How on earth do they plan to register Lewandowski?
As M4YON alluded to, they still have to sell 49.9% of their licensing & media rights. If they still can't register Lewandowski, then that'll be their third lever.

No delight (see what i did there?) for Bayern and Lewandowski to score another 35 goals in the Bundesliga.
Leverndowski, amirite?

Because he's literally begging to stay and refusing to leave by all accounts.

So why are there reports of United saying that they're happy that de Jong is keen to join them? Surely they would not be in it for so long if they didn't have such assurances from his agent?

What about next season after Lewandowski isn't for Barca what he was for Bayern, Raphina proves he is not up to step up in class from Leeds, and Christensen is as meaningless as he was for Chelsea.

They might need a few more levers next summer as well, but not sure they think that far ahead.

Any random shite from twitter seems to make it on here these days

United is pathetic at transfer dealings unfortunately. 85mln are crazy money for de Jong especially when Barcelona are desperate to sell. Not to mention Martinez transfer 50 mln. for defender playing in Eridivisie, ... shocking. Arnold has to go, I think he negotiate the player wages also, we burn money like no one else. Seems like lesson not learned and nothing has changed at Man Utd.
We can just hope ETH perform some kind of miracle with the team.
Oh, good God

Am I missing something here? If they want de Jong to leave so badly, why don't they just pay him what he is owed so he can get out of Dodge? It's not like £17m is a ridiculous amount of money and they have their economic levers?
Because they don't have the cash to pay the whole 17mil in one go this very moment. Even our payment for this transfer would be in installments and Barcelona need to use the upfront money to spread on other things (Raphinha, Lewandowski...). Else they look like a sinking ship by selling valuable players to just keep the squad intact.

Barcelona is at the stage where they go out to brief to posture themselves as good guys to their fans. Conditioning their fans to turn on FdJ if he refuses to move. The deferred wage holding up the 95% done transfer makes more sense, than the conflict rumor about FdJ unwillingness to join us.

Definition of anchoring. Only believing in statements that confirm your already established view.
Or just believing that there's no way we would have spend all this time negotiating a transfer without having talked to the player and confirmed he wanted to come?
You know, logic stuff.

As long as we are not yet successful on the pitch and still have to use our reputation and the lure of a project to get players, we would always be at a disadvantage at the negotiating table. Teams know we are desperate to turn around our fortunes on the pitch and can barely compromise on the quality of players we target for that purpose, unless there is a genuine alternative with the same quality available in the market.

Even the likes of Liverpool and City went through the same thing in their development phase where they had to pay premium fees for their targets. Liverpool faced that with the VVD and Allison transfers, they tried all they could to reduce the price for this players but eventually they caved in and bought the players for the price the selling clubs wanted all along. Same goes for City with the likes of Bernando, Mendy, Walker, Mahrez and co.

Fact is until we have some sort of major success on the pitch and the football world begins to believe we have a very good team, and can comfortably afford to work away from any potential deal as that player signing or not isn't going to significantly affect our season, we would always have to over pay a bit for our targets. We just have to hope ETH's project becomes successful.

So you think we've spent weeks of negotiating, with no contact beforehand with him or his agent, to gage if he's open to joining... Then sent Arnold and Murtough over to finally wrap it up/agree a fee, only for De Jong to then say "no thanks, I'm staying".

I don't. I'm just saying people in general like to hear things that confirms their point of view and vice versa.

Context: the reliable journalists were reporting that Eriksen would be officially a United player by the time we were in Australia. Shrager's Tweeting this as it seems like this signing might take a little bit longer.

Is it due to the thorough medical because of his heart or is it being implied there is another reason for the holdup?

Like to hear and only believe what supports their already established view are different things.
