That's a great signing to replace Roofe.

I find it weird that we seem to be the only 'big 6' club that repeatedly and willingly sells players to direct rivals. Or within the Premier League as a whole, even. Wonder why the club are so happy to facilitate these moves and don't insist these players move abroad.

Sending Luiz to Arsenal has the potential to really boost them.

Players are real people, nobody can insist they do anything. Plus if you've decided a player is not good enough for you then why should you be worried about him joining a supposed rival.

Who have we sold to a rival that has gone and improved them?

It's next years transfer window we need to worry ab

If you haven't moaned all summer you most certainly have today. I think the most pressing areas have been identified and targets acquired. A weak defence will lose you games, simple as that. That has now, on paper been rectified.

Losing a recognised goalscorer who could hardly hit a barn door last season is hardly the biggest loss in the world. Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and even Sanchez will be perfectly capable of filling in the strikers role for a season while the right target is identified. Fellaini was hardly a main stay in the team so did not really need replacing this summer. Herrera, while being one of our best midfielders last season was not exactly a key player for us therefore has been replaced with Pereira who will also not be a key player for us. While another midfielder would have been nice at this point, it is not the end of the world that we didn't get one, and waiting for the right one is a much better option.

Unlike in Fifa and FM, it is not realistic to sign 4,5,6+ players and expect the team to gel and go on a title challenge. The rebuild process will require a few windows. It was clear that a solid defence was required the most, and will lend to a fantastic base to continue the rebuild in the windows to come. More chance of us fizzling out if we throw cash at the wrong signings, out of fear.

Your remark of the Lo Celso deal being done 'competently' stunk of a dig at the club. Signing a player so late in the day, that they have been after all summer is everything but competent. You are also assuming we had more targets that we failed to get a deal done, when it is possible 'phase 1' of the rebuild was achieved with the Maguire signing and that was the end.

I did not claim everything is hunky dory, far from it. But I am a realist who understands that to rebuild and get the squad to the level required is not going to be done in 1 summer, and anyone who thinks otherwise are the deluded ones. The positives are that we now have a solid defence and room for some of our exciting youngsters to get some game time and make their mark. We are in a much better position this season to grind out wins when up against it rather than drop points unnecessarily like we have done more recently. Obviously grinding out wins is not ideal, but every league winning team needs that in their locker.

Next summer, or maybe even January, I am sure the rebuild will continue and will be focused on CM, RW and ST.
12 posts. Good man.

I'm at least glad the window is shut, we know the team now which is something I suppose, might ship a few out perhaps.

I really feel like we did solid business in terms of defence, and I was saying a lot last season, especially with mourinho, that the very weak defence meant we couldn't do much in attack, hopefully now the new lads can gel together and its one third of the problems fixed.

I actually think losing lukaku isn't that bad because clearly he wasn't in the managers plans, and he didn't play well many times last season and I think martial and rashford is a better pairing than ant combination of one or the other with lukaka in there and then mason Greenwood can be the backup rotation with Ole coming on as sub occasionally when one of those three gets injured.

Midfield we've still got carrick on the books, if Rooney can still knock it about then carrick can... Umm... scholes can come out of retirement right, that's worked before and Ashley Young hasn't played central midfield yet I don't think so that might be a thing.

Hope De Gea signs....

Dave must not be that interested in signing if that announcement wasn’t lined up to offset the disappointment.

Excellent post.

They think very highly of themselves, don’t they? So many reports of the ‘internal’ board at Bayern not thinking players are good enough. They’ve not been a European powerhouse for a little while now. Think they need to acknowledge that.

Have you seen Ashley Young play at LB lately?

Rojo is actually a far worse left back than Ashley Young, been absolutely abysmal every time he has played there for us. Dalot can play left back too as back up for Shaw so I woul dhave him as our 4th choice left back anyway

We still have Frankie Dettori too.

Well said

He does make a lot of good points and some of these youngsters deserve opportunities. I have to disagree with the "you cant sign six, its the first phase of a rebuild though" we have been in the first phase for a while and bar a couple of windows that phase has got us progressively worse.....so many still here shouldnt be and not enough ins that we have a mediocre first eleven and every manager has fell almost at the first hurdle as the side just isnt good enough.
Time will tell, but do we even know if the youngsters will get there chances and it wont just be Mata at 10, Lingard on the right all again. There could still be a couple more outs with the foreign window, but I really do think not making at least one if not two more signings really could hamper our opportunities to progress this season and if it goes badly we could just be going full circle to another manager, another philosphy and another rebuild. I am not all doom and gloom, but two major signings for me really isnt enough this window, they are both the right quality, we need an injection of quality to the first eleven but it should have been a minimum of four even with the youngsters coming through

I was waiting for that line.

They're chat skates as well, took out the tomatoe cous cous and tomatoe pasta salad for 'healthier' options. If you're going there for a 1200 calorie a slice pizza, the last thing you're arsed about is having healthier options on the salad bar. Feckers.

I truly hope you plucked 1200 fore a slice out of your arse. 1200!?
