Would rather sign Ziyech for about £30m than pay what we are for Antony.
I agree. Sign Ziyech or a player swap with HM, and sign Antony next year for less than the €80m they now want. Ziyech under ETH will show more than he has for Chelsea under Tuchel.

RedCafe complains at us for targeting players from Eredivisie as they might flop in the PL.....

RedCafe suggests we forget our main targets and sign a player from Eredivisie that has already flopped in PL.

RedCafe logic, ladies and gents.

Not to mention the fee and wages we'd pay for Ziyech this year would negate any fee we saved on waiting until next summer to sign Antony

Its gradually gathering steam again so let’s see..
What about if he signs

I honestly can't buy into it. I was always a bit sceptical but when I look at the situation now, my head just tells me something is up...

1) Barca apparently desperate to sell
2) FDJ apparently wants to join (suppose it's true)
3) Barca can't even register Kounde and he's getting annoyed. May even lose him.
4) Our season has started badly, we're going to be 3 games in as of tonight

How, with all that considered, has this deal not happened? Barca or United could have found a way to pay FDJ, easily. FDJ could have lowered his demands to help it through, as opposed to risking this whole move that he apparently wants.

It just doesn't make any sense. The only thing I conclude, that would make total sense to me, is that point 2 is incorrect. Everybody else wants this deal. Us and Barca are throwing money around, yet won't shell out a small (in the grand scheme) amount between us to pacify FDJ? I just cant buy it.

Not only that but journalists generally considered close to United have poured cold water on it. Romano has said nothing has changed and FDJ wants to stay.

I may be spectacularly wrong here, but I just don't see where any hope still lies.

2 not being the case is certainly possible, or it really could be that we're not inclined to settle Barca's tab to De Jong on a point of principle, they won't because they can't and he won't agitate because that strengthens Barca's position to not pay. Who knows?

 That is true!

It bugs me when people call out the club and Woodward/Murtough/Arnold for things(they deserve to be called out for things that they clearly do get wrong), then make even worse suggestions themselves. I don't even get where the idea that he will definitely be cheaper next summer comes from. That's a total risk, he may have a stormer at the WC and have the best teams right now all over him. Then they'll complain that we didn't sign him.

I am all for United identifying their no.1 targets and just making it happen. It's what big clubs with ambition do. That's been part of the problem with us over the years. Obviously that applies to FDJ too, but if he has no interest then in that situation it only makes sense to move on.

And….if Antony comes and flops? Would it not be better to sign someone on a lower fee who has also worked with the manager before (and did well for him) than go all out for a player who may not work for a huge fee?
Ziyech will be available for circa 20m Antony 80m im sure we wont be paying Ziyech the near 60m difference in wages

Caf logic?

Is it settling Barca's tab, or just paying Barca what they need from the deal. It can be framed either way. Let's not forget that our offer miraculously increased by 7m euros (if I remember right), I don't think that is a coincidence. I think that was us saying 'the money is there to pay some of his outstanding wages if he decides to leave'.

If ETH is more confident in Antony then that's all I need. I've seen enough of the two now to know which I would prefer, regardless of fees. I see no sense in signing Ziyech to sit on our bench.

At the end of the day, I really don't care about how much we spend on players, but the constant overpaying for players really does just perpetuate the issue of team's fleecing us.

You didn't say sign Ziyech instead of Antony, you said sign Ziyech now and sign Antony next summer, hence the comment about the difference..

Has anyone ever confirmed this? They rinsed us pretty badly over Martinez and we didnt go in late for him
We did. They had already sold Haller and 2 players to Bayern. It was widely reported
Becks wasn’t exciting, couldn’t beat his man and had no great tricks. But his crossing and dead ball ability were exceptional.
Ronaldo & Nani were our last really exciting right wingers.
Early days Valencia was devouring left backs for breakfast

I'm sure but hypothetically, as all of this speculation is, "some of" might be as far as we're prepared to go.
Or he just doesn't want to come but that'd be bizarre given how far we've taken this.

He wasn't. A lot of people are going on hyperboles about how bad he was, which is untrue, causing some overcorrection on the other side with people saying he was good for 2 seasons, which he wasn't.

The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of defenders. Nowhere near good enough despite our 2nd place finish season, immune to critisism by friends in the media, and universally memed on social media by opposition fans since the moment they stepped foot at United, and imo rightly so.

The Brexit cultural reboot under Solskjaer was an absolute catastrophe, and Maguire/Wan Bissaka are the poster boys of that era in the same way Fellaini was for the Moyes era.
It's pretty ironic talking about hyperboles in a post that is hyperbolic itself. He was good that season. If he played like that always, he'd easily be good enough. Unfortunately he doesn't, and he isn't, but there's no point rewriting the past. His first season was okay, not particularly good, not a disaster. But after the whole Greek fiasco, and up until and including Euro 2020, he was a very good defender.

Tier 3:

Eric Bailly is keen to join OM. Still no compromise on salary but agreement with Manchester United in the form of a loan with option to buy.

Also reported by a local Marseille news outlet in La Provence (Tier 3):

La Provence reports that the conditional purchase obligation/buy option amount is between 6-7 million Euros.

Yes and my point still stands. Ziyech now for circa 20m and then Antony next year for less than the €80m being quoted now simply because of how late in the window it is.

Im pretty sure we were quoted a €60m fee a month or so ago…

Yeah which was my point, the €20m you think we'd save in buying Antony next year rather than this year would all go on Ziyech, saving us nothing and just meaning we wait a year for our first choice target then end up with an ageing squad player on a decent wage in Ziyech who would be sat on the bench more often than not.

Yeah but thats if he doesn't perform. Its all moot point as we are clearly not in for Ziyech unless Ajax refuse the Antony deal. If however we signed Ziyech and he had a great season would we really need Antony next season? The saving we would make could be used in other areas.

Im not for a second saying we shouldn’t be in for Antony just that the price we from €40m to €60m and now €80m possibly now even higher is a lot for a player who we could get early next summer for less.

Alot of wasted talent on here....

I mean, some of you guys know so much more than ETH, its crazy you haven't been picked up for a role in the club transfers. ETH has worked with the team in training, he's worked with players like Antony and knows what their temperament is, how/where they can play, how well they do with instructions. That's all well and good, but some on here, I mean, you've seen YouTube videos, watched a few matches here and there, looked up stats and have a much better understanding of what we need and, more importantly, how much we should pay. Although, I'm sure if we didn't pay what other teams ask, you'd surely have no problem whatsoever signing no more players.

Baffling really..

Not sure if reliable

I found the article that is associated with the Tweet: https://oglobo.globo.com/esportes/n...bre-proposta-ao-ajax-para-r-486-milhoes.ghtml

The headline is the only place that mentions an "agreement". There's no mention of it anywhere else. On top of that, this article does not provide their own information and, instead, aggregates information from various outlets, including The Sun, Romano, and ESPN Netherlands. I'd consider this fake news for the time being.

In the article, they mention that United are preparing a new offer of €94m, which is the furthest they go. Even this isn't new information as Santi Aouna has already reported this a few days back.

It's embarrassing how many adults lack the awareness to have some humility in their opinions. A good number of people on here will probably either not work or work a low skill job which has nothing to do with football

Same people probably think they can solve all the issues with the economy etc. The more stupid someone is, the more confident they are in their uneducated opinions.

Have opinions, speculate etc but the venom and toxicity that is brought on by the confidence of ignorance is too much. The least fun part of football is genuinely our fan base, at least United are only miserable for 90 minutes a week.

So if you work a low paid job or are unemployed you are stupid and ignorant?

Point is Ajax are selling a player for vast amount of money, then buying a player of equal talent for way less. Ziyech has barely been given a chance by Chelsea.

I’m not suggesting we keep buying from the Dutch league at all. Just an observation of the current transfers taking place .
