Would be such a good squad signing too but certainly not at €80m. Not even anywhere near €80m. That's just batshit mad.

Yeah, when I saw we were interested and he had 1yr left I was expecting £25-30m. €80m is £68m which is nuts.

It’s barely begun, window isn’t even officially open yet
I know, but Liverpool are way ahead of us again and others have their targets in their sights. It just seems we are trundling along at the same pace as the last few years again. I also think very few people are going to commit to us whilst our owners keep acting like whores in a shop window.

Like they were way ahead of us last summer? How'd that turn out for them? Must have been a title challenge and a trophy at the minimum with all those smart early signings tearing shit up.

I get what you feel, but it’s just to soon to panic now. Also, it’s not like anyone is ahead just because they signed a player.

We can all panic together later if it comes to that

How many times have we seen this before? How many times have we heard "we shouldn't be panicking right now?"

Lets wait until August, pay 100m for a 50m player and move on.

Early transfers only make a difference insofar as they allow new players to be there for the first day of preseason. We're still way off that point at the moment. The first match in Bangkok is over 4 weeks away yet.

There are no prizes for being the first one to tie up their shoelaces before the race.

Oh wow, an amazingly original post. As if inability to do some early business is something new for the club.

I think the point is give it time. No amount of whinging and whining will change the course of this transfer window. If in August we are scratching around and looking a mess I'll be moaning with you. As it stands it's early doors see how it plays out.

Which was my original point - we WILL be scratching around in a mess in August and overpaying for what the club thinks is a headline signing, but is in reality a panic signing because the owners think we should be looking like we are competing. It is a depressingly familiar routine.

I desperately hope I am wrong, but experience does not lead me to think I am.

Off topic, but Nani and Evra still looked good yesterday - both of them knock Sancho and Martial into a cocked hat, and a shame ETH didn't bring Keane in to show Wout how to finish. :)

Oh dont get me wrong, Utd negotiators can take all the time in the world. Thats what they do. It has been a theme for last 4 years so i don't see why this time would be any different.

This Masan Mount transfer will drag on Chelsea will try their best to feck us.

Hopefully we got others in and don’t wait for wrapping up Mount or Kane

Wouldn't be surprised if we drop the deal now, do feck all whole summer and end up paying 90m to Chelsea come August.

Preseason in 4 weeks and already all the clubs well ahead of us in a transfer race. Typical.

We might as well shut the club down anyway - City will now win the quadruple every season for the next 10 years and so will Liverpool and Newcastle.... we're fecked

Then what’s your alternative?
Pay the 90m right now? If so, you’ll moan about how bad United are at negotiating and that we should have waited because the player wants to leave.
Go and splurge 90m on Rice? But then we’d be complaining about overpaying.
Caicedo? Brighton will also make us pay over the odds. A few average games and we’ll turn on the scouts and complaining about how he’s not « good enough for United ».

That’s the same pattern of moaning and complaining every year.

Oh and by the way, I think recruiting Mount wouldn’t be really good business, whether we buy him now or at the end of the window. Just wanted to highlight how this place has turned negative regarding anything and everything the club does or doesn’t do.

Your have been burned at the stake for saying that 10 yes ago....

Don't Chelsea need to sell players by the end of June for FFP reasons? We're probably planning on waiting til the end of June as there's no point wrapping it up any earlier than that, and Chelsea won't drop their price until they have to.

The age old transfer window debate has begun in fine form I see. “It’s still early, doesn’t matter what other teams do, we have loads of time, etc” versus the so called negative lot who basically just go on past and more likely continued experience regarding our ineptitude every summer.

There's just no way we can spend 80m on Mount. We've got to learn from previous mistakes, we've got 150m quids worth of underperforming winger shaped donkeys at the club right now even.

How is it so many other clubs can nab bargains and we always get rinsed? Mount and Mac Allister are probably quite similar in quality but the latter is going for half the price of the former.

The manager literally doesn't know the true extent of his transfer budget, he'll have one for if we're taken over and one if we're not. We now have to prioritise who we sign first and keep the other players sweet and guarantee them somehow, we will be sold and they can be signed.

Of course and it’s far from an ideal situation for EtH but there is always some obstacle for United to overcome whether it’s a potential sale this year or just our general lack of ability in the window in others. Let’s hope we have some news on sale soon then as I could see it going on for some weeks yet and pre season will be here before we know it.

So fecking predictable. It's the same every year.
