I'm not the most avid Serie A watcher, but when I've seen him he's looked good; loads of potential. What's the deal with him?

Was touted as the next big thing a couple of years ago....by Raiola ironically, yes another of his clients. I think he is rough around the edges, but I think we should be in for him, sell Lukaku for £70m and buy Keane for £40m odd would be great business

I've no idea what Bailly ever did for us for so many to still rate him, he's regressed basically every season he's been here.

This is very true, think he looked really good in his first season, if brash. He just seems to have a couple of diabolical games, get dropped, then come back and get injured, a weird cycle.

Saying that, I do still think ability wise, he is still our best centre back with the right partner and I would still sell the likes of Jones and Rojo way before him, but as we are obviously not selling Jones and has he has regressed and not taken any of the last 4/5 chances, think it probably is time for him to go

In the top 10 worlds centre backs for me. As somebody else said, he is the captain and would cost a lot of money but if it was a choice of Bailly + £60m or Maguire, wouldnt even be a debate for me.

Funny in 30 odd years England had only really produced Paul Parker, Lee Dixon and Gary Neville. Now we have 5/6 really good right backs all at the same time. Not even biased as follwoed him since he broke through, but I think AWB is the best of the lots (seen very little of Aarons mind you)

If Redcafe was in charge of our negotiations we'd cough up the "only an extra £10m" on every target and accept "£5m-£10m less because we don't want him in the squad" on every sale and by the end of each summer we'd be £80m worse off than what we should be.

If Woodward was in charge he would probably try and haggle every deal last summer for an extra 10 here and there trying to get a CB and end up with none.. He would also probably try and squeeze an extra 5 million out of intalian clubs for Darmian and end up not selling him and getting even smaller bids in summer 2019.

I listened to the podcast and it was presented as the agent's claim. Castles was quick to point out that there was skepticism about this bid happening as the agent has been making claims like this about bids from various clubs all Summer.

Castles in general hasn't been making outlandish claims or passing off rumour as fact.

He is the same age as Bailly and granted has not got the same injury record, but statistically you can see Bailly might be underrated

In summary, Bailly looks a marginally better defender, but not as good at passing or providing long ball options, but hard to read into that given the possession based game of City so more of the passes are probably low risk and the long balls to high energy wingers.

This is based off a relatively small sample of games for Bailly, so hard to read into it, but i do think the potential is there. If he can avoid injury and keep discipline he could be a useful asset.

Then you actually watch them play and realise Laporte is miles ahead of Bailly.

The loan would include an obligation to buy. We would be effectively selling him for £63 million.

Completely agree. Apart from being a very good defender which we sorely miss and the right age he is a captain and that is something we should be looking to sign as we have no leader in our side at all, hence the awful last couple of captains we have had.

Forgetting fees which are irrelevant really to me, I think Maguire is a good signing, but I can think of at least ten that are excellent signings, we have already missed out on DeLigt, Hermoso looks like going to Ateltico, Kabak has gone to Schalke but still 6/7 top centre backs we should be moving for.
Think the young English signing of Bissaka was a great one. Not sure Maguire, Longstaff are at all though when there are so many better players in Europe we dont even seem to be getting linked to, which is weird as we have been linked with so many players this summer already

Added a missing part of that logic. Because we didn't become the best club in England by penny pinching and scuppering deals over 5 or even 10% differences in valuations.

Please tell me you realise that Woodward isn't the one and only person who identifies targets, negotiates with both club and player and signs off all financial aspects of any deals?

Not tactically astute or intelligent enough for Pochettino and Simeone is the same if not even more so. Add in language barrier and new culture etc and this will not end will. Atletico will probably make a profit on him though.

Wrong currency. Offer is supposed to be €60+15, so €75m or £68m. Straight transfer, not loan
