I have no idea about the player but thats way too much for a championship player.

We can buy the players they are buying which would take us backwards. Improving a squad of our considerable talents requires much bigger spending.

I would argue improving a squad which is lacking considerable talent outside of the starting 11 shouldn't require massive spending.
Similarly, signing Upamencano before his clause expired, similarly to other players that have been available. Someone like Marco Rocca as DM for instance.
Of course, though we are spending the summer chasing a massive record signing....

If that's true, it suggests that we would only sign him if we failed with Sancho ie: spend some of that budget. Doesn't sound like we can afford both.
