Not saying I think it's great But if he has faith in the youngsters then you can argue he has two in each role covered

I hope he's right however I don't share his optimism. In some areas (ex CB and RW) we're not good enough as first team level either

I've been at work til not long ago so I've missed everything - any big signings, especially in the Premier League? Did we just sign Martial? I saw Chelsea signed some bloke from Reading and Southampton signed that sweaty Dike, with West Ham making 4(?) signings too.

Wolfsburg have done well signing Draxler and Dante - excellent business.

What I used to say is that Welbeck, Cleverley, Rafael and co weren't good enough to succeed the likes of Scholes, Gaz, Giggs and co. Under such circumstances, once they retired in masse the team will collapse and we'll be in some serious trouble. We all know how that ended

No it goes back much further than that.

No it goes back much further than that.

I also believed that quality players should be replaced with other quality players either in terms of potential or talent. In fact one of my earliest skirmishes happened after the treble. With Schmeichel leaving, Irwin growing old and Johnsen and Blomqvist picking career threatening injuries I was disgusted that we were replacing them with Lidl signings such as Bosnich, Taibi, Silvestre, Fortune etc. People at that time couldn't understand the concept that for a club to stay competitive in the CL we simply must replace quality with quality. TBF most of the posters back than would have gladly shown the CL the middle finger as long as we kept on generating British talent (even if its OShea/Phil Nev level) and kept on winning in the local pond. After that, I had arguments about the defence (which prior to Rio's signing was as sensitive for SAF as CM was in his last years with us) and latter on CM.

Not that I haven't made my share of mistakes. I can be rightly accused of showing lack of patience especially with young talent. Most of the time I was right (Wallwork, OShea, Ando, PNev, the crock twins, Welbeck etc) however I did lost my patience with Fletcher and Gaz which latter on proved to become first team material. I also underestimated the old guard's longevity. If it was for me we would have started the restructuring when Giggs and co once they hit the 32-33 years of age. TBF how can anyone predict that they will be able to play good quality football till they hit nearly 40? There again, as Scholes said, something is terribly wrong when your best midfielders happen to be at the wrong side of their 30s.
