Going nowhere for under 50M

He's a left wingback that got 1 goal and 1 assist in the league in 35 league games. He's a talent, but they bought him for 18 million euros a year ago and thats not the record of a top wingback. So 50m seems far too much

Source:

  • Chelsea will pay 75% of Kepa's salary.
  • Chelsea want two conditional payments from Napoli worth €1.5m for Kepa.
  • Alex Meret has yet to sign the new 5-year contract that he and Napoli have agreed on.

Thanks to @Berbaclass and @Rolaholic in the Frenkie de Jong thread:

Bernardo Silva has been warned: his departure to Barcelona will not be easy or quick.

He is calm, confident and determined to wait until the last day (remember the Griezmann case).

Pep has already said that on 24/8 BS and ten more would play at Camp Nou...but the transfer market is still open.
Bernardo Silva, willing to wait for Barça until the end

He knows it will take a long time because De Jong has to leave, which is a slow-burning operation, but he will wait until the last day.

Summarised translations:

Real Madrid to decide in the next 12 days whether to sign Karim Benzema's understudy

Hazard not convincing as #9

Timo Werner, offered to Real Madrid, but there are doubts whether he would accept the role of understudy

The deal: 35 million transfer or loan with purchase option.

Are City really willing to let Bernardo go? He’s probably their second best player.

James as RCB?

Dumfries is being eyed as a backup for James at RWB, as stated by Simon Johnson of The Athletic and anyone with some good old common sense.

James can play RCB if there's an injury crisis at the back but no way he's going to play there on a regular basis. Tuchel isn't stupid so surely he realizes he loses most of what James can offer going forward if he's reduced to a RCB role.

If/when the club let Azpilicueta go, another RWB option will be much needed. Is Dumfries too good to be in a rotational role? I'm not sure because I don't know him that well. Doesn't look like he's a nailed on starter at Inter either.

James as RCB?
Fofana at RCB. Dumfries as James‘ roatation option.

Spending huge money for Dumfries who won’t even start if James is fit is weird, though.

80 million for Fofana.
Leicester are not giving any discounts when it comes to their CB's.

I don’t actually think that’s a totally crazy valuation for Fofana. I’d say £60-65m is a fair fee but up to £80m isn’t too crazy to me. You’re paying for potential as well as current ability.

Fofana is going to be one of the best CB’s in the world if he continues to develop. He really jumped off the screen when we played Leicester towards the end of last season. Was totally dominant and that was after coming back from his freak leg break.

One of the few good things to take away from this start of Todd's tenure at the head of the club is that he hasn't made any panic buys.
Despite many negotiations ending badly and the manager publicly putting pressure on the club.

Fofana is a player with great potential but comes from a year out and a very serious injury, this affects the value.
50/55 plus one or two surplus players Tuchel doesn't count on seems to me an excellent deal for all parties.

Dumfries looks like who will replace Azpi in the squad.

Fofana was rated higher than Saliba and would be an amazing signing for Chelsea. If he can put his injury behind him you've got a very good CB for 10 years. Dumfries is nice cover too if the price isn't ridiculous.
