Sammer would have been even better of course, but not possible after he was all of a sudden a 3 TP player. Don't see a problem with Bergomi in the middle though.
 
I'm starting to regret went for AM with 6pt, instead of getting 3 worldclass defenders (at 2 pts each). Good strategy by Balu/PedroM and Cutch.

Seriously though, the guy was a brilliant defender. He along with Souness were the main reason why Liverpool were so dominant in the late seventies as well as eighties.

He is one of the very very few CBs who ain't TP listed. I think 25 Million would have been the right price. But sometimes you have got to overpay to get what you want. :)

Hardly - we're just nuts enough to spend our time playing around on the Internet.

But we do follow the draft closely - unlike casual voters. And the latter category is more likely to, casually, vote for big name attackers rather than a big name defenders. They won't bother reading the tactical write-ups.

Lizarazu is a superb signing given that he's not a TP. He's right up there with the fullbacks on the TP list. That's a savage 5 man defence, lacking the talent on the ball that Sammer would have brought, but near-impregnable defensively. Tonnes of money left for reinforcements too.

Honestly I think the casual voter factor is slightly overstated. I kept an eye on who was voting towards the business end of the last draft, and the vast majority of voters had either commented in the thread, or were managers, former managers or regular contributors. Of course the odd casual voter can still be crucial. Was it Anto who got fecked over by some guy who took exception to one of his posts in a completely unrelated thread? :lol:

Hehe - yeah, that's a fair point.

Still - it seems the casual voters become lesser in numbers as the tournaments progress. So, having a team which is easy on the eye is probably more important in the first round than in the final...

Aye that's true. By the time the final rolls around both teams tend to have enough big names that any casual voters will shoot their load before actually voting.
 
This draft should change that picture, be it said - at least slightly. Because you won't be able to sport any more big names - if by big names we understand the Messi type - in the final than you will in round one.
