Messi doesn't win his teams a CL anymore. The times where you, at the very top level, could get away with a player who doesn't work for his team are over.
Barca haven't won it in the last five years because they haven't been good enough. Put Messi in that City team and they are instant favourites for next season.

Totally agree. That's why I don't think on the the pitch this will be the game over transfer many seem to think it. City are already easy to play through, with Messi that will be even more pronounced. I think it will cost them at the sharp end of top level football. You can argue that Guardiola's style already causes that problem anyway.

Totally agree. Against the top clubs in Europe and PL City will struggle if only 10 man track back. Messi will score goals for fun against weaker opposition tough.

How I wish Ed pulls up his pants and get some business done so we have the squad to smash the hell out of them.
Can't stand them - Pep, Messi, Navas, D Alves, Neymar, D Silva, Di Maria, Busquets, J Alba.
Something about these players that just makes me angry.

Can't stand them little tiny latinos and spaniards alike - Pep, Messi, Navas, D Alves, Neymar, D Silva, Di Maria, Busquets, J Alba.

That feeling is universal

I think there's a word for that feeling.

Messi not even considering Utd shows how far we have fallen. We are light years behind City now never mind if they get Messi. Liverpool have our Sir Alex to enable to compete. Chelsea have funds and a good infrastructure. We are fecked until we can get this mess sorted out.

Of course he’s not considering us - miles behind City who also have Pep and his good friend Aguero.

Was never coming here.

Why would he consider us and at the same time why would we consider him. It's not a great match in the moment of our club. Need some realism.

Nothing will be sorted as long as Glazers are there to suck us dry.

The humungous gulf of prestige, class, fear, and global appeal between United and the rest of all English clubs at the turn of the century has slowly faded away into almost nothing.

City's entire structure was built with the goal of repliating barca's prime so they could get Pep in and then potentially Messi if he ever left Barca. Like all of city's planning it's paid off. Because they have owners whilst corrupt and vile human beings, want the club to succeed as a footballing super power. We don't have that. We won't even pay up for Sancho, so there's no way we'd ever sign messi who's contract and other fees will likely add up to the 500million mark.

Seems cheap

Very good deal, Wolves got him for next to nothing and they have got great service from him so might be the reason for the relatively cheap price. Bohs get 10% from the deal apparently which could be massive for them.

We can't even afford Sancho, never mind Messi.

Pep is at City. Why would he go anywhere else?

It's the Daily Fail fellas, I very much doubt they have a clue on the legitmacy of Tottenhams interest never mind his price.
It s on other papers too.... independent, telegraph, standard etc

To be fair, the Mail could have gotten a quick word or brief from a United official that we aren't interested in Badiashile and that's official as it gets

These papers always know who we are not going for but never who we are going for.

Yeah, and it's much easier to confirm that we aren't in for someone, when we feel our name is being used.
Actually confirming we are in for someone would be showing our hand, making negotiations harder. "Well you told the papers you want him, so pay up."

Whilst Cech is an element of making these transfers happen, I think the money is probably a bigger incentive for them to join!!
All three are on a massive wage increase from previous clubs, all three would see Chelsea as an upgrade, so doesn't really need much convincing,
Also, no one else really seemed to be in for any of the the players mentioned giving you a free run.

Of course the deals don't happen without money but for deals to go smoothly it shouldn't be underestimated that establishing a rapport with someone is a lot easier when they can be made comfortable in a direct conversation in their own language. People speaking a language they are not entirely comfortable in often sound harsh and abrasive without being aware of it.

Couldn't agree less with your last sentence, all players have had and would have had interest in them now or in the future and would be aware of it, it's not like they were obliged to move in this very window.

It just seems that every transfer United is involved in is a long and protracted saga. Then you have Chelsea who have signed go knows how many players without so much as a fuss from the selling clubs. I guarantee you that if we were in for Chilwell it would've gone on for ages.

Werner already stated he wanted to move abroad and turned down Bayern,
Ziyech stated also he wanted to move abroad and Ajax had his release clause taken out so they could make more.money from a sale,
No one else went in for either despite Werner having a release clause.
Chilwell at £50m is insane and for sure no one else was in for him at that price.

Chillwell has been going on for ages.
