Transfer targets ready to step up

I always thought Moutinho would be a success in the PL and with Wolves he's been very much that.
Just a shame we didnt take a punt on him earlier in his career.

We were going to the year he broke his leg. Fergie sent him a letter after that happened also from what I remember. Think he was only 19/20 at the time

We did go for Hazard but SAF didnt want to pay the 6m agent fee. Chelsea paid it and he ended up with them

Yeah I've read tons of stories some saying agent fees was what killed a deal and others say it was wage demands. I have no idea what is true or not but fact remains he did not end up here and it costed us badly as he would have been the perfect replacement for Ronaldo. Still to this day we have not been able to find someone to fill the gap he left and I always get pissed thinking about the fact that we let Hazard go elsewhere.

Knockaert.
Dude turns into prime Arjen Robben everytime we face Brighton

I've got a few in mind

Chelsea - Rüdiger
Liverpool - Fabinho
Man City - Sané

I know he got a red card today, but Hojbjerg from Southhampton has impressed me every time I’ve seen him. I’m sure he’ll make the step up at some point.

Suprised no mention on Nathan Redmond for right wing. I think he has the potential to grow even better. Every time i have seen him he shows incredible work ethic, good on ball, very fast but just does not score enough. That could be worked on under Ole.

Willy boly has impressed me at Wolves, a bit old at 27 but worth a shot. Also Digne at Everton has been good at that left back spot, maybe someone to compete with Shaw.

James Maddison has been great for Leicester, not sure if he is good enough though and there has also been Ryan Fraser at Bournemouth who has been incredible.

The top two for me though would be Brooks from Bournemouth, what a season he has been having and was very very good today against us. He is young too. The other is Gibbs-White. He won the under 17s world cup with england and has hugely impressed me with his technique, desire to find a pass, work rate and composure. He is just 18 but his stock will surely go up soon. He is getting his chances at Wolves and taking them too.

I thought Hazard initially chose us but changed his mind on the 11th hour just as Robben and Mikel did. Agent fees was not the issue if i recall correctly.

Lost all three to Chelsea at the death. Kenyon was involved in the first two but I think he'd gone by the time of the Hazard transfer. Plus Chelsea were European champions at the time and that, according to the player, was why he joined them.

Redmond is always one of those players that flatters to deceive for me. He looks busy and dangerous almost all the time, but he has virtually no end product at all. For a player that spends almost his entire time as a member of a front three (either LW or RW), his goal scoring and assist record is atrocious. Granted he plays in a crap team, but his end product has always been poor from what I’ve seen. If he could sort that out, he’d be a great player. But we haven’t even seen flashes of it tbh.

No it was 100% down to agent fees. United, Chelsea, and another team all bid the same amount, but SAF wouldn’t pay such a high agent fee. SAF even said so himself. At the time the fee was considered ridiculous. But in hindsight it was obviously a poor decision to not stump up the cash. Oh well, not even Fergie got them all right.

Here's a few I think are ready to step up in the PL:

1. James Maddison
2. Wilfred Ndidi
3. Ben Chillwell
4. Declan Rice
5. David Brooks
6. Wan-bissaka
7. Walker-peters
8. Ricarlison
9. Phillip Bilong
10. Michael Obafemi

Any of these would make effective long term additions.

James Maddison looks mint, but he is just stepping up a level this season. Give him at least 2 more season to prove himself.

Chilwell is the real deal. Rice is exciting.

Others I don't really watch that much.

In defence, we need a leader and not just a good CB. I don't think think there's anyone attainable that fits the bill from the PL. We should go all out and get Koulibaly. He'll transform the entire backline like VVD did with Pool.

Ake is ready to step up if he carries on, Bournemouth do leave their defence exposed at times but he is a great player, I still find it hard to believe that Chelsea let him go.

My fear is that Liverpool will go after him in the summer.

Pretty certain we’re not in the market for another CB.

We’ve got 4 and it looks like the boss is happy with his options there. In order of preference (my opinion);

1. VVD
2. Gomez
3. Lovren
4.

Ake looks a good young player and would be a nice addition to your squad but I don’t think he’d be the vocal leader/ organiser in the backline your team needs. You’ll need someone with more experience for that.

David Brooks looks like a fantastic talent. Think he'll move for 50m or upwards in 2020 transfer window.

Wan-Bisakka is very good. Morgan Gibbs from Wolves is another excellent talent.

These are the players i'd take from lower level clubs, either for first team or squad options

Crystal Palace - Wan-Bissaka,
Bournemouth - Brooks, Ake
Southampton - Hojbjerg, Bednarek
Wolves - Ruben Neves
Fulham - Sessegnon, Thorsteinsson
Everton - Calvert-Lewin
Watford - Deulofeu
West Ham - Oxford

Just a few I can think of
His dad was my coach back in the day. He's decent but not United level and he plays the same position as Martial. He will/should be a starter for Iceland as soon as this (2019) year. It's hard to say though considering someone like Guðmundsson at Burnley who improved massively there. Went from a squad member to their most important attacker and also as important for Iceland as Gylfi so who knows.

Another player that's made a huge progress is Arnór Sigurðsson of CSKA. 2 goals in the CL this season, including a goal and assists at the Bernabeau. 2 years ago he was playing for the U18's of a club in the 2nd division in Iceland in a town of 7k. Those guys have the right mentality.

I like some other names on that list. Brooks is a good one, Aké is good. Deulofeu might be ready for the step up. Sessegnon is not a good fit for us sadly as Shaw and Martial have got that left wing locked down. We need to focus on the other flank.

We should look to Spain if we want midfielders. Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler, Pablo Sarabia, Giovani Lo Celse (Argentinian I know). I don't know why we've not been cherry picking their U21 NT.

I'm sure someone will remember better than me but wasn't Hazard also drumming up a bit of a circus via social media? Reminded me a little of a Frenchman we were keen on signing recently.

We might be able to tempt Lo Celso. PSG were willing to listen to offers for him in the summer.

Shaw hasn't got anything locked down. He's had a decent season, nothing more. I would say he's definitely someone we could improve on at a later date as things stand.

What’s the suggestion regarding Valencia? That he wasn’t a good signing?

That both fit the category of this thread. Good signings of players that were obvious to advance to better teams.

Definetly agree with the end product point but he showed flashes of it a couple of seasons ago when he bagged 7 league goals. It even led to Pep calling him out and highlighting the potential he has. Last season was terrible for him, Pep came back and said he expected more from him after a game against Southampton. In the last few weeks I have seen a small resurgence in him, i hope he powers forward because he could be very good. Like you said he needs more goals and assists and should be looking to finish this season with a combined total of 10, especially that Mark Hughes has now left.

Not from thr league but de ligt will be unbelievable in two or three years. Hes the one to sign.

I think Ademola Lookman from Everton could be an interesting signing. He's still a young player, and not first choice there, but he looks like he's got plenty of pace and skill and always seems to affect the game when he comes on. We do need a right midfielder/winger, so worth a punt I'd say.

It comes down to the manager’s style of play. What Liverpool’s done is identify players that fit Klopp, but are not necessarily brilliant players. Most of the players listed in the OP would’ve been terribly exposed in any of the other top 6 sides. Except VVD, of course, whom everybody was after, as he was already considered one of the best in the league at Southampton.

I'd love us to sign David Brooks, been class for us and Bournemouth this season.

Brooks is the one that's most caught the eye this season. I've been really impressed by how unfazed he's looked since signing for Bournemouth and the different dimension he's brought to their attacking play. I won't be at all surprised if one of the top 6 clubs go in for him in the next 18 months.
