To your eye: who are 3 the fastest players you’ve ever seen.

I was gonna say him. But he was so fast he used to just run the ball out of play
 The amount of times commentators would let you know how fast he was, yet most times he either couldn’t keep himself or the ball in control long enough to exhibit it was insane! He also used to get body checked a ridiculous amount of times.

Overmars was what Rommedhal would’ve looked like with better technique and balance!
Martins was similar in that he could rarely go through the gears without something going wrong.

He was a cheat code player on Pro Evo 3 and 4 - stick him up top and let his pace decimate any defence; pair him with Obafemi Martins and you had a lethal combo.

He was no Babangida, master league legend.

Antonio Valencia
Dan James
Gary Pallister
Alway looked like he was just going through the gears and kicking into stride, unable to get to his top speed before the pitch length proved prohibitive. Can’t imagine many from his day who could beat him over 100m.

Obafemi Martins

Yeah, he seemed like a different kind of athlete when he came onto the scene.

Walcott is the quickest I've seen live.

Jesper Grønkjær is probably the quickest Chelsea player that comes to mind (I have no idea if he was faster than Rudiger or Mudyk but in my memory, he was lightning).

I think Bale, for a time, is the one I noticed the most - like his goal against Atletico when he ran off the pitch and rounded the defender.

Traore too but not as much end product and then probably Van De Ven having seen that sprint back this year

Pato vs. Barcelona is the situation/player I always think of first in these kinds of questions.

Don't think there's ever been a faster player than Walcott?

Mbappe and Walcott.

Walker is quick but he’s mostly competing with players who have to handle the ball so appears faster than he is. In terms of raw pace he’s nowhere near an Mbappe.

Fastest runners...

with the ball in front of him, Bale
with the ball at his feet, Ronaldo Nazario
with the ball on his feet, Messi

with no ball in sight, Walker

Mbappe and original Ronaldo stand out fairly comfortably by these standards, although that's really more a question of who stood out most relative to their peers. Other obvious candidates in and around this level include Bale, Cristiano, etc.

Messi and Romario stood out for their acceleration. Kaka had both immense acceleration and top speed. (So did Eto'o come to think of it, possibly more of both).

I never really got to watch too much of him outside of international football before he broke, but Michael Owen might be worth a shout here. Same applies in principal to Pato, although I don't think he was ever quite that quick.

He was before my time, but Claudio Caniggia was meant to be quite rapid, too.

Edit: Using "stand/stood out" three times within the first three lines is genuinely shameful, and hopefuly some kind of record.

Henry- seems to glide on the pitch
Mbappe- like a road runner
Obafemi Martins/marc overmars/tony Valencia/bale/ Portuguese Ronnie/denilson (Brazilian of late 1990s)

Bale, Giggs... not sure who to put next — Valencia, Overmars, Blokhin, Mbappé, Walker, there are so many!

Players generally got a bit faster these days so on one hand you get more contemporary candidates but on the other one the likes of Blokhin in the 1970's, Boniek in the 1980's or even young Giggs in the 1990's visually stood out even more against (on average) a bit slower opposition.

Put preference on attacking players as I like to judge player's speed with the ball at their feet instead of a straight off-the-ball sprint. Luis Ronaldo has to be the most devastating fast player ever even though I'm not sure if he's going to beat Bale (or a few others) in a straight race.

Yeah has to be ronaldo, there's that somewhat exaggerated quote about him running faster with the ball than without it but as exaggerated it may sound it does convey the impression one would get when watching him, he was fast insanely so and when he got going you never thought there was a defender in the entire world capable of catching up to him.

David Odonkor, Ivica Olic and Robben.

Acceleration: Ronaldo
Top Speed: Bale
Overall: Henry and Mbappé

Odonkor at the WC. Walcott in the PL. CL probably Mbappé.

Don't like these too speed measures. It's mostly defenders because midfielders and attackers usually don't have to run mindlessly as fast as they can far enough to reach top speed (you need like 50-60 meters for that). Training numbers provide a better estimate.

There was this Latvian forward whose name for the life of me I cannot place. But he was proper rapid.

Adeyemi at Dortmund is quick.

Dalot and Rashford are both quick in our squad.

Valencia was absolute rapid, I remember some ridiculous recovery runs where he would make up 15m+ on an opponent like it was nothing.

Odoncor, Walcott, Aubameyang.
