Has to be Jovic, there are no other good strikers available out there. But I really hope Ole isn't planning on having Rashy as first choice striker, his blind loyalty towards some players like Rash and Young makes me feel that we could see Rash as the main striker. If that's the case we can write off next season before the season even begins. Rashford is nowhere near ready to lead the line for a top club, I hope Ole, being a forward himself sees this

Do you not think with a more structured team and more creativity, Rashford could step up and score goals on a consistent basis?

He was banging the goals in when we went through a bit of a purple patch when Ole took over.

This does not read well.

Ex France striker doubts Dembele ability
Lyon striker Moussa Dembele has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks.

But former France forward Christophe Dugarry is not convinced by the former Celtic and Fulham striker, after reports that United had tabled a £40million bid.

“Moussa Dembele? I’m not having him. He does not convince me.

“I find him static, ungenerous with his team-mates and limited technically.

“He has a good build and he can progress but he makes very little effort. His attitude is not right.”

Sounds like a worse version of lukaku

Important to start offloading the deadwood first regardless of whether we can sign suitable replacements or not. Lukaku certainly is part of the deadwood, so hope Conte does us a favor.
Buying first, than offloading would be smarter. Opposite that and we can end up thin in some positions and up front we are thin as it is.

I find it baffling that players don't know who they're going to sign for. Surely clubs have been speaking to their reps and the clubs reps for weeks at this stage? Suspect it's journo's making stories up or agents trying to generate a bidding war.

Wouldn't be the first time the Manchester clubs confused a player.

Sterling has always been a better player than Rashford overall though. He has had a consistent season under Liverpool and City collectively not selective periods of good form. Rashford is a hot and cold performer but when he's cold it's atrocious and it outlasts his good form.

Kane is a freak in regards to his development, it's an abnormality because he has instinctive strengths which you cannot coach. It's certainly not going to be a case you'll see very often, otherwise you could say that any youth player can reach world class levels which is untrue.

I look at Rashford and just think in terms of him leading the line he's easily one of the lowest rated in the league, he's too wasteful. I'd take no problems with Rashford starting many games in wide areas, but as I've always said if Solskjaer starts the season with no established striker it will lose him his tenure because we will not finish games.

Yeah, to be fair Drogba had the most similar development to Kane in that he didn't really hit his stride until his mid-20's. It seems those bigger strikers don't emerge as young. I imagine our hope was Lukaku would develop similarly.

I do think its quite difficult to compare Rashford with Sterling in that he has had huge pressure to lead the line whereas Sterling has been a side-kick to Suarez and Aguero. It's a completely different level of expectation and even then Sterling has had his difficult moments particularly under Pellegrini I seem to remember.

Harsh & a bit disrespectful calling him deadwood, I think Ole rightfully wants to go in a different direction but Lukaku is a good striker and will do well elsewhere.

Robinho thought he was joining Chelsea when he signed for City? A lot of players just leave everything up to their agents, surprised some of them can manage to wipe their arses.

Can we just not looking at potential duds like Dembele instead go all in for Jovic if Lukaku leave? Jovic is much much better than any of our strikers and Dembele. 60m for Jovic should be okay considering Madrid want to sign him for 52m

Which is exactly what DeLigt said he was doing

Not really. Lukaku would be well down the list of players we should get rid off first.

Seems like it's perpetually Dembele, Fernandes, Sancho, de ligt, Meunier, Dybala, Partey, Griezmann, Rodri, Felix news

I'm ready for some fresh links journos!
Bring on Atal, Ferro, F. Mendy, Ndidi, Brozovic, Ziyech, Pepe, Milik, Telles instead

I remember reading a column inch by a sports journalist that had gone to interview a big UK based agent. While they were sat in his office a phone call came through from one of the players the agent was representing, the player on the end of the phone was implied to be Adabayor during his City years.

Phone rings. Agent answers. Conversation goes:

Agent: "How can I help?"
Player: "The gardener is here today"
A: "Okay..."
P: "I don't want him here today"
A: "Okay, well just tell him that he can come back some other time this week"
P: "Can't you do it?"
A: "Erm, okay, sure. Where is he?"
P: "He's at my front door..."
A: "Okay... and where are you?"
P: "I'm in the living room looking at him through the window"
A: "...I'll call him now..."

Agent then called the gardener and asked him to come back tomorrow instead. So yes, they do pretty everything including wiping their arses!

Hopefully Ed reads the Caf.

I'd not be surprised to get a similar phone call from my wife

I'm not sure I entirely agree. If Lukaku goes we need a replacement for certain so it's a two part sale.

Also he is high value and high salary, thus has a big impact on the transfer window.

Rojo, Darmian on the other hand, whilst less beneficial to the team are also a bit take or it leave it backups.

Then you have someone like Young who might not get sold at all and if does (e.g.US) the sale might not be a first priority for that team thus more likely to sell later in the window if at all. Jones similar to this.

Alongside Lukaku is the other high value or high salary players in De Gea/ Pogba and Sanchez. De Gea top priority as short contract, Sanchez as waste of salary. Pogba a small priority, but need the right messaging around him so better to get sorted early one way or another.

No chance will we get a penny for Young.
Might be a good thread idea for opinions on what job he does next. I can see him getting a cushy seat beside Souness letting some of that shite back out of his mouth.

Sounds about right with the money they are asking. Pogba should be shagging Riolas whole family tree for the money mentioned for him.

When I say sold, I mean we pay some of his contract to fcuk off to the US, because yes we'd be lucky if someone takes him and his salary.

Young has been worse than Neville when Neville realised it was time to call it a day. The only difference is Neville was physically finished. Young looks fairly fit, but everytime he gets to the ball he can't pass or cross or even at least kick the ball in a useful space! He is currently worse than some of the worst people I have ever played football with. Why Ole plays him is beyond me!

You don't to remind me how bad Young is at playing football these days.
He must have great influence in the dressing room though otherwise any of of last 5 managers could surely see how shit he is.

Its a massive decision to make and one that a player should take his time making.

I can't help but moan uncontrollably at the thought of Young. And I so badly want to punch him in the face to wake him from the daze of pretending he is a footballer. Although it's not really his fault that United keep paying and playing him!

I think Mark Goldbridge might have got it right when he was joking that all the money Young has earned in his career is now being reinvested to allow United to play him! Literally back to grass roots, pay to play!

Rob Dawson: Manchester United are hopeful Eric Bailly will be fit to fly out to Australia for the first leg of their preseason tour, sources have told ESPN FC, giving the defender a chance to cement his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad for next season...
Solskjaer has centre-backs Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly on his radar but interest has cooled in recent weeks and the central defenders already in the squad -- Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe -- are set to get a chance to impress during preseason.
Solskjaer is still looking to sign a defender during the transfer window but sources have told ESPN FC that the Norwegian has prioritised bringing in a new right-back to add competition for 33-year-old Ashley Young and 20-year-old Diogo Dalot."
