I'm looking for a new show to watch so I thought this would be a good way of finding some quality ones. So post your lists.

My list:

1. The Wire
2. Band of Brothers
3. The Simpsons
4. The Sopranos
5. South Park
6. Twin Peaks
7. Lost
8. Arrested Development
9. Carnivàle
10. Mad Men

Oz was unlucky to miss out. I nearly didn't include Lost but remembered that it had it's good moments and kept me interested for 6 years.

Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones has the potential to make the list in the future.

British Top 10....Because British TV > American.

01. Blackadder
02. Our Friends In The North
03. The Office
04. Edge Of Darkness
05. The Thick Of It
06. Brass Eye
07. Boys From The Black Stuff
08. The Singing Detective
09. Smileys People/Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
10. This Life

1. Only Fools and Horses
2. The Office
3. Auf Wiedersehen Pet
4. Lewis
5. Pheonix Nights
6. The A Team
7. Worzal Gummage
8. The Royale Family
9. Woof
10. Supergran

Edit. Forgot about Flipper and Pugwall

For kicks, American Top 10

01. The Sopranos
02. The Simpsons
03. The Wire
04. The Larry Sanders Show
05. Freaks & Geeks
06. Twin Peaks
07. The West Wing
08. My So-Called Life
09. The X-Files
10. Buffy The Vampire Slayer

The top 2 are purely natural really based on pure inspiration on everything that came after them on American soil, before the Sopranos, it was painfully obvious that British Drama was far superior to American drama and I'd say the same about comedy before and after the Simpsons. The rest....well it's just my favourites after those two.

1. The Wire
2. Arrested Development
3. The Shield
4. The Sopranos
5. The Simpsons
6. The Office (UK)
7. Firefly
8. Freaks and Geeks
9. Spaced
10. Seinfeld

Honourable mentions to Battlestar Galactica and Lost who would have made it had it not been for a severe loss of direction towards the end. Breaking Bad will definitely make the list unless it does a Lost and messes up the final act.

In the process of seeing Oz and West Wing. Both have potential to make the list.

I love Arrested Development, but I think it gets a little overrated by it's martyr-ish status sometimes.

* I don't mean Martyr, but I can't think of the one that means that without the sacrifice.

Oh yeah, Spaced, great stuff. Should probably be in my British top 10.

Something like this:

1. The Wire
2. Rome
3. Sopranos
4. Twin Peaks
5. Band of Brothers
6. The Office
7. Black Adder
8. Mad Men
9. Breaking Bad
10. The Tudors

HM: 24, Curb, Seinfeld, Extras, Freaks & Geeks, The Pacific, Peep Show, Fawlty Towers, Nip/Tuck (mostly because of the kick ass pilot)

As mentioned, too early to tell with Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and also The Borgias.

Pariah?

Sopranos
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Six Feet Under
The Shield
Dexter
Simpsons
South Park
Arrested Development
24

I agree, but I would say the people with that opinion probably haven't seen that much American TV. The Sopranos and The Wire piss from a great height on any drama we have ever made.

1. The Sopranos
2. Fawlty Towers
3. The Wire
4. The Shield
5. Seinfeld
6. Blackadder
7. Homicide: Life on the Street
8. Mad Men
9. Porridge
10. Phoenix Nights

tbh, I'd say it's more to do with that most haven't seen a lot of great British drama from yesteryear. Other than production values obviously, nothing that America has ever done "pisses with great height" over great British drama. Better? Sure...but not by that much.

I agree with you on this.

Breaking Bad has to have forced it's way into most peoples lists by now.

1. The Wire
2. Sopranos
3. Frasier
4. Seinfeld
5. Trailer Park Boys
6. Curb your enthusiasm
7. Homicide: Life on the streets
8. Yes Minister/Prime Minister
9. Father Ted
10. MOTD

Stick me on a desert island with that lot and you can leave me to die a happy man.

Seinfeld
Sopranos
Rome
Deadwood
Simpsons
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Office (US)
Spaced
The Peep Show
South Park

What's this Wire all about? I've always wanted to watch sopranos too but it'd take twelve years.

The Wire is awesome, it's about a city really (Baltimore), focusing in cops, crooks, corruption and the sort. But the star of the show is definitely the city.

1. The Wire
2. The Sopranos
3. The Thick of It
4. The Office (UK)
5. Louie
6. Extras
7. Generation Kill
8. Curb Your Enthusiasm
9. Breaking Bad
10. Luther

Just off the top of my head. I'm not going to argue that Star Trek or Buffy are the best shows ever but at the time I loved them to bits (still do).

The West Wing
The Sopranos
Deadwood
The Wire
Buffy
The X Files
Oz
BSG
24
Star Trek TNG

1) Simpsons
2) Only Fools and Horses
3) Everything else

1. The Wire

The rest:

Rome
Carnivale
The Sopranos
Arrested Development
The Office (UK)
Father Ted
Lost
Mad Men
The Simpsons

Breaking Bad will be there after the final season I'm sure. Then there's Band of Brothers, Deadwood, Spaced, South Park, so many tough omissions.

The West Wing is my number one, by a mile. Beyond that, the only show I've followed religiously is The Sopranos. All other shows I've started watching I've lost interest in somehow.. and that's a lot of shows!

1. The Sopranos
2. The Office (UK)
3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
4. The Wire
5. Marion and Geoff
6. The Simpsons
7. Blackadder
8. Brass Eye
9. Planet Earth (and all the other Attenborough shit)
10. Later... with Jools Holland

1) The Simpsons
2) Bottom
3) The X-Files
4) Only Fools and Horses
5) Father Ted
6) I'm Alan Partridge
7) Malcolm in the Middle
8) South Park
9) Fresh Prince
10) Peep Show

In roughly that order, but not exactly. Also, I probably forgot one or two obvious ones.

09. Smileys People/Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
10. This Life

This was pre torrents etc, so I reckon a lot of you will have missed it, if you have it is well worth watching.
