Whay an earth didnt the just loan him? We have seven centre backs and when all are fit he is right at the bottom couple of those to play, he gets to resurrect his career which could lead to a future deal when he isnt going to play here anyway bar an injury crisis, we get a loan fee or wages paid....ludicrous

Because we might sell him to another club? the window closed only for the EPL.

Yeah thanks for the essay and all but no I haven’t moaned all summer. No we haven’t had a successful window and no we won’t be able to play with freedom if we don’t have a midfield capable of keeping the ball unfortunately.

I didn’t want a panic buy, I wanted us to identify targets for key areas which needs improvement. Then identify back ups if those targets were not obtainable - and then go out and get them.

Don’t you dare throw accusations about my character based on what? A one line opinion about how I am jealous of another teams ability to sign players they need? Jesus Christ.

Ole, the team and the supporters have been let down majorly and not for the first time. You might be happy to accept years and years of not challenging and eventually fizzling out a la Liverpool but that’s not for me.

They may have announced him late, but hey they got their man. We are going into the season without a recognised goalscorer, because we sold him and didn’t replace. Half a midfield because we sold them and didn’t replace. A much better defence, which is good but we aren’t going to make top 4 with that.

Now, you’re clearly deluded if you think everything is hunky dory at our club, but people are allowed to be upset. Yes I see some positives such as great up and coming youth players, and our team is not awful. But it is not good enough for the stature of club that we are.

Back at ya regarding the essay pal

If you haven't moaned all summer you most certainly have today. I think the most pressing areas have been identified and targets acquired. A weak defence will lose you games, simple as that. That has now, on paper been rectified.

Losing a recognised goalscorer who could hardly hit a barn door last season is hardly the biggest loss in the world. Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and even Sanchez will be perfectly capable of filling in the strikers role for a season while the right target is identified. Fellaini was hardly a main stay in the team so did not really need replacing this summer. Herrera, while being one of our best midfielders last season was not exactly a key player for us therefore has been replaced with Pereira who will also not be a key player for us. While another midfielder would have been nice at this point, it is not the end of the world that we didn't get one, and waiting for the right one is a much better option.

Unlike in Fifa and FM, it is not realistic to sign 4,5,6+ players and expect the team to gel and go on a title challenge. The rebuild process will require a few windows. It was clear that a solid defence was required the most, and will lend to a fantastic base to continue the rebuild in the windows to come. More chance of us fizzling out if we throw cash at the wrong signings, out of fear.

Your remark of the Lo Celso deal being done 'competently' stunk of a dig at the club. Signing a player so late in the day, that they have been after all summer is everything but competent. You are also assuming we had more targets that we failed to get a deal done, when it is possible 'phase 1' of the rebuild was achieved with the Maguire signing and that was the end.

I did not claim everything is hunky dory, far from it. But I am a realist who understands that to rebuild and get the squad to the level required is not going to be done in 1 summer, and anyone who thinks otherwise are the deluded ones. The positives are that we now have a solid defence and room for some of our exciting youngsters to get some game time and make their mark. We are in a much better position this season to grind out wins when up against it rather than drop points unnecessarily like we have done more recently. Obviously grinding out wins is not ideal, but every league winning team needs that in their locker.

Next summer, or maybe even January, I am sure the rebuild will continue and will be focused on CM, RW and ST.

I'm expecting the same sort of summer to last summer.

1. Anticipation coming towards the end of the season that there will be big changes. Fans post next seasons starting 11s with the big names. This has to be the summer we make it happen!

2. One or two articles come out hinting there won't be as much action as we thought. Fans call for the journos to go on the blacklist. They don't want to read or hear this shit.

3. June arrives. Panic starts to set in. "It's only June ffs" cry those that maintain high hopes.

4. July arrives. Panic creeps in further "It's only July ffs". Fans are still keeping hope, even though you'd have expected deals to have been agreed well in advance of this stage, considering the amount of business needed.

5. August arrives. Woodward is briefing left, right and centre trying to save face. Sheer panic has reached all corners. As we draw to the end of the month, the more hopeful fans make proclamations about the club being badly run, the same ones they were arguing against a month earlier because they still kept the faith that there were logical reasons why we'd not put deals in place before summer.

6. The new season is here and we're even further behind City and Liverpool. The battle for top 6 is on.

My prediction from May

You can save this template for next summer as it's gonna be 100% accurate as well.

SO true, happened every summer since Mourinhos first. The one positive, though we have not done nearly anywhere near enough in or out again, we have at least made one brilliant signing and one very good one I feel and there are a coupe of youngsters to possibly add on top, still not enough, not even close but better than the last few windows

Whatever Everton have paid, they've been ripped off.

Yet they turned their noses up at Rojo. Poopstains.

Apparently it was 28 million rising up to 34 million depending on performances. I think that's quite a good deal for Everton. He'll be good for them.

Everton are still a side capable of an extended losing streak mid season where they appear to forget ever fundamental about football.

No chance they finish above us, not even a concern.

It doesn’t help that their season is only 36 games long. The 2 games vs Liverpool when they shit themselves results in 0 points.

I find it weird that we seem to be the only 'big 6' club that repeatedly and willingly sells players to direct rivals. Or within the Premier League as a whole, even. Wonder why the club are so happy to facilitate these moves and don't insist these players move abroad.

Sending Luiz to Arsenal has the potential to really boost them.

Have you seen Ashley Young play at LB lately?

Remember when people were putting money on Newcastle to sign Mbappe? They end the transfer window with Andy Carroll. What a wild ride.

Disappointed that we didn't do anything about our midfield and attack, but hopefully some of our players step up this season. Think McTominay will have a really good season next to Pogba while Fred and Pereira contributes as well. A fluid front three will also be crucial to scoring the amount of goals needed, and if our attackers get a good understanding with each other we might get a lot more out of them.

Hopefully our improved defence will improve our attack also, but most importantly help us keep a lot more clean sheets than the previous season.

Having watched most of the pre-season games I think we will tactically play better and be a lot fitter than before. Also can't wait to see the youth players get a chance in the first team!

May as well have been a team bondage meal, for all the good it'll do.

Timely reminder though that the management team just have to get on with their job, and Solksjaer will just do it with a smile on his face. If I was him, I'd want to punch Woodward's smug mug every time I saw it.

Maybe they're just not as negative as you seem to be. Don't see why it's not a positive thing.
