LvG's use of him is about as crazy as it gets, sackable offence on its own really given the the circumstances.
I swear most of these deals are just pranks or lost bets. When i see the kind of transfers happening, i'm actually kinda relieved that we went for no one.
I don't know what he expected with putting Powell on, to be fair. Maybe a similar sub to the one of Krul for Cillessen in the 1/4 final shootout against Costa Rica with the media proclaiming him as genius, but all it did was make him look even more clueless.
Reckon it was likely this, if he's have scored a goal and we'd gone through he would have had fantastic press, the guy is all ego.
Bet he still regularly looks back newspaper cuttings from the Cillessen sub.
It was probably because 18 months in he's still getting to know the squad. Powell had the 'match riddim' and was not in 'the red zone', making him the only viable option at that time in the match, therefore leading to the 'process' that got us eliminated.
We'll always have the fond memory of seeing Nick Powell come on for Juan Mata with our team on the verge of exiting the CL in the group stages.
Great signing for Stoke, was very impressive at Marseille, not so much Porto though. Hope he doesn't play tomorrow.
