fecking Longstaff. Rather see Garner get a chance than buying a guy that can't get regular games for Newcastle. Hopefully just the press stirring more bullshit.

Emre Can would be a solid loan until the end of the season and for a fee I imagine both Juve and Can would be up for that. He’d have plenty of match time, be hungry to prove himself, he knows the league and he could provide some real cover for our defenders. Yes we need creativity but with McTominay out and Matic’s legs gone we would be lucky to find a better option that’s also realistic.

Well if Ole is going to keep sounding like a grovelling beggar asking the Glazers and Ed for alittle more bread then I'm hardly surprised we'll continue to get linked to some uninspiring players, though Can would improve us slightly to be fair.

ESPN know nothing luckily but that would be a depressing level of target. Don't add the creativity we're clearly crying out for and neither of them are starters for their teams (one can't even start for Newcastle regularly). Would be cementing our position in the midtable.

Seems to me that they're thinking more along the lines of getting someone in to replace the injured players rather than add genuine quality to the midfield.

I think Can could do a job and is more physically suited against powerful midfields than Fred is for one of the DM roles in the team. If we're going to have someone with physical attributes come in to replace Matic, he'd be a good choice without breaking the bank.

However he's obviously not going to transform the team and he isnt counted on at Juventus, so the price should reflect that. Juventus got him for free, Liverpool paid under £11 million for him before that. If we can pick him up for around £20 million now, alternatively take him on loan with an agreed fee somewhere between £20 - 30 million then fine.

If Juventus want any more than that, laugh and walk away please.

As for Longstaff... He's okay. He can pass a bit, has decent feet to move the ball, can shoot a bit, can tackle a bit. He's a general central midfielder, but he's not currently good enough for Newcastle to pick him every week so it would be ridiculous for him to cost much more than Jonjo Shelvey or Isac Hayden who keep him out of the team. Again £20-30 million at a push for depth and to compete with McTominay and Fred? Sure. But again he wont transform the team and if he's ever going to improve the team it might be in a couple of years because he's currently not better than McTominay and Fred. So the fee should represent that or we should steer clear of him

I was open to the Longstaff signing in the summer, but having seen a bit more of him I’d rather we passed. As others have said he’s not as good as McTominay and I’d rather give Garner or Levitt some game time. Feck, I’d rather give Mejbri some game time.
Can, I’d take on a loan with and option to sign but wouldn’t want us to sign him without having a good look at him.

I’d agree with this. I was interested in the prospect in the summer but he hasn’t kicked on this season at all.

Much depends on who s available. Most players cited in press are not available - Maddison, Grealish and Phillips just ti name a few.
If the choice goes down to Longstaff vs Can, I prefer Longstaff.
Watched a bit if Can in a Juventus game and wasn't impressed. He looked like someone who already peaked.
Longstaff despite his drawback looks like someone who s yet to reach his full potential

Yeah I think these would be pointless signings. Can always struck me as rounded but not great at anything, Longstaff doesn't look a special talent at all after some hype last year and is not even a constant at Newcastle. Was shit when we played them recently. With everyone fit they don't start and I don't see the value of bringing in players who dont improve our team.

We have too many players who are just Ok, it's time to sign quality that can push them out of the 11 and in turn our bench and rotational options will be stronger.

We desperately need bodies as far as I’m concerned, I just feel that blowing even £25m plus wages on a 4 year contract for somebody who’d be obsolete in 6 months is a bit of a waste of money.
Signing someone who isn’t a viable option beyond our injury crisis will be another stick to beat the club with. It’d be more preferable to take a loanee and buy properly in the summer by my reckoning.
Having said that it’s not my cash, so I’m not that arsed, get somebody in so I don’t have to watch Matic amble round the midfield for the next 3 months. Could you imagine the scenes if Fred got injured too...

Longstaff doesn't seem realistic in that he's playing for the team he loves, doing well in the league and Newcastle would really not want to sell.

Loaning players with experience seems the most likely.

What?? The guys garbage and can’t even nail down a spot consistently in a Newcastle team, hope we steer well clear or I’ll really start to worry where Oles trying to take this club.

Mike Ashley would sell his mum if the price is right.
As a side-note, both Longstaff brothers are currently negotiating new contracts with no agreement in sight.
Newcastle are mostly worried about Matty as he may leave for a very small fee next June if there s no agreement.
Sean has a longer contract and they do not consider his renewal as urgent

What what?

Where did I say he's any good or we should sign him? I hope we don't go anywhere near. I'm saying I doubt he wants to leave or Newcastle want to sell, we saw this in the summer.

I'd rather we loan an experienced player than go for a silly bid on this guy.

I'm sure. That would go without saying and goes for many players out there, put in a silly bid and you can get the player.

As we saw in the summer how difficult it was 6 months ago I don't see it being a realistic option to go down this road again in Jan. I'm talking in reality.

There is no need to quote me saying a mega bid would get him.

I m not an expert on Newcastle but MAYBE he and his brother are not getting selected more often due to contractual issues pending with the club.

You're all absolutely right - It's @Fridge chutney who ruins the thread with his tweets.... It's absolutely not the whingers who constantly moan about his tweet page after page after page. :wenger:

Just ignore them for god sake. I have an interest in lower league football, so I would be very much opposed to him being banned. I'm not alone in this, which I suspect is the reason that the mods allow the tweets. You know.. Because he's actually following the rules of the thread?!

Absolutely, and it's also definitely not the ones whinging about others moaning who are taking the thread off topic either.
