago.

Don't hold your breath on anyone coming in.

Tier 1:

Day of contacts between Granada and Manchester United to unblock the negotiation of Facundo Pellistri but still no green light from the English club.

Granada still believe they are in the race, but more time is needed. The parties will continue to work in the coming hours.

Unless there is a ridiculous out going transfer in the next couple days, no one is coming in. Prepare for 4 months of Rashford up front.

Yeah I have accepted that's happening, will be like playing with no striker when he does

Disgusting the state of our finances

Lots of clubs are struggling with FFP - but we are suffering from a lack of sales over the last few seasons. Off-loading 5-6 players and generate £150 million in sales now and during the summer would solve most of our problems. Removing v.d Beek, Sancho, Hannibal, Martial, Varane, Eriksen and a few others from our wagebill will also work miracles. I haven't looked it up but I would assume v.d Beek, Martial, Sancho, Varane and Eriksen alone will be about £50 million a year. And it shouldn't be hard to find replacements whose wages are less than half and whose contribution will be a lot bigger.

Sell Varane, Casemiro, Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Rashford, Eriksen, Martial leaving and we’re good with FFP.

A proper, fast-paced clear out is needed. Retool the wage budget and let Berrada restructure the wage hierarchy.

Sporting Director and Head of Recruitment are where my eyes at. Who these guys are will determine how we go about Summer. Neppe from Bayern was so so good for them. Always seemed to get great deals and fast operator too. Let’s see.

This is why Murtough is a bum. A club like United, and we dont even have the funds for our customary emergency shit loan striker.

So what? Why does anyone even want us to panic loan some shite forward? We're better off doing nothing until competent people are put in place

The only thing I would say is that we have a 20 year old striker who has a back problem that is being managed, our season is basically over already barring the FA Cup so maybe we just leave Hojlund out of some league games but we really don't have much cover for him. We need to get away from the short term signings but we also need to make sure we protect Hojlund.

If only Ten Hag hadn't wasted 55 million on an average Chelsea player who has done the square root of eff all since he arrived. That transfer gets more bizarre and ridiculous every day.

I fully agree.

Hojlund and Onana I actually could see the reason for even though we again overpaid.

Hojlund for potential
Onana for how he can play out from the back, just too bad he is not as strong with his hands :-)

But Mount was injury proned before he came, he had been crap for Chealsea for a while, his best position is the same as Bruno and he was overpriced. On top of this we gave him a salary that is way above his worth, so not possible to sell again.

Agree.
Save the money, and prepare for next season. EtH already got enough for top 4 or to progress from CL group.

Assuming 5th is enough to get CL next season, do you really expect us to overcome the 8 point gap over the remaining 17 games when we cannot score for toffee and look like conceding every attack.

We didn’t need to buy Onana. De Gea would have been fine for another season and the £50m could have purchased a decent CH. Ball playing GK may be fine but first and foremost they need to be able to keep the ball out the net. Plus with a solid CH, how much better would our defence be? Last summer our purchases in the main were baffling. £200m+ to make the team weaker. Plus in both summers ETH has over spent knowingly in the summer which means in the Jan window we were / are penniless.

Nah. Loan or no loan we won't finish in top 5. We have issues which one player can't fix it.

De De Gea-Onana debacle is a perfect example of the chaos around the club, and the lack of awareness of some fans.

DeGea was offered an extension on the same huge wages until Ten Hag intervened. It’s good that he did.

I was in favor of keeping De Gea for another year on lower wages. That wasn’t going to happen. So we needed to replace him instead of overpaying him another year, because well run clubs don’t do that.

I’m glad that Onana is here though, he is such an obvious improvement playing out the back. He did help botch our CL campaign, but the whole team is responsible for that. He will be fine.

Anyway to say that we should have kept De Gea makes no sense, financially and football wise.

Where we really failed is in not getting a world class CB. Instead we are lining up with Maguire and Evans ( who is a brilliant backup signing). That is just really poor management.

I am not saying we should not have prioritized diffenrently. Maybe a CB, but who could now we would have so many injuries in defense this year.
But I can see why ETH wanted Onana and Højlund. I have no clue why he wanted Mount. He does not fit and he was crap last year.

De Gea was offered and agreed an extension on lower wages. If you are happy with Onana then thats your view but he has been awful imo so far. His international form crap as well so at least hes been consistent. Keeping de Gea meant we could have used the £50m for Onana on a CH to replace Maguire and negate the need ofr Evans as we were by then Skint ! Onana All round has been a Awful purchase and one you grasp at straws to try and say otherwise. The whole summer was terrible and the previous one not much better.
