Top 4 race 2016/17

Really disappointed with this lot. Concede both early and late goals. Time to watch something else. A total waste of time, I don't know why Darmine is playing left back. Is he Jose secret weapon? Pogba is just qualify as world class yet. Lingard cannot take Miki place.

And so we move onto "it's only 8 points", how many after Spurs and Everton?

If we're in the Europa league next season I'll be really pissed off, it's of no use to anybody at all.

Put all our eggs in the Europa League basket.

Use the PL to experiment and get players to gel.

Am I right in thinking that if United finished 6th and won the Europa League, and Leicester won the Champions League then the team in the fourth Champions League spot wouldn't qualify for it?

Top four all but gone, teams above us just don't drop as many points against the fodder of this league as much as we do. All in all it's not good enough for the sort of money we've spent and some of the players we've got, Jose needs to be doing better as do the players.

We are Liverpoolizing quickly. I no longer believe there is a quick way back to the top for us. No title in the coming ten years.

Have to concentrate on the Europa. Keep ticking away at the PL, but concentrate big on Europa.

We are playing much better than last season. Just missing that clinical nature in front of goal.

There is nothing to suggest that we are anywhere near a top 4 team despite having a title-winning squad. What sets the current top 4 apart from us and the others is that they create tons and tons of clear cut chances on a consistent basis which we unfortunately do not. This is a great squad of players and I believe one of the current Managers of any of the top 4 teams would have us firing on all cylinders. We are not the unluckiest team in the PL and if the Manager comes out with this mantra again he needs to take a good look at himself. Another 2 transfer windows will not sort the problem and if Jose cannot get top 4 with this team I would really start to question his ability. I still hope that he can turn it around, but we require one hell of an effort to at least be anywhere in contention for the top 4.

The Liverpoolization was complete quite a while back. All we can hope for is that we can turn it around quicker.

Top 4? Forget it. Winning the Europa league is our only hope of being in the CL next season.

How the feck do people think we can win the Europa League? We're second in our group their to fecking Fenerbahce. We'll get dicked on by anyone half decent.

We're cooked lads. Let's just hope we can win the Europa league.

I understand being positive is good but do people honestly believe we can win Europa when we can't beat Stoke, Burnley and West Ham. Look at the teams in it:

Tottenham (ENG) (3rd Place Champions League)
Sporting (POR) (3rd Place Champions League)
Lyon (FRA) (3rd Place Champions League)
Borussia Monchengladbach (GER) (3rd Place Champions League)
Schalke (GER)
Zenit (RUS)
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)
Athletic Club (ESP)
Olympiacos (GRE)
Villarreal (ESP)
Ajax (NED)
Internazionale Milano (ITA)
Roma (ITA)

The teams listed are at least a few levels above what we can't beat.

Hate to say it again...but get Fergunson back on the helm.

Major problem is how to keep belief and momentum when we can't win games like this. Even as a fan I doubt we can win going into games, let alone chasing with 10 mins to go.

Jesus Christ! Are you serious!!!! If we were to play Stoke at home again we would probably beat them five nil. When we played them we should have comfortably beat them.

It's highly unlikely that we'll win it but it's still our best chance of being in the CL next year.

I'm not convinced we'll even get the point in Zorya we need, but if we do i expect by February Mourinho will have got at least one decent CB in and worked out what his best team is, if that's the case we might have a chance.

We're fecked then if that's how long it's going to take for him to figure that out while Conte and Pep do it within a month?

I mean, if a kid takes until the age of 10 to figure out 1+1 it's probably fair to say they'll end up closer to a retard rather than Einstein.

Chelsea are top of the league. Meaning that since we've been ...mediocre, they've:

1. Gone from CL qualification good to league winning good.
2. Had a subsequent catastrophic collapse even worse than ours.
3. Rebuilt themselves from said collapse into a good team again.

All the while we've just remained mediocre. It's really pretty depressing.

They do have a good striker though. Swap Ibra for Costa and I think we're about 8 points better off.

Broken record. We have been a 7th place side since SAF retired. Year after year and we have not progressed at all. Just can't see us getting top 4. We simply aren't good enough.

I definitely think we have a better chance in Europa, partly because once we've qualified we will be in 2 legged matches till the final. Unlike today where 2 points dropped is significant at every round, theoretically having a bad game at every round in the Europa League can be compensated for in the 2nd leg. It's just about getting through to the next round, and not getting points on the board. If we have games like today twice in 1 round then I would genuinely start questioning whether we are indeed cursed. I think Liverpool- Villarreal (Losing 1-0, followed by 3-0 win) is a good example of this.

There are some very strong teams there, whilst others look potentially tricky, but we are still on paper a class above those teams. Even Spurs who would give us a hard game in the PL, would be a different proposition over 2 legs with the away goal rule, as they've shown already in Europe this season. I'm not suggesting it's easy in any way, shape or form. I think it's suits us better though, plus Jose has a proven European pedigree.

This is a bit irrelevant to logic but it'd create a nice little subplot to the season (our league season is pretty much on life support), and I think it can be like starting a new campaign which the fans can get behind. It'd be nice to inject the buzz back into European nights at OT again. I also think this is the one trophy we are yet to add to our collection, so that's interesting too. A quick look at the league table tells me this route may be forced on to us pretty soon anyway.

i would give anything for this. I dont care if it sounds crazy. At least he should just be in the fecking dugout see if that kicks the players up the ass

Can anyone who still believes we'll get top 4 explain to me the reasons behind such a belief? I'm absolutely fascinated.

With Chelsea hitting their stride also there is just no chance

City, Pool, Arsenal and Chelsea will take the top 4 spots and we will scrap it out with Spurs and Everton for fifth if we are lucky.

You simply can not give away so many points at home to canon fodder like Bunley, WH and Stoke and expect to make top 4

Or fail to make up any points against anyone decent. Got dicked by Chelsea and City, and drew with Liverpool and Arsenal.

A string of wins over Christmas and things could easily look very different, if we can get to the new year within 5 points then we'd have a chance imo.

Everton, Watford, West Brom and Southampton can also say the same thing. It's more likely that the top 4 will continue steamrolling the rest of the league and we'll be 10-15 points behind.

Missing out on Champions League wouldn't be the end of the world imo as we are going in the right direction and Chelsea and Liverpool are doing perfectly well without it. What I don't want is the fecking Europa League again.

We are 7 points worse off than we were at this point last season :( Unbelievably poor, really. And as I said after the Chelsea loss, we're still not getting anywhere near top four this season.
