Yes that's what it is a nice piece of fiction undoubtedly would be lapped up by disgruntled fans of United while ignoring everything these very same journalists were spouting during the window.
Timing also seem to be just about perfect they had such detailed information about this whole transfer but were waiting for transfer window to close while contradicting everything they said earlier.
Great work no wonder journalistic credibility seems to be at all time low.

Yea total fiction. It's very difficult to remember Dortmund posting a clear deadline which United chose to ignore as they thought they knew better.

From the moment that deadline passed Dortmund maintained that he was not for sale at any price, but I don't remember that being proven a lie

"Sancho feels undervalued by the approach", Sancho can go and fek off, you can't make all sides happy in these blockbuster moves. The fact he wasn't willing to put any pressure on BVB and now this, i feel like he wasn't too stoked about the move and that he sees himself somewhere else.

Don't blame him, we are done. Come for money or go elsewhere for slightly less money and win trophies.

Can't help but Bayern, PSG made some totally weird decisions. Barca didn't sign anyone and still have debt close to €900m now. United and City hardly improved. Juve and Real are the same teams which failed in CL last season. Guess this can only make football more competitive.

Juve will probably fail again in the CL but they really made a clearance (apart of Khedira, the utmost freerider...) while adding fresh legs and youth.

If he feels undervalued during these unprecedented times then we should move on because there's alternatives we could/should target IMO.

You have conveniently ignored how these same journalists were saying different things all together earlier and just as the window has closed they have such detailed account of how things panned out completely ignoring their own previous reports and if they had so much information why the hell they were reporting completely different things earlier and they are now just feeding the negativity because it's open season on United.

In that case i don't want him in here if he's only coming for the money.

In the long run, us not paying €120m for Sancho during the pandemic can be beneficial for us. If we had paid what they were asking, come 2021 we would be quoted €10m for a pack of smokes, "You paid €120m for Sancho during the crisis, surely you can do better not that the crisis is over".

We had a whole fecking window to identify alternative targets and get them, and we did feck all. Wake up.

According to the article Dortmund argue that he was available for 120 (rather than the bigger fee they sold Dembele for) because of the Covid.

And plenty of other players have been on the move Covid or no Covid, I think it's pretty understandable if Sancho feels messed around by United. Unlike Bruno we might not be able to dick around most of the next window aswell and still get him.

We did identify alternatives, United proudly briefed about that fact all preseason - but we didn't manage to sign any of those either.

Absolutely agree with that. If he's after the money and a spot on the pedestal as one of the most expensive transfers, than good riddance we didn't succumb to BVB's demands.

“Undervalued”

How arrogant!

Then again, I guess you need some sort of arrogance to become the world’s best. E.g. Messi/Ronaldo

But even they didn’t give too much of a feck about their Transfer value, Ronaldo anyway.

Basically went for the same price as he did to Juve than he did for us all those years ago and you could argue he was worth a lot more than £80M when he left for Juve

Maybe he wanted the feel good factor of being the £100M man & we don’t want those types of players here at United

Saying no to Sancho/Dortmund is ABSOLUTELY fine. Its understandable even, the price is very high.

But we had a whole month at the minimum to identify an alternative RW and get him. We didnt do that. We left a gaping hole in the team, and it will come back to bite Solskjaer, and thats all on Woodward.

Its like when we had to replace Ronaldo, and got Obertan and Tosic instead. Disgusting.

I can't imagine that's true, but I would steer well clear of him if that is.

How arrogant of Man Utd thinking they were going to pay what they wanted and ignored the terms set out by Dortmund.

exactly. load of horse shit. i thought the athletic was meant to the best of the best, just more usual rubbish it seems. the idea that sancho would feel undervalued by us when literally no other team entertained their ridiculous valuation is clearly the workings of a journalist with a deadline to meet.

You guys need to wake up because I didn't expect us to challenge for the league even with Sancho. Maybe the club didn't think there was good enough alternatives hence they bought young Diallo who they probably believe will become good enough rather than spend money on a average RWF to appease the fickle.

there is negotiation in all business exchanges, particularly at this level. the fact Dortmund weren't willing to budge at all reflects more on the fact they didn't really want or care about selling.

I don't think Atlético are so surprised.
They had all summer to make a good renewal offer ,and those low clauses are an invitation for someone to pay.
Seeing how short of money are the teams in la liga, it seems like a good deal for them.

Okay so there's not a single RW in the world we can buy for a decent fee. Alrighty then.

And also we bought Diallo, and it was the plan all along, thats why we bought him on deadline day, and couldnt even get his WP done on time.

And aha, yes, we only need a first choice RW to appease the fickle, not as if there is a huge fecking hole in our squad.

Also love the lowering of expecations to the point that after finishing 3rd, we are not expected to challenge but the target is top 4 for the next season. Wonderful.

They've bought Diallo as the alternative IMO and I believe the club has gone the 'young exceptional talent' route, even if he is unproven. If he had signed Douglas Costa people would've moaned, perisic the same, Dembele the same, Bale the same, Ocampos the same. The club can't win.

Absolute bs in this instance, they don't need to sell, his contract is another few years. They set a price and we either pay or leave.

Ronaldo was £80m take it or leave it, not £79m or £77m plus add ons. When contracts are almost up maybe but when this player is in high demand there is no much negotiation. If the price was dropped £20m or what stops the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid rekindling interest?

Very detailed story. Not pretty from a United perspective

Overall package too expensive.

Couldnt agree more. What's not pretty about that from a united perspective? Liverpool would like Sancho but they didnt buy him for the exact same reason. At least we tried.

Why would he feel “undervalued” by the only club that’s shown serious interest in him the last 18 months but is now thinking of going elsewhere to a club that hasn’t even bothered with him during the same time frame? Doesn’t add up.

Its mostly made up bs me thinks.

Other clubs have shown serious interest though and have sounded him out for next summer. We've messed up, there's no doubt about it, Liverpool were even in talks with him but found the agent fee too much, so there's serious interest from them.

Real will likely get rid of Bale finally and have the money to sign him, although I think their primary target will be Mbappe.

The alternative to a world class right winger who was meant to take us to a new level was an 18 year old kid who won't even arrive this window?

I think it's good to sign promising young players for the future, but I'm not sure that should replace signing players who are meant to improve us straight away

We don't want a decent RWF because there's plenty decent ones littered across Europe. We want a exceptional player for the role and if you can't get a established one who is exceptional then going down the route we've gone down with young Diallo is the way to go IMO. It's not only about this season but also about the coming seasons which need to be planned/prepared for.

We will challenge for the league IMO alot sooner than many think. We have a hole in our squad that needs filling at CB and DM. Buying players with the correct attributes for the aforementioned roles will get us closer to challenging for the title.

If only the professionals could see this.

i agree, they didn't want or care about selling because they didn't need to. they will ask for the same amount next summer and will (probably) get it, assuming he continues to perform.

Because United allowed this whole thing to drag on while we gave him the impression that we were still going to sign him. It's happened many times before where a player feels they have been messed around by a club and it's understandable.

If you call our "interest" and approach serious, then you don't know what serious means

True I think CB and DM were always more important which is why the decision to hand Matic a three year deal was baffling. With Rashford, Martial and Bruno we already have enough goal threat in forward areas which means that the teenagers we have can rotate in and out plus Mata is still a viable option in certain games.

For me the priority should have been a DM who is good on and off the ball and also quick across the ground who would provide us with the solidity to play Pogba as the Box to Box CM in a 4-2-3-1. A physically imposing CB would have helped too.

I am not too fussed with missing out on Sancho because I think Greenwood and/or Diallo could be at the level he is right now in 12 to 24 months. What is galling is that not only have we missed out on him but we haven't done anything to address the central defensive issues we have in midfield and at the heart of defense.

Paying 20 + 20 millions for a player with 30 minutes of adult football under his belt surely undermines all of the supposed “positives” of this approach?

€20m is a but pricey for a young talent, but regarding the other €20m if those bonus clauses get activated I'm sure we would all agree it was worth it.

If you call our "interest" and approach serious, then you don't know what serious means

Well it clearly was serious as we made a bid(eventually) and were the only club to do so. Now I’m not saying we’ve handled it well, it’s been an absolute shit show there’s no doubt about it but we have been the only club showing real interest at this point. I expect that to change next summer though.

The fact that some people fins this in any way hard to grasp is beyond me
