He's a right sided CB though. Would seem off to sign him only to replace Smalling who's just been given the captaincy.
Plays on the left with Mustafi RCB, apparently.
Otamendi, Rojo, Smalling and Jones as CB options (with MacNair staying for depth) should do the trick.

I agree. Smalling stepping up means that the addition of Otamendi would do us fine. Evans to probably leave.

Gareth Bale + Extra numbers in defence and midfield = Strong title challenge and good run in CL.
Otamendi would be a great buy. And regarding smalling, he was given the armband when all of Rooney, Carrick and Van Persie weren't starting, I'd hardly call that being 'given the captaincy'.
He doesn't deserve to be replaced though. I'd like to see us bring in a player to play next to him, not instead of him.

Absolutely, for me Smalling has made that RCB spot his own now. The question is who is going to partner him.

After the way Vidal has come back to form, he's top of my wants list again this Summer. Hopefully LvG feels the same.
