Yep. Like you said, if Fofana comes in and quickly develops into one of the leading CBs in the league nobody will care how much he cost but then again that was the thinking behind the Kepa transfer as well.
"If he becomes one of the best GKs in the league for the next ten years, who cares if he cost a world record price for a keeper?" was a line I remember hearing many times back in the summer of 2018 and look how well that turned out.
Four years later Kepa is still impossible to sell and hasn't been of any use to the team in more than two years. Maybe with an outfield player it's a little different but the risk is still huge. As long as Fofana is not demanding absurd wages I'd probably still take the risk because there aren't many better options out there and our team desperately needs another CB signed but the risk shouldn't be understated.
