It's like us replacing Scholes and Ferdinand. It doesn't matter, they won't have the same quality right away.

Kompany spends half the season injured and Silva is not the player he was. Bernardo can comfortably take his place with a fit KDB alongside him. You're kidding yourself if you think this does any serious damage to them. Not to mention the potential replacements they bring in.

maybe but the difference (imoa) is City seem better at replacing players than we were/are ... and integrating them into a system of play. Scholes was a much bigger loss to us (given influence, rest of team and replacements) than Silva will be to City.

will they miss them? Probably (though Kompany played less than half the league games and Silvas assist levels are less vital to the team now.... more of a balanced squad input). Can they replace them and manage to still compete? Very likely. They'll find two more players that miraculously cost £50m

Kompany hasn't been at his best for years now so won't be the miss you'd think.

Silva is still fluential but again not as much as before.
B silva can take over as a ready made replacement in the middle.

United still haven't replaced either Ferdinand or scholes..city are run a bit wiser

They're losing players that know what it takes to win a title, we saw Kompany and Silva grind them over the line in the last few weeks. Taking that out of your team is massive. I'm not saying they'll drop outside the top 4 but having players around your squad that can do that is important.

Kompany only had 17 starts in the league this year. He's essentially already been replaced.

Silva was a regular starter, and would be more difficult to replace, but they have plenty of money and have been spot on with transfers lately.

The most we see them fall is hitting the mid-80s and finishing second to Liverpool next year while their new signings adjust. That's a fall from their incredible recent highs, but it's hardly a struggle.
