I was unaware that our deal from Martial included bonuses. Like I said I just looked it up.
You didn't want to include bonuses in the Martial deal to make him sound less expensive and include them to make Fati sound more expensive.

We ended up paying £43.2m for Martial (he failed to hit 2/3 clauses).

What’s the equivalent of ~£45 million in today’s inflated market? Martial was 2015 and prices have increased a bit since then. In 2015 ADM was a British transfer record at £56 million I think.
£89 Million would be a decent chunk of money to spend on a 17 y/o though. Would be the Joao Felix of 2020.

Does he want to play for Manchester United, or would he just be joining because he can't get in the Barca starting 11 yet? If Barca is his dream then that is not the type of player we are looking for. We are talking about a kid who has been there since he was 10. The only way I would want him is if the Sancho deal doesn't go through this year and we could get him on loan for a year...

I think what he is arguing is that we didn't originally pay that for Martial. We paid just over 30m for him (which to me seemed high at the time for an unknown kid) when we got him. If he turned out to be a dud we wouldn't have paid anything more. As it turns out, he's been good so we have had to pay extra in add ons...
I understood him fine. He was arguing that Martial cost 36 million initially but Ansu would cost 150 million when it would be 100 million.

Joao Felix is definitely a strange transfer, can't see many clubs forking out £89m up front for a player with less than 30(?) games - could definitely see £89m with add ons included.

exactly. I suppose the flip of that is the time Adnan J broke through and there were rumours that PSG wanted to sign him for £40 million. He was doing really well for us and we promptly signed him up to a new deal. obviously with hindsight we were silly not to take the money While his stock was highest but big clubs aren’t in the business of selling their best prospects. Who knows, our scouts might be right and in 2 years Fati is the next Messi or he just as easily could pull an Adnan. On what I’ve seen Barca would be silly to refuse £100-150 million for him and we would be crazy to offer. We’ve been linked to so many players by decent sources over the last few months. It’s hard to keep up at this stage.

Not that much. If he were to go for that much it would completely destroy the transfer market. It's one thing for a young player who is a first team regular to go for that much. We are talking about a kid who is a sub at best and has scored a grand total of 4 goals. If that makes you worth close to 100m then imagine what Bojan Krkic was worth at the same age...

If we get a midfielder, then it should be Bellingham, meaning we can loan him back to Birmingham. Doesnt make sense for an established midfielder to come here for the reasons I stated in my first post.
Could Van Der Beek be signed instead of Bellingham but we still get both Grealish & Sancho

We have quantity in midfield but little quality. Also the future of Lingard Pereira Matic Mata and Pogba are uncertain. Better to secure someone now instead of only when they leave
