The later we go, the more reluctant Barca will be to sell. Bear in mind they’re trying to replace him with Bernardo Silva, one of the absolute best players for the Premier League winners. As we move through the window, the less likely both events are to happen.

I don’t think this is going to happen unfortunately.

If we get those 2 we won't need to play a dm,Christ those 2 in midfield will be perfect.
Worrying how many people still don't understand that the midfield affects the team's ability to defend. We conceded 57 goals last season. That's 4 more than Burnley who were relegated. Yes we need a dm

I don’t think Ten Hag even plays with a dm since he pushes everyone up to press high. That just may be enough if he can get the team actually pressing the opposition
At Ajax he's always played a dm. First Schone, and then Alvarez. They're very important to his team.

And the more players you have in your team who can’t actually play football and are there for their defensive abilities, the more you end up defending.

No way we only have 3 first team level centre backs. We must get someone in, even if it's a veteran or a young prospect as backup as a minimum.
It literally says we’ll make a signing if we can sell Jones Bailly and or Tuanzebe

Manchester United continue to raise offer: 70 [million Euros] + bonus for the Dutchman.

Club remains convinced he will leave
Hopefully this is his own info, but this reads more like him sharing what Jamie Jackson reported earlier today.

This makes sense. There's no way we could guarantee Timber he's a starter. He'd have to beat out two of Maguire, Varane and Lindelof. Sure he's confident in himself but risky thing to do in a WC year. Seems he doesn't want to play RB.

Also, we can't fully commit to signing a defender with 6 CBs in the squad and needing to oust 2-3 of them.

Not really surprising though. Hopefully he'll sign in January or next summer.

Varane is injury prone and Maguire can't play a high line to save his life, we've got 23 matches in 15 weeks before the World Cup.

Schobe definitely wouldn’t be held up as a classical DM. Alvarez absolutely. One of Ten Hag’s strength seems to be his adaptability.

We won’t recreate Ajax’s system he will create a tailor made one for us.

Real Madrid have won 5 European cups in the last decade without one. Definitely not needed if you have the right quality.

Casemiro has played a lot of games in that time frame. Isn't he a DM?

Then What is Casimiro if he isn't a DM , though you may get away without playing dedicated DM but you certainly need somebody who is comfortable enough to play just in front of the defense and initiate play from there .

Schone was never a DM and I think Frenkie was already gone when Alvarez came
Schone nearly always stayed deep to help the team defensively. FDJ dropped into the back 3 because he was so good at receiving and progressing the ball but his ball winning and tackling were never a big asset of his (he was still ok at it mind you). VDB was the one who pushed forward the most. Alvarez was another example of a player being tasked with staying deeper to show that this type player is definitely used by ETH (at least at Ajax, I'm not as aware of his Utecht team's roles).

Ya tbf maybe a deep lying playmaker would be more accurate for Schone but the point is he tended to stay deep rather than pushing forward the way VDB and Gravenberch did. FDJ was the dm really but not for his defensive ability in the way Alvarez was. I think ETH said in an interview that this was specifically to help FDJ who wasn't particularly great defensively but was incredible at receiving and progressing the ball up the pitch. FDJ would regularly drop into the defence in this system (which I imagine we will see at Utd too considering how poor our defence is). I just worry that his partner won't be able to compliment him. Fred can win possession back really well but has poor positioning and is quite limited on the ball. McTominay has better positioning but can be quite inconsistent in his tackling and pressing and is again extremely limited on the ball. Both are absolutely terrible at receiving the ball which is why I think FDJ would make a huge difference.
