It's a team game. Spurs have a technically gifted manager which had Sissoko and Eriksen in midfield. They are not English.
England u21's were technically outclassed in the Euros just past.
I'm sorry, but I just don't rate a lot of British players as potential world class. I think it's just a British mentality hype thing. We needed a right back, AWB fits the bill. Longstaff though! Much better options in world football for that position
One is a team game while the International game somehow wasn't? Some logic there buddy!

So maybe we need to give some of these players a chance?
Look at the difference between Foden and Sancho.
Ones flirting with the first team, while ones playing for England and could easily fetch a transfer fee of 100m

Maybe sometimes we buy a Longstaff and it pays off. Liverpool didn't do bad with the Robertson transfer, but you wouldn't have wanted that either at the time I take it?

We've tried with many proven players over the last few years and look how that's worked out?
Both those players are being well coached and Foden is learning from some of the best in the world. I just still have worries about Ole. That is the crux of the matter with me I'm afraid. I think the intentions are right, but not sure he is up to it. I will be happy if he proves me wrong.

We need a couple of leaders to bring the best out in these youngsters.
Maguire would be fine for defence, but we need a midfield general also.

This just isn't true though is it, did you even watch the games? They were not technically outclassed by any side they played. I'd argue they were technically better than all the sides they played. Croatia passed it fairly decently too but were still second best in possession 60 vs 40% and in team pass completion 92 vs 84% but France were a team of athletes and Romania were a counter attacking team. Romania's man of the match against England, Hagi, got 15 touches in the whole game.

England were undone by idiotic individual defensive mistakes and by wasting countless chances at the other end.

It's literally just some young Brits? Even then are we pretending we signed one of the best young RB in Europe because he's English?
Liverpool became the best side in Europe with these kind of signings. Just look at their transfer rumor threads and you'll see the same snob attitude towards Mane etc yet here we are again not giving anyone a chance.
Maybe we are planning around Pogba etc staying and it's not this grand mystery if they stay or not? Why can't we judge the business by the end of the window instead of doomsday scenarios that probably wont even happen?
I do not have a problem with AWB, but Klopp makes a hell of a difference to that Liverpool team with regards Mane and Robertson. If we had not fallen away last season we might have managed to get Sancho, going for the best out there, exciting players. I am probably more worried about the players who are established in our team than any coming in. They are the ones who are not good enough and not sure some are a good influence either. Pre-season will show us if any of our kids are ready to step up. People keep bigging up Gomes and Chong, I am probably more interested in the likes of Tanner, Williams etc.

And it has been rejected

Waste of time. Just give Tuanzebe the chance or buy Koulibaly or Ruben Dias as either best in class or high potential. Maguire is barely worth £50m, £70m is a very generous offer. Leicester can invest in other players that will have little impact on their potential positioning/ cup runs.

Maguire is not a world class defender. He is a solid reliable, no thrills defender. That shouldn't come with a massive premium.

Which would make him the best defender we have.

Bid for slabhead rejected. Offering 70mil was more than generous. Move on to the next target please

Well that Maguire bid was short lived . Encouraging to see there's movement on the transfer front at least.

We're also the current u17 world cup winners and won the u20 world cup 2 years ago.
England are producing some very good young talents right now..... But you clearly wouldn't want Sancho would you?
If he has a season like he had last year again, then yes! he has proven something.
We are in such a state now, considering the size of the club, we should be getting into the Champions League every season. Not waiting on players like Longstaff and Dan James to blossom, when they probably won't even blossom! Fine if we are flying and competing, but we're not, we need players who are young but established and the right fit in the right positions. Quick fix players with potential. Is Ceballos one? Yes. Is Longstaff? No.

It's insulting isn't it. Just sold a young RB for £50m.
Everyone knows about the 25% clause, so Arsenal effectively just offered them £30m for their best player.

I wouldn't even respond.
Yeah I think things are going to get a little sour between the two after that.

To be honest I feel like Maguire will change his mind and push for a transfer if another 1-2 bids get rejected...as much as he feels grateful towards Leicester, he can make a lot more money here and achieve more from a footballing aspect as well.

 Panic button pressed. Same money would have landed him last year and fulfilled Mourinho's wishes and not had a season down the drain and Europa league finish.

Wonder why we didn't bid for koulibaly last summer before him signing a new contract.

If we did start bidding with 70m, we'll probably go up to 75-80..

They get to say world record fee.. We'll probably structure it.

Crazy money.

Yeah signing CB would have saved all the meltdown.

Wonder why any club didn't bid for Koulibaly last season. Maybe there is a hint if you look.

Depends on which player we are talking about.

Loaning a seasoned player who can help us? yes
Loaning a young player who needs time to develop? No.

At least if we have option to buy then yeah, not a dry loan to help some other team.

Instead of buying player who isn't good enough, we should sign players who are good enough instead of developing some other club's players.

I understand your point - he'd go back to Real Madrid a better player if we developed him. (I believe that's your point, anyway? Please feel free to correct me.).

BUT - what if he develops with us, and then he loves Manchester and wants to stay? What if he's superior to what we have right now, would improve us next season and then we get into the Champions League? He leaves, but he leaves us in a better position than when he started? I know short-term thinking isn't ideal. particularly as we've had 7 years in a row of short-termism. But surely we must think about the coming season as well? We can't simply continue to write off our upcoming seasons, as we did last year. We need quality, regardless of age and country of origin, and we need it right now.

So if we's not worth at least 35m? What do you consider him being worth?

I say he's worth half on ability, adf the fact that he's an English player playing for a Premier league aside, theres always gonna be an extra premium to be paid so I'd pay 50m max for him.

Leicester can go ahead and keep him and lose him for much less than the 70m they just rejected in the future when the 2 Manc sides aren't interested anymore.

Spurs getting Ndombele for 70m and us bidding 70m for Maguire and getting the bid rejected shows why we NEED to shop elsewhere, preferably in France where there are 10 central defenders better than Maguire we can get for less than 50m right fecking now.

Yeah that's my point. Re you next paragraph, if we had option to buy then it will be a good deal, not as a dry loan. If he develops well, Madrid won't sell him and player won't push for a transfer from Madrid, after all he is Spanish player and it's their dream to play for Madrid.

If ceballos is the difference between us finishing top 4 and outside it, then we are in deep shit. He isn't Messi, just one more talented young player.

80 million on Maguire. He better be an absolutely top CB for that fee.
