Would be a great buy for them. Has his flaws though. Wonder what all the Chelsea fans downplaying Varane will say about him

Literally have no idea what he's like as i've never watched him with any intent, i suspect most fans won't be knowledgeable enough to give a decent opinion either. I'd say we just have to trust the board.

What a strange coincidence that they open talks as soon as we agreed a fee and personal terms with Varane. Maybe they were more interested than they were letting on?

Or there is a finite amount of time in a window between a major tournament and the season starting and all sorts of deals will be overlapping.

From what i hear Varane only ever wanted Utd so if we were in for him we'd have known early doors he wasn't coming

This fecking idiot thinks he's the transfer Messiah.
Maybe if they'd stop blatantly lying about every god damn thing he wouldn't receive the abuse he gets.

This is the exact sort of shit that Sam Lee's talking about.

Justifying the abuse he gets because apparently "he's lying" (which is ironic, considering he'd have much more reliable info to the situation, that you, the fan, considering it's his job) because it's not what you wanted to hear.

It's pathetic.

Bit weird to calling Sam Lee of all people a fecking idiot and say he's blatantly lying all the time? Consistently good source of info on City, has been for years.

From what I’ve heard he is a quick, agile and aggressive pressing type of CB that is progressive in both passing, positioning and carries . Is also versatile in that he can play RB . His major flaw is supposedly his physicality against stronger players that can outmuscle him, and that he is somewhat short for a CB.

The feck do Arsenal need a striker for? Don't they have Aubameyang and Lacazette?
Lacazette in his last year, Auba going on a bit and only kids behind them. No harm in asking but there's no chance we land him...

Just thought i'd check his defensive stats against Varane as per posters comment above...

Varane v Kounde

Kounde comes out massively on top and is a lot younger, however he comes up short against Rudiger and Christensen in several areas which surprises me even more.

Poor Sam. Don’t get me wrong, people abusing journalists over transfers are pathetic, but he shares that information to increase followers and his profile. He’s not doing a public service.

He shares information because he is a professional journalist.

I find Sam Lee really annoying. Absolutely loves City as well despite apparently being a Utd fan.

Good thread, especially the below part

this why aggregators shouldn't be allowed

Yep, that is why I had the policy in the OP that aggregators not be allowed unless they have the context/link in same tweet, which none of them ever do. Literally the only one I've seen include links is the caf account, and that tweets sporadically as the person who usually runs it is unpaid.

I've tried explaining the context thing before when people post the aggregators but got a bit of pushback for it so the quality of the tweets in the thread has gone downhill massively as it isn't strictly moderated as it used to be due to people wanting the type of tweets that Lee bemoans posted.

Aubameyang has been on the decline lately and they've been trying to get rid of Lacazette for a while now

I think they’re both perfectly adequate and Aubameyang still has a few good years in him.

Arsenal’s problem is a desperate lack of chance creation, which partly started with Emery trying to plug in their softness and overcompensating for it by being toothless in attack and subsequently lego man having to deal with a cluster feck of a squad, especially in midfield.

Even further, both their strikers are on high salaries, so they’d much rather spend elsewhere than add another striker whose confidence they’ll destroy with lack of service.

Bless.

If I had to follow Man City for a living, i'd have gone mad too. Actually believing there's people who care what Man City do. Most likely just messaging himself in his sleep and then replying to it in the morning.

From what I have read, Kounde will take over Azpi's role on the team, slowly. If you are looking as to where Kounde will fit in the team, it is most likely Azpi competing with Kounde for minutes.

What a shame...

It's probably got more to do with him being injured all the time and doing over head kicks in his own box than anything else.

He should be more concerned with his constant injuries and his crazy antics severely limiting his first team opportunities.

Aggregators should only be allowed when the news is behind a paywall like Athletic is most of the time. Rest only direct tweets from journalists.

The reluctance to cash in on a player who is a) not good enough b) not consistently fit enough and c) not high in the pecking order seems to indicate that he'll have to hand in a transfer request and sell himself on behalf of the club. Another tap-in that we're refusing to get over the line (Jesse being the other).

Kounde seems like a tidy little player tbh, but having said that the defensive per 90 numbers can be slightly misleading (depends on what you’re using those numbers for). You also have to factor in how much possession the team keeps on average and the volume of attacking plays they face in their own 3rd as a result.

Kounde’s per 90 numbers from last season would i think even be better than Ruben Dias’ and Van Dijk’s (from his league winning season).

Well, stats depend alot on the playstyle, team, League and CB pairing.

From what I’ve seen Varane usually acts almost like a sweeper , protecting the space when Ramos goes into duels and is the aggressive one . Even with his physicality he likes more to cut off lanes/room on the pitch or anticipating passes I think . So his numbers might be skewed by that and also that RM usually have lot of possession so the numbers duels/defensive actions isnt as high as in a «lesser side».

Kounde is more like Ramos in the way that he likes to be aggressive and go into many duels. Think he is very good for his age and have more potential to improve than Varane does obviously.

Yes of course, I agree you have to take stats with a degree of skepticism unless you have the full narrative but i was pleasantly surprised

Camavinga
Rice
Saul

Camavinga has gone quiet. We could make a deal for Rice if West Ham would take Jesse but I think we'll leave Rice for next season if it's going to be a big money transfer.

Another thing to consider on these transfer tweets about Kounde is Chelsea has been talking to several clubs about player plus money swaps to trim down the squad and still bring in new players. This has been discussed with several clubs.
