I think it's because werew not targeting the flashier positions personally. It's much easier to build hype over a new striker or winger coming in. When you're talking about a young RB or a CM with potential to improve it's harder to get as excited.
Still those are the positions that need strengthening and I'm all for it. I'd rather we address our needs than go and splash the cash on more big names in areas we don't need.
I’m in exactly the same boat, I would actually be quite happy if all we did was bought 3 new defenders.
It doesn’t need to be flashy names, but when you find out that your manager is attending a Russia v Austria game and he might be interested in golovin and Arnautovic, it’s hard to think he’s doing anything other than looking at players who will play his style and be loyal to him. They are so far from the quality we need to compete next season.
I’d take our entire transfer budget and spend it on Alex Sandro, Fred and alderweireld, and then just hope that this kid from Porto fulfils his potential very early.
Right now from what I can tell, all things point to our defence being 75% the same as it was last season and that’s just not on.
