Don't see what the downside would have been in us making that signing. Even if they want someone else long term having Osimhen for a season would have been a big improvement on our current options. Not a high wage for us either

Official: Victor Osimhen is loaned out to Galatasaray for this season with an option to sign a new contract with Napoli until 2027

SSC Napoli announces that it has given the registration rights of the player Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray on a temporary basis until 30 June 2025.

Concurrently, the club has reached an agreement with the player for an option to renew his contract until 30 June 2027.

An agreement has been reached with professional footballer Victor James Osimhen and his club SSCN Napoli SPA for the temporary transfer of the player for free.

The player will be paid a seasonal salary of 6,000,000 Euro net for the 2024-2025 season.

It is respectfully announced to the public.

So there's no loan fee for Osimhen, and it looks like either they're splitting the salary with Napoli or Osimhen has taken a pay cut.

Maybe a lawyer would know better but I'd be surprised you can decrease the wage of a loaned player. He's still under the same contract he has with Napoli (though he extended to modify the release clause, so maybe they restructured wages too ? Don't know why he would accept.). I think whatever money Galatasaray is giving them is, for all intents and purposes, paying Napoli for a share of those wages.

He could come in handy for us next summer with Maguire, Lindelof and Evans all most likely leaving.
We can try, but he prefers Bayern Munich over all other clubs at this stage. There's still time for other clubs to turn his head, though.

Supposedly got an extra 6 months to offer him something as well as they officially can't approach him until June and we can from Jan 1st. Obviously we all know that's not how it works in reality.
