Why do so many players leave Juventus on a free?
Several years back, they brought a bunch of players in as free agents or on low transfer fees, and in doing so, they gave them huge salaries and signing-on fees. Those high wages are now biting them in the backside, which is why players like Dybala and Bernardeschi are leaving the club.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Like us I guess

Official: Charlie Savage signs a new long-term contract with Manchester United (until June 2025 with an additional year option) after his first pro contract.

Also, D'Mani Mellor has left the club.

This has to be fake news. The only article I can find that's authored by both Hirst and Ballús is an article about Jack Grealish. There's no mention of Pogba in that article. I also couldn't find any other article authored by both Hirst and Ballús. If you can find a snippet from a newspaper article that refers to this, then go ahead, but I can't find anything at all.

@Damien We might have to consider blacklisting this aggregator.

Fair enough, but that begs the question why couldn't we get Trippier in? At a time when we had CL football to offer too.

He’d join us over any club with or without Champions league. United are the club he grew up supporting and he’s from Bury, was desperate to go home, but AM priced him out of any move.

Yeah it's one season where he's playing out of his skin. It could well be a purple patch.

You say that as if he's a 28 or 29 year old who's suddenly hit a rich vein of form out of nowhere.

The guy is 22, it's obvious he's just been developing over the last couple of seasons and finally now coming in to his own.

Look at the records of most of the top centre-forwards of the last decade or so and rarely do you see them scoring 20+ goals a season before the age Nunez is now.

Dybala's physical performances are plummeting in recent years and Bernardeschi has been a massive disappointment (Juve fans can't stand him), they are right in letting them go.

That may be and I'm not arguing that point. He could well be a Harry Kane type and this is his breakout season. However, he's over performing his xg by a ridiculous amount so this season is very likely to be an aberration on that front and there will be a regression. That's why I'm saying it could be a purple patch.

The way this is reported seems weird. The article itself stated that City were willing to meet Pogba's wage demands but Pogba himself didn't want to join City regardless. There's no mention of Pogba accepting the terms in the article itself. We've read about other players rejecting to play for rival clubs out of respect for the fans, but none of those reports would ever mention that the player agreed to the terms.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hirst and Ballús decided to add that headline just to make City look good.

Interesting signing. He's definitely a cheap Witsel replacement, but whether he'll be good enough remains to be seen.

Agreed.

I honestly can't see Pogba being that loyal to us right now. The reports circling are that there aren't many options with a good wage, relatively speaking, on the table for him.

"in fairness to Ole he bought a player and realised he was shit a year late"
Clubs should put a clause in managers contracts that states any player bought under their watch that doesn’t live up to the hype should have part of the transfer fee deducted from their payout if the manager is sacked.

United should be well aware if Pogba wants to suddenly stay at United its 100% due to money.

Summary:

  • Sixth Street is an American investment firm. Legends is a sports event management & hospitality company that's partly owned by Sixth Street.
  • Sixth Street will get a 30% stake in the Bernabeu. They will get a share of all of the stadium profits (i.e. not revenue; the profits will also exclude season-ticket sales).
  • The partnership will last for 20 years.
  • Real Madrid's stadium debt is almost $1b.
    • This debt's yearly servicing costs total up to $40m.
  • This investment will pay off Real Madrid's short-term debt and leave them with $260m (~€245m) to spend this summer.
    • No restrictions on how this money can be spent, so they can use this to pay for new players.

This is quite stupid, selling him and getting Timber or Dest. Couldn't think of a worse start than this. That's hardly any upgrade, and AWB can actually come good later. I'd much rather we get Djed Spence instead of Timber.
Do you have any other squad overhaul ideas so I can take the opposite position and be right?

Wan Bissaka would be great for a club in that tier below the big boys where he won’t be required to be so competent in the attacking third. Somewhere like Newcastle or Leicester.

Wan Bissaka wouldn't get into Newcastle or Leicester's teams. Leicester's full backs are massively attacking and Tierney's a far superior player. Even Semedo offers more than him. Brighton wouldn't want him. Palace is about as good as he could hope for.

Dybala's physical performances are plummeting in recent years and Bernardeschi has been a massive disappointment (Juve fans can't stand him), they are right in letting them go.
Correct, they haven't lived up to their massive expectations. If they didn't have such high wages, then they might be able to move on more easily, but as it stands, Juve won't be able to salvage any value from both of those players.

Just think about that for a minute

Ole would need to pay the club about 20m then for wasting £200m on Maguire, AWB and Sancho. Not necessarily because I think Sancho’s poor, but because he spent two summers chasing him and then seemingly not knowing what kind of player he was or which side of the pitch to use him on.

I’m fairly certain he will be one of the main beneficiaries from EtH arriving, but Ole chasing him and not knowing what he was getting was bonkers.
