Zaha is not going to be disgruntled at being refused a move to Everton, it's likely a move he may reject himself even if a bid was accepted. Certainly not one he will kick off over. He'll move somewhere better next summer.
You seem pretty sure about it not panning out that way. Everton could potentially break into the Top 6 with Zaha which is a way nicer situation to be in than playing for Palace while they fight for a 11-15 spot (best case scenario).

These pricks are willing to pay £30m for Iwobi and £70m for Zaha, yet they want Smalling on loan?

Feck sake lads, at least have the decency to offer us £15-20m. Smalling is a very good defender despite his weaknesses on the ball.

Under VAR will concede the most penalties in the prem with all the shirt grabbing he does.

Average defender.

Solskjaer doesn't seem to be particularly bothered about building up from the back, so the passing ability (or lack thereof) of his defenders probably won't be a concern (see AWB).

Are you saying AWB and Maguire cannot pass? I think you'll find that's inaccurate.

Did you actually watch AWB in pre-season? He was excellent going forward almost as much as he was excellent defending.

That's right, the man who is working day in day out with these guys for the last 9 months is clueless compared to say, some random guys and girls on an internet forum who have never managed in professional football or played at the highest level.

The level of disrespect for our manager, a club legend no less, is getting quite hard to take. I'd welcome the mods taking a bit of a stance on it. I'm not asking for a RAWK like ban on criticism, but the stuff like calling him a shill, a stooge, clueless, an idiot, etc would not be permitted if aimed at another poster, but fine if it's directed at our manager.

Well said.

With the clusterfeck that Ed has put us in, at least it has tapered my expectations. If we get 4th, it will be a miracle. Ole deserves the Manager of the Year for that.

I imagine Zidane will not make overtures for Eriksen as he wants Pogba, either now or next summer. A very strange window of clubs needing to shunt players around against their will. Mostly seems like tabloid nonsense though, I do wonder how much of any of it is true.

He's just bought one of the best defenders for exactly that though

I'll judge after 5 pl games, pre season ain't a base. Spurs were very unfit at the game having played only 1 game before too.

I honestly can't see us getting more than a point from our opening two fixtures.

I remember when we sold Stam to Lazio for around 17 million quid. It was payable over 10 years I think and even then the feckers failed to pay an installment and the Italian league had to stump up the money from some kind of hardship fund.

I like Smalling but I doubt Solskjaer seems him as 'integral'.

More likely we just don't want to loan one of the few CBs we have who other clubs might actually buy.

I agree we shouldn't be loaning Smalling out but if a good cash offer comes in I'd take it, shifting players has been a real challenge and I'd rather we give third choice minutes to Tuanzebe now.

You don't move out your very useful squad players in order to give chances to young players, when there's useless squad members laying about. Rojo and Bailly hardly ever play. They spend 6/9 months on the treatment table interspersed with a few appearances where they look absolutely crap. Move them out and there'd be plenty of space for Tuanzebe.

This is my worry. Every match he will give away a penalty. We see it week in week out, multiple times per game.

I don’t know why everyone is losing their shit. This is exactly what I wanted - careful, considerate transfers. We have bought in two players who,by the end of the season, I am very confident will be considered two of the best in our squad and the league. We want and need midfield reinforcements but it just can’t be anybody - it has to be a player of quality, who is hungry for the challenge and wants to be at the club for the right reasons! If we did indeed pull our of both Dybala and Erickson because they didn’t want to be here then that’s fine with me.

This model Ole and the club is taking is not going to be quick - it’s going to be a painful, slow transition to being a good team again and I think it’s the right one.

Obviously didn't watch any pre-season games. It was fairly obvious that this season we can expect much less long balls from DDG

Getting rid of Smalling would be definitely soften the blow of not signing anyone else this transfer window.

I would take a free agent CM now or a loan one because things are absolutely desperate

Everton pulled out of deal for Doucoure. Think it be worth a punt and try and add 1 or 2 players as part of deal. Add steel to our midfield and has good engine to get box to box.

Why does it have be one extreme or the other? There are ways to address this situation without acting like a total pillock (Mourinho) or a total optimist (Ole). Just look at how Klopp or Poch in the past have made their feelings known. How does one go from 'these players have played last game for Utd' to 'I'm happy with the squad' in space of 3 months. It doesn't compute.

He won't be this dignified or professional about it once the pressure is up and his own neck is on the chopping block. Woodward has taken the entire club and its fanbase for a ride, manager pretending everything is fine won't suddenly make it fine. We need key signings in attack and midfield, if the manager is afraid to make a fuss about it without upsetting the apple cart. How does it bode well for our future?

If the relationship between manager and boss is like you portray, then its doomed from the beginning.

Ole experienced in front of his own eyes how gutless some of the performances were by these players, he was angry and promised a clean up over the summer. If he was this determined about it, he'd be adamant some of them have no future. We have sold exactly zero players this summer, what'll happen when the same performances are being repeated? A manager has to take a stand, grow a spine as to certain things which are acceptable/unacceptable. All I've seen is him change the tune and match what his boss wants to hear.

You can take this sanctimonious bullshit elsewhere, last time I checked this was still an open forum and fans are free to express their opinion. Just because it doesn't align with you doesn't mean others have 'do something else'.
Yes, the relationship between Ole and Woodward might be doomed from the start, we won't know until we see it over the course of a season. You seem really determined to make Ole out as some kind of spineless man, but he's put faith in some of our important players while also making our team look a hell of a lot better than Mourinho ever did. If you don't get the exact tools you want for a job, you either quit or stay and fight until you get what you want.

And yes, it's a forum. That means I can critizise your opinion also. I may have been a bit rude, it's just that you seem a bit too impatient when taken into account that this project has barely started. You're slating a manager before he's even gotten his first game with his first pre-season and his first own signings. He leaves it up to Woodward to sell these players, and I want them out as much as you do, but he also focuses on the positives rather than the negatives which we sorely need after Mourinho.

Please will you and people who keep saying similar look up the actual situations VAR will be used in.

VAR will be used in all 360 Premier League matches this season.

It will only be used for incidents involving

  • each goal scored
  • each penalty awarded
  • each straight red card shown
  • cases of mistaken identity
Fair enough, guess he will get away with it some more.

There's no one in for them though

The main issue most fans have is that we should be competing for the league. It's obvious that we should. But we're not making the right decisions. Liverpool in this position last year decided to fix their two biggest issues over a few months. They won the CL and nearly won the league. Once you fix your biggest weaknesses you have a chance. But United doesn't have the right owners. So we're left hoping that we're good enough. Meanwhile teams like Everton and Wolves have far superior midfields.

I think I've finally made peace with the fact that we're not going to get another signing in.

Nobody is getting rid of Smalling while keeping Jones/Rojo.

You can only sell players if another club wants them.

If we don’t bring anyone else in, where’s the motivation to even turn on the telly for the Chelsea game? It will take a modern miracle to scrape a top 4 finish this year.
