He can always say the talks broke down, there - easy way out of his claims without any harm to reputation

So basically, a good reporter would tweet that ‘talks are advanced to the point where they cannot break down.’

If you want to see a journo covering all bases you can just read Simon Stone's tweets.

You also do realise that talks do occasionally break down, right? It's not necessarily a matter of journo making shit up.

Didn't Emery say there is no way Koscielny plays for Arsenal ever again? Embarrassing.
Yeah, bizarre. Let him go. Players have always taken the piss and got back into good books, but that's the elite, highly marketable players. Not a 33 year old looking to retire back in France.

I don't know why people get so worked up about journalists. Just don't read the news if you hate them so much!

Many journalists will have posted that a deal is nearly done only for it to fall apart in the past. In these cases journalists are called liars and calls for them to be blacklisted start appearing. Its real life! Things are not guaranteed! Yes there are journalists that post rubbish without any info, there are some that think they are posting valid information based on a reliable source. That reliable source may just gave them false information to push a certain narrative in the press, but that's not the journalists fault.

The other complaint is that "we already knew that" when one journalist posts information a bit later than another journalist. Each journalist will have some different followers, so to those followers its new information. If anything its the person posting the tweet on here that is posting information we already know.

Transfers were so much simpler in the days of ceefax and teletext

Those were the days! Remember the pages with the dial in numbers? "Manchester United linked with Brazilian ace", never rang them but there was a bit of excitement when seeing it! The old style click bait
