I think a lot of signs are pointing to us selling Pogba and signing Rice.

Yet there's reports of him signing new contract.

Why does a big name player have to leave if we sign another big name player?

anyone feel he's taking his 'fame' a little too seriously now?

You can't knock him really. People on twitter seem to love him and if he can make a living from his twitter 'fame', good on him. It's rare to see someone focussing near enough exclusively on transfers and be relevant so he's clearly doing something right.

Reports have said Mbappe only wants to play from wide for whatever club he joins. He doesn't see himself as a striker and he hasn't the skillset anyway imo.
Fair enough. Then Rashford

Why does a big name player have to leave if we sign another big name player?
Because his contract has 12 months to run and there is nothing close to suggesting a new deal will be signed.
Because we don't have a bottomless pit of cash unlike some clubs.
Because he probably wouldn't be a guaranteed pick if we signed another midfielder.
Because the player himself might not want to stay at the club.

I mean there are countless reasons really.

Is there? I’ve seen reports saying we’re trying to get him to sign, but I’ve read nothing to say he will or wants to sign. Happy to be wrong though.

In talks with Manchester United, France and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane could continue his career in England. Nothing has been signed yet, but the positions of the two sides have moved closer in recent hours.

I mean you will always find a reason to argue and pick a fight, its all you seem to do on here.

erm, no

Just simply pointing things out, this forum the fans against Pogba vastly outweigh those who are fans of him.

How is that picking a fight or arguing? I see more posts trashing Pogba than I do for praising him

I want this to happen badly. He would fit in perfectly.

Neither of those suggest any deal is close to being signed.
  • Manchester United are reportedly still in talks with Paul Pogba over new deal
  • The France star is in final year of contract and United want to avoid losing him
  • United want to keep him at the club and talks over improved deal are ongoing
Happy to be explained differently but you don't negotiate with a club for an improved contract that you don't want to stay with. I have never known a report to come out that says "I will sign a new contract" the news just comes out. It would vastly discredit your negotiation position if you were to publicly say that.

Never understood this logic, why would we be replacing Pogba with a DM?

Sancho maybe ?
I think the idea is we want Rice to replace one of Fred/McTominay but we can’t afford him without Pogba going. A proper Pogba replacement would come later, or be Donny if he comes good.

Christmas has come early

As I said, neither of the links you gave suggest any deal is close to being signed. Neither of them were from the regular United journalists either.

I have no doubt United are speaking to him about a new contract, that doesn't mean Pogba necessarily wants to stay - it would be a crazy move for him to refuse to speak about a new deal even if he did want to leave.

Because we need a DM, and we're having to force Pogba into the team on the left wing as he can't play in a 2, and that's how Ole wants us to play. Risky to play him and Bruno in a 3 as well, I'd love him to stay but it does make a lot of sense to cash in on him while we can, and get a DM instead as that would suit our setup better.

We'd be replacing a player who doesn't really fit in our current team with a player who does. I think Pogba's quality but he ended the season having to play on the left, it's getting harder and harder to accomodate him. While Solskjaer's manager, and it looks like he will be for the foreseeable future, I don't think Pogba fits the mould of CM we want. Someone like Rice theoretically slots in seamlessly, even if I do think he's gonna be massively overpriced.

Apparently Woodward started clearing his office and in the back of a filing cabinet he found a massive warchest

This doesn't feel like posturing for a new contract anymore does it? Starting to feel like it's actually possible he joins.

Just Varane and Sancho would make this the best summer window for ages in my opinion. If we add a midfielder too then it's Title challenge time all the way. There can be no excuses.
Did you feel the same in Summer of 2014?

I'm not here for about 15 hours and we went from "SanchON" to "Sancho, here we go" and "Raphael VarONe". What a time to be alive

Sancho and Varane feck me that would be immense. Amazing if United pull it off. Great parting gift from Woody boy

But that had absolutely nothing to do with the original point.

Why does a big name player have to leave to but a big name player?
"Because there is an agenda on here against Pogba."
It doesn't even make sense.

We can't afford to just go and buy another big player at CM without selling players, considering Pogba is at risk of leaving on a free next year it's hardly surprising people view a potential sale of him this year as a way to ensure we don't lose out and can get someone else in.

But Pogba is not a DM, it wouldn't make sense to get rid of an attacking player to sign a defensive one. So why mention Pogba? If we got Rice and sold Pogba we'd have to buy another attacking midfielder.

It’s amazing, if you said a few months back that we should be signing Sancho and Varane it would be met with comments like “pipe dream” “I’ll have what your smoking” etc. Fast forward and now it looks it it could be a reality!

They are both CMs. Pogba looks like he isn't going to sign and we need a balanced midfield which Pogba doesnt offer(that's beside the point). We know with the money we get for Pogba we could afford pretty much any CM we need. With Sancho coming in adding creativity we need Pogbas creativity even less. We need a defensive CM more than attacking one when Pogba leaves

Not sure how you came to the conclusion that it was because people have an agenda and like I said it didn't even make sense.

Sancho perhaps but not Varane. Was convinced we would sign Pau Torres which for me is very underwhelming and Varane would renew at Madrid. Now it’s highly likely the other way round
