To win: FA cup or EL?

100% EL - Folks, we can't even buy players and getting into the CL will definitely help with some of that from both a cash and a draw perspective.

At what point are you just a Liverpool fan?

If Liverpool have won the League Cup, have the league wrapped up, are in the CL final... are you genineuly telling me you would rather United win the Europa League final instead of beating Liverpool in the FA Cup Final?!

I extend this question out to everyone that's saying EL...

All my eggs have been in the Europa League basket since this season started. At the time I thought we would have the quality to win it, now I would say we are heavily reliant on luck. The FA Cup, I don't give us much of a chance.

And it will stop one of our rivals from winning it - I agree with you though, Europa League is the bigger target but we should be aiming for both and to finish as high as possible in the table.

A good end to the season, even if it means finishing 8th could bring some positivity into next season.
I don't think Palace or Everton are likely to go far

So the choice would be to win the smaller title which gives a worse perspective for next season and the opportunity to give Liverpools season a small dent, or win the bigger title and better perspective?

What is more important to you, success for United or failure for Liverpool?

I would decide for United.

I’d
Does that drop in salary count for consecutive seasons without CL football? Very much doubt it - no-one would agree to that. Especially at a club like ours that now only rarely gets into the CL.

To answer OP, Europa all day.
I’d of thought the drop in salary is concurrent and literally if we don’t quality you lose, cause club would also have to factor it into their accounts

Absolutely this!! It helps not having the Champions League rejects demoted this year so think there are only a handful of realistic winners of the competition (Lazio, Spurs (don't laugh!), Bilbao, and Us)..We should be all in on this

Europa League obviously.

We need the CL money badly.

Edit:

Feck it. Let's just win both!

I'd agree I've said the EL is the one to go for you new the league form is rubbish, this side can play one off games they've shown it already.

FA Cup - Would mean that Liverpool/City etc don't win it... and I'd also probaly rather we were in the ELthen CL next season - we're not ready for CL football.

The cash for CL football would be good though I suppose.

Your last sentence is the only thing that's important at the moment - go to be EL over FA Cup

Plus we have won domestic cups recently, getting towards 10yrs already since José's bought us the Europa trophy

Although having inexplicably weakened our squad in this transfer window, seems the board don't think we have a chance anyway !

I mean Liverpool winning a quadruple and having the single most succesful in England's history is something I'd rather avoid like the plague.

Our success going forward is not contingent on qualifying for the CL (and in this scenario, we get to be succesful at Liverpool's expense anyway). In fact if this club is even budgeting for CL football next year then I would be concerned.

Europa, gives Champions League and is more prestigious if we are looking to recruit in the summer

I get it. I disagree because I think that CL football is more important than you do, but overall I think it's a valid opinion to prefer protecting club records from the past

EL is pretty obviously more important and the reward is bigger...... and it's actually probably easier to win that the FA Cup.

Really wouldn't put money on us to win either though. Not confident in us going in to any game right now, regardless of opposition

They won't win the quadruple. League yes but chances are somebody dumps them out of the FA cup and/or Champions League.

Hopefully Spurs can finish the job in the league cup.

The money from champions league would help us the most, but you just know we’re going to have to play a Spanish team at some point so we’re screwed.

If you offer me a definite EL win vs a definite FA cup final win and only one is possible, obviously I'll pick the EL win.

What you describe seems to me to be a sad way to support one's football club. But to each his own.

FA cup provides more prestige and should be seen as a more major, more difficult to win trophy I would say. Europa League is more important for clubs not in the CL as it gives a route to get into the CL which is still the biggest appeal of it. We just won the fa cup so it's not so important to us while getting CL football next season would be huge

Europa League by far, for CL qualification. I understand the argument that having no European football next season would give the squad more training time, but training a system is what pre-season is for, and I don't think we would survive financially without any European football.

Europa League. It would be a decent platform for Amorim's first season, should be semi achievable and provides us with our only opportunity for Champions League football next season.

This shouldn’t even be a question. Obviously the EL. Gets us back into the CL and helps our transfer budget.

I spend most of my time worrying what Liverpool are doing this season.

There's a fairly decent chance they could win everything.
No point worrying about them. They won’t win everything. They probably won’t win the CL. They got close to the end of every trophy a few years ago and then went out of every single one. Only thing there most likely to win is the league and the league cup.

Neither. I genuinely think a season with no European football would be best for Amorim and the squad

In order for Amorim to succeed we will need to spend 250m+ buying him the players he needs to make his system work and without European football we wont be able to afford anywhere near that, our summer spending is reportedly reliant on players leaving as it is.

We desperately need the money from European Football next season so if we lose to Leicester on Friday then the best option will probably be to let Ruben go and hire someone who'll give us a chance of winning the Europa League.
