If Maguire isn't going to be a starter we really need to push a transfer to Chelsea. Our best chance of getting a big fee for him.

Guys I am getting frustrated.
Strap yourself in its going to be some end to a transfer window! Anthony, Gapko , FDJ ( probably not but feck it let's see ) and who knows what else. Absolutely mental transfer strategy but let's see, at least its something to follow

Never said he wasn’t special, just personal opinion that I find players with breathtaking acceleration and who glide past players as exciting. Such as Kanchelskis, Giggs, NanI, Ronnie (1st time at United). Becks simply wasn’t that type of player.
Odd that people have taken it that I said he’s not a great player or wasn’t entertaining.
I get what you meant. Saying he wasn't an amazing dribbler is no denigration.

I have no idea which is part of the problem. Not sure which transfer to get emotionally involved with.

I would suggest not to get emotionally involved with any transfer, we have seen many exciting transfers for the past 9 years but once the player joins United he looks like a mediocre player like most of our players.

What a load of bollocks. First minute alone disproves this nonsense. Did you actually ever see him play?

How did Becks not win Ballon D'Or is beyond me...

But a funny thought occurred after watching this trip down memory lane: De Bruyne looks so much like Becks in his Madrid period. A midfield powerhouse who is technical, physical and reads the game incredibly well.

Split vote in 1999. In fairness it could have been him or Dwight Yorke. At the very least they should have been 1+2.

Back in the day when we actually had a manager who thought long term instead of trying to rinse every bit of talent out of a player before panicking when he can’t do it anymore .
I don't agree. Selling Beckham when he did was foolish. Ferguson just couldn't stand Posh and Becks' lifestyle. It had nothing to do with profit or long-termism.

I would like to know what transfer you are not happy with, the ones we already made and the ones we are going after. It is interesting to hear full thoughts. If you care to share

Isnt this related to the shoe incident or whatever? Not sure if my mind plays tricks to me but i seem to remember the media making a big thing out of the relationship between Fergie and Becks. and how horrible it generally was.

Solskjaer was better than Beckham in his last season though. The plan wasn’t to play Ronaldo and suffer through his growing phase as a starter but to play behind Ole. Having Beckham as a third wouldn’t have worked but that’s how a well oiled club is run. That’s before we remember that we thought we had Ronaldinho in the bag as well.
Today we cling on to Beckham and Ruud for all we’ve got and worry about replacing them in 2/3 times when we come to it.

SAF valued Becks’ talent and importance more than his lifestyle. Otherwise he would have already got rid in 1996 when Becks and his wife got together, and not 7 years later.
However Becks’ motivation and work rate did drop around 2002 and when SAF made the U-Turn and decided against retirement he made the decision that this was a new era and should be best planned without Becks. And in hindsight it was the right decision.

I am happy with what we have done so far, although I have reservations about martinez and casemiro. One because of the step up and the other because we have been burnt plenty of times before with this sort of transfer. Hopefully they both work out for us and if they do they will be great additions. Malacia too looked very good in pre season.

Just feel its a bit scatter gun and not very organised. It's hard to know obviously but I have very little faith in the club (which I am sure I am not alone in) and it feels like at his stage we may be throwing money around in the hope that something works.

Good sum up. I fear the same but I think next summer transfer window is vital for ETH and the Club, I hope we remain competitive by then and he doesn’t get fired.

I've got to admit, I know nothing of Antony. I looked up his stats when we were linked earlier in the window and was underwhelmed. I finally got around to watching a youtube compilation last night - and i'm sold, other than being a diving cheat, he plays football how it should be played.

He absolutely was in the season where we finished second. Revisionism to suggest otherwise.
He wasn't. A lot of people are going on hyperboles about how bad he was, which is untrue, causing some overcorrection on the other side with people saying he was good for 2 seasons, which he wasn't.

The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of defenders. Nowhere near good enough despite our 2nd place finish season, immune to critisism by friends in the media, and universally memed on social media by opposition fans since the moment they stepped foot at United, and imo rightly so.

The Brexit cultural reboot under Solskjaer was an absolute catastrophe, and Maguire/Wan Bissaka are the poster boys of that era in the same way Fellaini was for the Moyes era.

Would rather sign Ziyech for about £30m than pay what we are for Antony.

I agree. Sign Ziyech or a player swap with HM, and sign Antony next year for less than the €80m they now want. Ziyech under ETH will show more than he has for Chelsea under Tuchel.
