He was never worth the price Barca paid in the first place. That was a hugely inflated fee. Off the back of his record the last 3 years and the fact he only has 2 years on his contract 60m is a mental price. They’re in cuckoo land. Not even we’re crazy enough to pay it.
Depay is on the last year of his contract and way less talented too.

The alternatives are all one-season loans, not permanent transfers (unless Dembele develops into a permanent transfer, which I doubt). That in itself is indicative of who Ole wanted for the right wing. We didn't even get strongly linked with other right wingers from the rest of Europe.

I wouldn't call them panic signings. We've monitored and scouted both players for a while. We only acted on Pellistri after Lyon were getting close to signing him. We were working on Traore (not just monitoring) for several months and only finished up our work once the Parma loan deal collapsed.

If we get him on a loan with a hefty fee and a reasonable buy option (not an obligation) at the end, I'd be happy with it. It's a small punt and we keep our door open.
