I’ve been advocating that we should keep Pogba but if he genuinely doesn’t want to sign a new deal then he can go do one. The fact he wants to spend his peak years playing for PSG in the French league astounds me.

Pogba out and Saul in would do for me. We’d be up around €15m as well if prices are to be believed.

The Goretzka rumours are most likely fake. We can't approach a player unless he has 6 months left, Bayern wouldn't have given us permission to approach him early if they were still trying to negotiate a contract.

Nobody seems to care anymore. Informal talks with agents seems to be going on all the time.

Is he really that good? In the Rice thread, quite a few have mentioned him as being better and cheaper.

Looked great before his big injury, since then hasn't quite performed at the same level from what I understand.

If we're after two players for CM on a reasonable budget, I think him & a Neves / Koopmeiners / Tchouameni type would work well and not cost the earth.

Definitely a bit of a punt though.

How do they get good prices for their players that barely play
They seem to get generous sums but they actually sell at the right times too. They’re very good at that. In contrast, clubs like us and maybe Arsenal, hold on to our young players for too long.

For instance, Tuanzebe could’ve easily fetched £15-20m if we sold him the season Villa got promoted with him. A similar figure could’ve been achieved for Williams after he had his half a season of consistent first team football. Dan James is still worth at least what we bought him for. Etc etc. We tend to hold onto players which depreciates their value.

This is true. We hang on to players for too long. Just look at Lingard and Andreas. Starting for us today in friendly when they should have been shipped out 2-3 season back. We will do the same thing with James and Tuanzebe untill their stock is all time low. And with Jones, we will give him another contract probably

and then wed be complaining about them being dead wood in the squad for the next manager to clear out.

Along with the likes of Ibe, Brewster, Solanke, Hoever, they seem to make a good judgement call on whether to put players on first team wages or sell them for a price that reflects their potential. We stick them on first team wages and then struggle to sell them for a decent price when they end up being squad filler.

Who fecking cares how much the scousers got for Harry Wilson? It's hardly going to tip the scales.

Literally a story from today
Melissa Reddy] Liverpool are actively looking to recruit in midfield and attack. One of Liverpool’s big issues has been shifting fringe players, not just in a monetary sense but in freeing up non-homegrown squad spaces and assessing how to get that balance right per rules for a 25-man roster.

The grass isnt always greener

Honestly. It’s not like they got 40m for him either. 12m for a player that’s had 3 decent seasons.

They are just ruthless/professional. They are not soft towards academy players like we are.
We stick with them until they prove that they are really not good enough. They (in some way) take a risk and sell them before there is a clear picture how good/ bad young player is.

Yeah he's a decent player, it's a fair price. It's the same with Grujic, he was part of a Porto side that knocked out Juve from the CL, and they still only got about 10m for him.

Yeah and how's their successful academy players record compared to ours though? It also makes us a far more attractive academy, hence why we are currently stealing one of their players and able to convince very talented Europeans over.

But they do a better job than we do. I wasn't comparing. I was just agreeing with the fact that we hang on to players that we should have moved on long back

When you mention that; what are the registration rules for this season regarding 25-man squad? Can't find it anywhere.

If Rice were to go elsewhere and tear it up, this place would be upset beyond belief.

I think because Rice is English he gets a rougher time, if Rice were Spanish, German or French he’d be a lot more attractive to fans.

We don’t tend to rate our own that highly to be honest, people still don’t rate Kane that highly when he’s clearly world class
Bit disingenuous to say that Rice gets a tougher time because he's English. People want Sancho and would readily accept Bellingham in the team.

Possibly. No transfer is a guaranteed success.

I think those three names would do well, but then I know naff all really. We need more than on addition to midfield, which I assume means we'll be shopping on somewhat of a budget, which means we'll be looking at this bracket of 'Potential in my opinion.
