Ed Aarons and Fabrizio Romano wrote an article with info based on the Tweet of this Mundo Deportivo journalist:

Article:

Tweet translation:
The people who run the numbers at Manchester City, led by Ferran Soriano, have made it known to Messi's entourage that the club is capable of financially conducting the operation, even if they were forced to pay a transfer. But they believe that he will arrive free.

Potentially a decent signing for Lazio: they are progressing on buying Mohamed Fares from relegated SPAL.

Monaco fans don't rate this guy, apparently good on the ball but extremely error prone. Quite a few of their fans said they'd sell for 15-20m no problem.

Well Ive only seen 1.5games of him so hardly in a position to give an expert opinion, but I get what they are saying. What I have watched he looks comfortable with the ball at his feet and playing it out from the back, looks talented, but in terms of him sorting out our defensive problems.......doesnt look ready to me. Have to remember the guy is still a teenager after all. He looks talented but his reading of the game especially and tracking movement looks like needs a lot more development and despite his size, he has been muscled off the ball a few times I watched him.....reading on what he needs to work on being pretty much Lindelofs problems and Lindelofs supposed strangth is playing the ball out......doesnt solve anything in the short term for me. If they are genuinely expectign Martial money we should definately look elsewhere

We like to act the big boy but we don’t have the money. Ed and Co like to make out we can compete with the richest clubs but imo we can’t afford Messi.

I personally would prefer to see him come to the prem over PSG or Inter. City or Chelsea are probably the only two that could afford him here.

I would also rather see Sancho come to us, but even that looks doubtful.

Klopp offers his perspective on this transfer market.

So that's Klopp saying the same thing as Overmars, Raiola, and countless others, including United.

Regardless of realism, this is a joke to even claim this. Its fecking Messi. Every top club who even has a potential sniff of it should try. Saying "we aren't in for him" isn't some smart team building idea. It's just dumb to not even try.
I mean the majority of the top teams including us realised that there is no way to added his wages in this current climate. So no that’s not dumb but just pragmatic.

Trying to inject some realism into here.

We've just finished 3rd in the Prem and got into 3 semi finals, no one is happy! All I see on here is jealousy of other clubs, Ole bashing, Ed bashing, Glazer bashing. There used to be some middle ground or some positivity around here. Yet now, there is nothing but constant moaning. Too many are too focused on the past and "How great" Man utd used to be.

Manchester United used to be great. Yes. They had all the great players and hardly any teams challenged us for the title. At one time it was just us and Arsenal. Now other teams around us have caught up to our spending power and some you may argue, like yourself (Chelsea) have overtaken us.

We need, as a club, to wake up and realise that we aren't the best anymore. We don't have the pulling power that we once had. Other teams can offer more money and at the moment more chances of silverware. But that does not mean that no one will ever come to United ever again, we're still a huge draw. Just now there is other options for players who come to the Prem. We aren't the only option anymore.

The one that never ceases to amaze me is that ANY bad press about United is believed. Anything at all. When there is some good press about United. People either refuse to believe it or think it's a "Press Briefing" by Ed.

We are NEVER happy anymore and it saddens me to see this once great football fanbase turn to utter shite. Granted it's due to a lack of silverware and challenging for the title and there are genuine reasons to be upset. But don't become bitter and act jealous when you see teams around us splashing the cash. It reeks of entitlement. Just because 'We're Man Utd' doesn't mean that anyone and everyone should come here. It's arrogant. Like I said there is choice now for players.

City
Chelsea
Liverpool
Arsenal
Tottenham
Heck even Wolves and Leicester are now viable teams for players to go too.

Before it was just us and Arsenal!

We need to get behind the manager and the club, we will get better and up challenging again, but it takes time! Liverpool took 30 years to get back challenging. We need to realise it may be us in that position and we need to not become what we all took the piss out of Liverpool fans for.

Focusing on our history.

Which from a lot of posters here, we seem to be doing and becoming, clinging on to the history that "We're the great Man Utd"

We all just need to relax and enjoy the ride, nothing ever worthwhile came easy.

Thanks guys!

Well said, but the majority on here are not that unreasonable. That’s reserved for a small lot of very noisy usual suspects. You’ll quickly tire of them and ignore their posts.

I'd like it to be known that I am not interested in Margot Robbie.

This statement is about as true as the one allegedly attributed to United regarding Messi

Veronica Brunati, who has some decent connections, posts her updates on both Messi and Aguero.

Summary:
  • City officials will be in Barcelona and get in touch with Messi's family.
  • PSG are preparing a huge offer for him [I doubt that he'd choose to go there].
  • Despite having 10 months left in his contract, Aguero wants to stay as long as City want to keep him.
