So far such transactions have been done smoothly - but are there any rules, really?

Deals among managers involving players already purchased officially - are left entirely to the discretion of the managers interested in the deal? Correct?

Yeah, that's how it was handled so far. You can transfer list your player and make it an open auction again, but I don't think you have to do it.

In theory we have a rule stating a player should be listed three hours minimum to allow others to raise the bid. But nobody has followed it so i have some people questioning it as they dont want to follow it as others hasnt.

We should probably make a vote about removing/keeping the three hours draft list rule

Just scrap it, most have ignored it so far and it would also be impossible to do player swaps then or at least highly complicated. How do you transferlist a deal like Giggs + 14m = Nedved ?

I think it would be good to have a clear rule in place.

Example: Balu PMs me, wants to buy Kahn. I say, yes - you can have Kahn for 15m. Balu says fine.

I post:

Balu has offered 15m for Kahn. Bid will stand for 3 hours. If nobody outbids Balu, he will have Kahn.

As long as it's announced with a 3hr deadline another manager could - in theory - come in and offer a substantial amount for Giggs alone. Which could tempt the selling manager more than the swap arrangement.

Yeah, but that's his decision and ruins hour long negotiations for the other party, who might have planned with the player swap?
 
That was the exact idea, with fees and clauses being legal but forced to be public. But some people who are yet to trade players or transfer list a deal think they got the short end of the stick as others has done deals already not following this rule.

We could start using the timelimit in the next round as we already failed in this one and cant revert the transfers that has been made?

:lol: That deal took like 2/3 whole days. Cant imagine it being played out in the thread, the rest would go mental.

We could try it in the next round, but I'm sure it's a fecking nightmare to follow in the thread :lol:.
 
I think the most pragmatic approach would be this:

Any deal between managers is announced by one of the managers in the thread.

"X has offered 25m for Y".

Or: "X has offered Nedved + 10m for Y".

Or: "X has offered Nedved in exchange for Y as a clean swap-"

Then, allow a short deadline.

I don't know, three hours seem more than enough.

If nobody has made an offer of some sort in the meantime - the deal is done.

Eh? It's a simple rule. Make every transaction public. Allow every manager to get involved up until a certain deadline.

I prefer this, let two managers do the negotiations and leave the final offer in the thread for a certain time period to see if anyone is interested.

Precisely.

Example:

MJJ asks me - either by PM or in the thread - whether I'm willing to do the following deal: Player X + 20m for Ronaldo?

I say, alright - that's a fair deal.

I post:

MJJ has offered 20m + Player X for Ronaldo. Deadline: 3hrs.

If someone then wishes to come in and offer me something better for Ronaldo, he can do that. But if he fails to do so before the deadline, Ronaldo goes to MJJ.

And there won't be a new 3hr deadline for every new offer. If someone comes in and offers me 100m for Ronaldo (without any swap) before the deadline, then I consider this offer - but I don't extend the deadline, the latter remains the same. If the original post is made at 12:00 I have until 15:00 to decide whether I want the swap deal or the 100m offer. It's entirely up to me, as the owner of Ronaldo, but I have to make a call before 15:00 - if I don't, the original deal with MJJ goes through.

But if I just want to sell a player to particular manager, why would I need to invite more bids where I won't be interested in selling the player to others?

Exactly. For example, I wouldn't sell Messi for the same price to someone who has already Xavi and Busquets in the team as I'd sell to someone who has none of his favorite team mates. Situations can be dependent on countless factors, not only on the money. Annah even allowed transfers with shared payments in future rounds. How would you include those deals in a auction?

Well, why would you just want to sell a player to a particular manager? Just to be kind? Surely you wouldn't mind announcing the bid - and having someone else come in to better it, if possible?

Yes - but you own the player. So, if for tactical reasons you don't want to sell player X to manager Y - you are free to decide accordingly. But you still have to allow a 3hr (or whatever is deemed reasonable) window for others to make a bid.

I'm not advocating an auction model here - not at all. If you prefer selling Messi to X for a pittance, rather than selling him to Y for a fortune - that's your prerogative. But Y has to have a chance to make his offer - that's all I'm saying-

This is idea behind it as well. Three hour deadline but the manager can decide himself freely to whom he decides to sell to. All fees and clauses should be official though and they are all legal whatever they are.

Just like @Balu said, there are other factors than just money. I might struck a deal on future purchase, and such. Or maybe I just like the manager and his plan with the player.

So if I make a deal with you to sell Kohler for 10m, I have to put him on auction for 3 hours, deny all the higher bids and sell him to you anyway to honour the deal we agreed on in the beginning? Why wait 3 hours and not just announce the deal in the first place?
