It’s the same Barcelona that have signed the likes of Paulinho, Mina, Braithwaite.

Personally I’d like to take a gamble on Bale but I just don’t see Ole bringing him into the fold. Even if he’s been badly handled by Madrid I’m sure Ole doesn’t want a player who’s potentially going to be caught laughing on camera if things aren’t going our way.

Probably right concerning Ole's stated preference in recruitment (i.e. wants to be on the team, etc), but if the price is right, I could see Ole taking a punt. Did SAF ever take a similar gamble? I wouldn't want to pay any more than 200-250k/week of his salary, although I'd start the bidding at 150k. RM is over a barrel of their own making so might as well stick it to them, hard. We'd don't 'need' him while RM needs to get him out of there.

Rodrigo de Paul himself confirms that he's willing to move to Leeds United.

EDIT: De Paul deleted his Tweet...

Haven't we been trying to get somebody to take those three off our hands for a couple years? What makes anybody think we can off load them by October 5th.

Smalling is gone tomorrow if we accept Roma's garbage €13m bid.

Is there anyone else interested in Mike's services ?

According to most of the caf, we should be as he’s better than Maguire.. at least that was the belief when he wasn’t at the club last year...

We're never going to get rid of any of the deadwood are we?

Nope.

You know how at the end of the day supermarkets cut the prices on meat they wanna get shot off before it goes off? We are doing the opposite. Asking premium prices for knackered goods and selling sweet FA as a result.

Our transfer team really need to get a grip of this situation and quick.

Last season is proof that doing business in October might already be too late.

Hopefully Inter come in for Smalling

Just when you think one deadwood is leaving it goes pear shaped.

We are certainly the best club in the world at making transfer windows miserable.

We won’t pay up for top players because we want to pay less and we won’t accept bids for our crap players because we want to receive more. Strategy that allows mediocrity to be sustained.

People need to remember that Smalling offers the team something that the Roma defence doesn't have, aerial prowess and the strength to deal with physical attacking players. Whilst a player like Kumbulla would improve their side, he doesn't offer anything new to the defence; he'd be a better version of Gianluca Mancini. Smalling, however, would be a direct replacement for Fazio, who will be leaving Roma. Regardless of the Kumbulla transfer, I wouldn't be surprised if Roma continues their chase for Smalling.

Keep seeing this a lot but if there are no other takers for Smalling surely he’s only worth that? It’s better to just get rid at this stage. We don’t want him. Just move on and stop haggling over a couple of million.

Sometimes clubs settle for a lesser target. He might not do everything Smalling does but for Roma what he does might be enough. Last summer plenty of people were saying we should have signed Koulibaly. We ended up going for Maguire. Lots of people would say we settled for the lesser player. Regardless of your personal opinion sometimes clubs do that because their budget doesn't stretch far enough. Or they don't think the additional plusses are worth paying more for. If Roma signs a centre back that's the Smalling interest done.

Memphis to Barcelona is done apparently.

This Cooper stuff about signing two players makes no sense at all,not heard it from Ducker who is a Utd mouthpiece

Exactly. If you wanna sell your old sofa on eBay and nobody is willing to match your valuation who does it hurt to hold onto it? Potential buyers can find cheaper alternatives. Whereas you are just left with something you don't want.

We have been down this road too many times e.g. For all our stubborness over Darmian we ended up selling him for three times less than the bids we rejected from Milan and Juve.

Weird signing, he isn't better than what they currently have in attack and it's in defensive positions that they need sorting far more than their attack.

Getting Kumbulla will make their position stronger for sure, but I'm not sure if Roma would be okay with losing Fazio and having no replacement for him. Kumbulla is no different to Gianluca Mancini in terms of playing style; he's merely a better version of him. Without Fazio/Smalling, they won't have anyone who can adequately defend crosses into the box, and they won't have a defender who can cover for Mancini/Kumbulla going in to win the ball quickly.

In our situation, yeah, we may have gotten a worse player in Maguire (on paper at the time), but stylistically, they aren't any different; we got a player in who had both aerial prowess and the ability to bring the ball up the pitch. That ability on the ball was exactly what we were missing from Smalling and why we replaced him with Maguire.
