I don't think wee need worry ourselves too much about what City & Liverpool are doing at the moment.

Our main rivals next season will likely be Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, Leicester and maybe Newcastle. We need to clear the deadwood and put a team together that is capable of competing for third/fourth place.

Yeah that is the painful reality right now

Sounds like rubbish because there's no way to measure the credibility in approach

Woodward made it very easy to be less than credible despite being a supposedly affable chap ..just not the football type. Disneyland. Commerical club. There's quite a few things that have come out over the years. His being gone immediately makes it credible to me!

  • Discussions on Darwin Núñez several weeks ago - but they have other priorities at that type of fee
  • Suggestions that Erik ten Hag boarded a flight to talk to Jorge Mendes, one of the agents involved in Nunez’s transfer, were bogus.
  • Frenkie de Jong has now given indications that a move to mufc is appealing to him
  • Kalvin Phillips move unlikely due to Leeds rivalry
  • Concerns over N'Golo Kante's injury record
  • Declan Rice being priced out of a move by West Ham
  • Jude Bellingham remains top of wishlist but any approach would be next summer

Those cones won’t pick themselves up. Although I guess we also need something for Darren Fletcher to do.

Well that was disappointing, almost zero new information - I think I could have given those answers. The Bellingham, rice and Phillips stuff from an ‘in the know’ journalists is bloody embarrassing.

That’s how it has to be. The mailbag is a scam - if there really was news they’d have written an article rather than waited for someone to ask in a question and answer session.

This was pretty obvious tbf, and it was a clear tactic by the Portuguese club to extract more money upfront out of Liverpool.
It made zero sense as we knew we'd spoke to his agent already, what's Ten Hag going to portugal going to achieve if were not willing to pay the price before?

The way I see it - if we can sign Kante for less than £30 million - it's a no brainer. Him and de Jong would make a superb central midfield - and we then actually have a good depth as well. He can fill our gap until we can get Rice or Bellingham - which at the earliest will be next season

Yes, Kante under 30 would be a good buy in my book with Frenkie joining us too. It would transform our non-existing midfield.

I'd prefer to see us take a punt on someone like Laimer or Sangare than a 31 year old Kanté on massive wages.

I say that as someone who desperately wanted us to buy Kanté when Chelsea did. It's just not the right move now - let's get younger, hungrier players with something to prove and the legs to run opposition midfields into the ground. Replacing Matic with Kanté now wouldn't be a step forward.

Possibly but then the flip side if we had such a scatter gun approach in the past it might be immediately obvious if we improve things.

I think we'll know by the end of the summer. if we pick up FDJ early and manage to bring in players in the positions we need then I think thats evidence enough that we're getting better.

Just tell them the offer runs until the 29th, they have to come up with silly money by the 30th so we're in a pretty strong position to hold firm here.

Plus having the player agree personal terms is huge, they've already told him they don't want him, so can't see him being too happy to be messed around by them.

Isn't this chap abit of a bs merchant ?
He was banned on here at one point. Complete bullshitter for years now.

There are plenty of actual journalists who are just extremely speculative to get clicks, then there are those who literally make stuff up out of thin air and have about as much inside information as you, me and Mr Blobby. He’s one of them.

DeJong, Timber, Kante, Nunez, thats not a bad first week of the transfer window. LetsGoGlazers!

Fair enough. Good singing. Something we definitely need. Barca under financial pressure. He hasn’t been consistently balling it there. Good deal for both clubs as the word is he’s on big wages too. Hopefully wrap this up and move on to another 2 or 3 signings asap.

@Adnan what do you think of Matheus Nunes at sporting. Would he bea good partner for de Jong or would them two not be a balanced duo in a 4231.

Agree. Hope Barca realise how important we are to their summer transfer plans and are willing to give a fair price.

I've never seen him play apart from YouTube highlights. But from watching his highlights he seems like a midfielder who would be best utilised next to a positionally disciplined midfielder, who would in-turn allow Nunes the creative freedom to showcase his dribbling ability in possession.

Or Pogba mk II...the same problem we've been trying to solve for 6 years.

It won't be a Pogba problem because de Jong is quick and agile at getting back into position which makes a big difference.

De Jong does the basics very well.
ten Hags football is based on doing the basics consistently. Then individual quality can take you to the next level. Fred and Bruno will have to learn the basic stuff is paramount.

De Jong does the basics very well.
He's a metronome that is quick on the turn with and without the ball. And he's proven himself playing in a team at Ajax who sacrificed defensive stability for goals in a high tempo/high intensity approach.
