Where would he fit in with us? Next to Matic or behind?

I haven't seen much at all of him but seems from scouting reports he is a pretty fast thinking holding midfielder who's good at getting the ball moving.

What stands Fred out is his resourcefulness. I wouldn't tie him down to a holding midfield role at all. He is versatile in the middle - something a tactical minded manager like Jose will relish. Fred is your typical utility midfield player. He can play deep, play as a classical CM, as a playmaker and even be played further forward. He carries a brilliant pass in him and yes, he is quick thinking. People say he is left footed and they have a solid basis for that because he uses his left more and it is stronger but I wouldn't call him a one footed player. He strikes me as two footed considering how effective his right is especially when it comes to long range passes and even striking of the ball. He can play with Pogba and Matic in a midfield three or replace Matic either in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. With Fred, I will be less worried if Matic is out. The down side is that he could drift out of games at times and there really is no telling how a player will fare in the PL until the player actually experiences it.

Mike Keegan: United believe they have won the race for Fred - with the Brazilian midfielder likely to undergo a medical next week.
......And it is understood Jose Mourinho feels he has now got his man from Shakhtar Donetsk, for an initial fee of around £43m plus add-ons which would take it to £52.2m.

‘Fred is due in England this weekend’

He has been in England all week. Do some research Mike.

Here we go with the transfer fee's again. It will be £60m tomorrow...

So that's. £104,000,000 then, £43mil plus £8mil add ons plus £200,000 a week for 5 years :D

The media love overstating our transfer fees, don't they?

Wouldn't be surprised to hear Napoli paid St. Pep and City £50 million to take Jorginho from them and teach him the ways of footballing sainthood and excellency next week.

Klopp, who never buys expensive recruits, also managed to get Keita, VVD and Fabinho for only the combined small one time price of £175 million. They will play for free as well, of course. They have managed to consolidate their expensive signings into one, low-monthly payment. This is a small price to pay for learning the heavy-metal, loud F1 ways of gegenfeckery.

Meanwhile, United continue spending obscenely with Pogba, Lukaku and Sanchez on £5 million a week combined.

The media narrative of us being some unattractive football club where players only join for money is staggering.

How are United “winning the race for Fred” when they’re the only side in for him?

I’ve not seen anyone else linked to him and United have had the deal done for about a week.

A race against time perhaps.

Probably because it is easier to inflate his fee if they give the impression it is a 'race'.

Watch him quoted at fee in euros directly translated to pounds, plus bonuses and wages when he finally signs.

Not seen much of him but from what I have I would totally agree. If we can also sign a second cm AND a right winger would ive us all kind of options in cm, as I think Lingard is actually good in there when we have an attacking mindset, but I personally dont like Mata playing on the right wing and see Lingard more as a drifting attackign midfielder with his good movement

They hijack it by offering 20m less? Logic.

Lazio want Pjaca and a couple youngsters to strengthen their squad on a cheap, so Marotta & Lotito can work a mutually convenient deal by inflating the numbers to generate positive net spending for both clubs. Same as Higuain + €50m Marotta is proposing Inter for Icardi.

Whatever you call it, they play a game which doesn't involve a lot of speculative passes. A player who frequently passes to the opposition is out of place.

But they do now play those speculative passes, otherwise Coutinho also wouldn't fit would he.

They mainly play a tight defensive style nowadays and rely on moments of magic from their forwards to win games.

Coutinho only began to look the business in the last weeks of the season after being quite subdued early on. I think the player has worked hard to adapt his game. Dembele still looks a poor fit.

I'm not sure what this argument is about. If he was giving the club what they wanted, they wouldn't want rid of him, would they? When I've watched their matches Dembele has provided one part brilliance to two parts dross. That's the wrong mixture for Barcelona. Even Suarez, a top goalscorer, gives one for one.

Is this legal?

In this market, Pjaca going for €40m + Sturaro and/or Madragora for €15m each (or Rugani for €30m) + €35-50m cash make the €105m Lotito wants, all spread over 4-5 years for accounting convenience. If Lotito gets your lump €80m sum, he must spend it in full this same year to avoid paying taxes on the capital gain. That is also the reason Juve had to buy Higuain out of Napoli for €90m with the same £89m they got for Pogba.

Interesting.

Is SMS interested in Juve?

He is rumored to like Turin a lot as a city and Allegri asked for him or Pogba to play a more effective 4-3-3 next year. I do not think United would agree a 2 or 3 years paid loan option + final buyout fee to make Juve balance happy, so...

I agree about getting a second CM and right winger. Left to me, I would sell Mata.

Very few buyers given his age, performances and wage. He’s been a poor buy in my opinion I expected so much more from a record signing. He’s a lovely guy on Twitter and I think this gets him off very lightly as his performances this season have been way short in fact pretty piss poor.

Chelsea owner is mobster and Putin ass kisser, their legendary captain is racist and screwed teammate girlfriend, their left back killed someone while drunk driving and then they supposedly back off from Sarri because he called someone faggot, yeah right

Disn’t they recently have issues with youth coaches using racist terms? That might be the reason for their political correctness now.

Completely agree, though didnt want him in the first place. Fact he comes across so well, like Herrera and has had a few crucial moments in games I think has got him off lightly over his career here. Ironically one reason I was reasonably happy getting Mourinho was I thought it would start with him selling Mata and Fellaini and he has seemed to find them important to the squad, wrongly in my opinion

As our team stands currently mata is done. He was poor last season. I can’t help but think though that he would be able to elevate his game if he was in a team that passes and moves a bit more. He’s good at finding space so perhaps playing with the likes of Fred could help his game

Has Thiago got over his injury issues or is this another case of the Caf being majorly hypocritical? I thought this place only wanted players with perfect health.
