Tom Huddlestone

I told you guys... he is the real deal, I vehemently advocated his signing in the summer , but the ladies and gentlemugs on here laughed me off.

Yeah along with Barry or Parker.

As Ole said...Don't worry, we're still laughing.

Rather see him than Lampard in the England squad for Rio

What has he done to deserve that? We get too gassed over someone that can pass a ball. It's ridiculous.

While I agree that Huddlestone is hardly a world beater, it's pretty silly to highlight our collective praise of passing players. England's problem is that they don't get gassed enough about people who can pass a ball, hence the exclusion of players like Michael Carrick from the set up for years and the marginalization of talents like Paul Scholes or Matt Le Tissier. We prefer kick and rush footballers.

Huddlestone is an excellent technical footballer who has a great range of passing. In a 3 man midfield he can be a very useful player. He just doesn't have the mobility to play for a top club like United.

But is he so useful that he'd be worth accommodating at the expense off playing Sturridge or Welbeck through the middle with Rooney? Or provide enough to get wilshere/gerrard to sacrifice part of their games for him? No point taking a player for the squad who would need the team adapted around him to play his game. I agree that England have marginalized players who look to keep the ball too much, and I think Carrick should be a cert to play, although I highly doubt he will, but as mentioned above, Huddlestone is not in that class or player, and has yet to show he can do it against top teams. One thing doing it against someone who will leave you plenty of space to exploit, another to do it against a team that will stay more cautious.

Lampard isn't ideal and it annoys me that he is picked over Carrick when he doesn't give the right balance imo, but he can come in and play as part of a 2 and still be influential, not sure Huddlestone can.

I totally agree with you but that wasn't my point. My point was to only respond about how we view passing players.

Ah ok, fair play, I was partly responding to the comment about preferring him over Lamps as well.

He is far more reliable and a better performer than Anderson.

Anderson has more talent in his little toe. If he were at Hull and fully fit for a fairly lengthy period of time then he would outperform Huddlestone is most facets of midfield play.

Anyone that thinks Huddlestone is better than Fellaini is a fickle fecking moron of high extremity. Fellaini has pissed all over the fat cnut since he arrived in this league when barely out of his teens.

He really, really doesn't. Huddlestone technically is one of the most gifted players i've seen, if he had the physical attributes to go along with his ability he would be a world class player,

Passing the ball in a Scholes-like Kodak moment is not the barometer of technical class and ability, contrary to that general perception. Speed of thought, awareness and many other qualities are factored into things. Huddlestone strikes the ball nicely and can pick out a pass. The rest of his game is lacking. I really, really want Anderson to stay in the Premier League on his leave. I am absolutely 100% confident he would surprise many provided he maintained his fitness and got a genuine run of games.

I wasn't going to comment on this thread again but I couldn't resist. Tom fecking Huddlestone... and yes, I was exaggerating when I said Anderson had more talent in his little toe. Nonetheless, guy has a lot more to his game.

I don't see what speed of thought or awareness has to do with technical ability. You can be technically gifted but still pretty brainless, in this case i think it relates to touch, passing etc, areas in which Huddlestone is far more gifted than Anderson in. Also i wouldn't paint Anderson as someone with a great brain either if thats the route you want to go, Huddlestone has a better brain and understanding of the game than him also, apart from his boundless energy i don't see what else Anderson has over Huddlestone. If were being honest neither are United quality.

Also, if you have superb first touch and control it means you have more time to see and assess whats going on. Technically brilliant and the smarts to see and assess can with the right player make up for a lack of physical pace.

im only saying that because we know what lampard can do (well not do) and personally id like to see a change away from that older guard. I think if were winning or a striker gets injured or something similar, if we were to change to three in the middle, id prefer Huddlestone as one of them rather than Lampard for ball retention.

Not sure about Lampard in a midfield 2 for england being influential, hes hardly done it for the last 11 or so years. Huddlestone we dont know if we can so id rather see if he could though then the same ol safe option. Thats just me though.

What a load of fecking rubbish. Fellaini is almost as slow and cumbersome as Huddlestone minus all the technical and passing ability. Frankly Huddlestone's technical and passing ability puts Fellaini to shame and anyone saying otherwise is a moron of the highest order.

As for Anderson, he might have more potential but he hasn't come close to the form Huddlestone displayed for Spurs when they qualified for the CL.

There is no way Fellaini is as slow or cumbersome as Huddlestone, and Fellaini has performed at a far higher level than Huddlestone both in the premiership and international level over the last 3-4 years. Huddlestones technical ability puts most of the players to shame its up there with Scholes and Hoddle it really is exceptional but his general lack of movement is his downfall. Scholes moved quicker and further when he was in his mid 30s and his legs had gone. Huddle stone is another Andy Reid a player with exceptional talent but woeful conditioning.

No, he hasn't. Huddlestone was extremely vital when Spurs qualified for the CL and Fellaini hasn't come close to that kind of form. In fact no Spurs played more than Huddlestone in the league that season. He was superb and since then has struggled with injuries which has curtailed his development.

Basically so are people trying to imply that he's a better player than Fellaini.

I don't know who to believe anymore, Kostur. You are moron if you disagree with one of the viewpoints (Kag and akash02's) in this thread.

We're all morons! Help!

I'd rather a Fellaini - Huddlestone partnership then a Fellaini - Cleverley partnership.

I'd swap Huddlestone with Cleverley any day.
