The best players are the best from a very young age.

I don't see it personally in TFM, really poor decision making a lot of time and as you said, very rash. Hope he can make it but only a very select few can make it at Man Utd. Saying that, Jesse Lingard can so anyone can.
So really, you're talking rubbish

Evra, Irwin, Vidic, Keane, RvN?

Tbh the examples are endless really, it's just a BS statement.

It was a very odd statement from MeUnited + TFM was a very good player for his age when we got him.....(best is subjective anyway)

Even Rio who had potential at very young age was prone to mistakes. He had an almost flawless WC alongside Sol Campbell which I think prompt United to buy him. Even then he still susceptible to loss of concentrations and odd mistakes.

So the supposed notion that ALL the best players was the best in their age group since very young age is rubbish really.

Where was Ribery before Bayern? Drogba? Some TOP players didnt start as stars from very young age.

Having said that, TFM has the physical attributes and aggression and tenacity to be a top defensive player. Still need to improve on some of his decision making and positioning though.

Keane and Vidic where highly rated from young, the others I agree.

Keane at 18 was at Cobh Ramblers. Writing letters to every pro club he could think of. How highly rated could he be at that point? TFM at 18 was playing for Manchester United.

Vidic at 18 on loan to Spartak Subotica.

18 is hardly the cut off for young

Think you've missed the original post I replied to. The poster argued that if you're not great at TFM's age you never will be.

Hence me bringing up what other club legends were doing at the age TFM started playing for us.

I make this point quite a bit. The majority of the world's best footballers weren't blitzing it at 18. Those who were are a very tiny minority.

Playing in a World Cup final as far as I can remember....

I agree with your general point. However we know there have been loads of 18 year old at United who haven't made it, I don't think just being at United necessarily puts you ahead of others.

The original poster said very young age, Keane/Vidic were highly regarded by 19/20, which I would consider a very young age, and the age Fosu Mensah is now.

Think you're being a bit pedantic about this. Again Keane at 19 was playing for Cobh Ramblers writing letters trying to get a pro contract. To say he was highly regarded at that point simply isn't true. I think it's fair to say the lad being selected for the Manchester United first team is ahead. In the thread you highlighted Vidic was 21 at the time. TFM as a future potential player for us is being written off at 17/18/19.

If you're talking about Keane and Vidic at 21/ 22 fair enough. But let's allow TFM to reach that age before we draw comparisons.

I don't want to be pedantic, but Keane made his Forest debut at 19 and was a 1st team player all that season, impressing people.

I know less about Vidic but he was one of Red Star's youngest ever captains and I'm sure he was a 1st team regular from 19/20 as well. Both moved for national record fees by the time they were 23/24. I just don't think you can class them as people who weren't rated very young.

It doesn't actually matter, as the general thrust of the argument is bang on.

Again the poster in question was talking about teenagers. Not early 20's.

How much did you know of Keane as an 18 year old?

Absolutely nothing, but at 19 he was starting in div 1 vs Liverpool.

I think defenders are the hardest to identify as future great players from a young age, as they rely on maturing and getting rid of mistakes to become great. A young attacker will show his technical level, which you rarely see improving greatly after players turn 20. Although you get "surprises" like Kane, I think there are more defenders in that group, such as Pepe, Boateng, Hummels, Chiellini, Bonnucci, Barzagli, Koscielny. Although I'm not familiar with all of their careers at a young age I don't believe I ever heard about them as wonderkids.

Boateng were great for Germany at the U21 tournament in Sweden 2009. So classy.

TFM played 70 minutes today against Watford. Great pace and didn't let Richarlison go past him once. Put in one great cross for Loftus-Cheek and was generally decent. Seemed to get injured and was subbed off.

Chielini and Boateng were thought as wonderkids. Alongside Kompany. That is why many were taken aback when Boateng struggled at City.

What kind of injury? He's been active on social media and nothing about the injury, I guess it's nothing serious. Good to hear he had a good game against Richarlison, lets hope Scrat continues to play him otherwise we should call him back.

Did he play right wing back last night?

Looks like his career has stalled, he needed to go somewhere where he'd play every week in his best position which is centre half.

If we have any hope in TFM making it at United, lets hope he develops as a RB. At CB we have so much talent I don't think he will have a sniff.

Possibly but I just don't think he has the qualities to be good enough to be a first choice United right back.

I’m surprised he wasn’t our starting RB this season. He looked pretty promising to me and eventually he could move in to the CB role.

Could've been cramp. Didn't look too serious but ha sat down and got treatment, walked off when he got subbed. Hopefully he'll be okey, needs to play badly because he's still quite raw.

Can't see him being a first choice right back for United. It's CB or backup RB I think.

Did OK last night, didn't do well for Watford's goal but handled Richarlison reasonably well overall. His pace gets him out of trouble as his positioning is definitely suspect and he doesn't offer much going forwards...
pretty much what everyone already knows really. His current level is backup for Joel Ward at Palace IMO, but at least he's getting games.

Apparently hamstring injury. Our defenders and injuries, season after season, even when not in the our team

Bit of talk that we may be looking to send TFM back to you in January, Roy is after a GK, CM and ST and it's unlikely we've got the wonga to buy all 3 and will need to free up the loan space. Would be a shame but understandable I suppose, we desperately need another striker.

I've read a Palace-forum and think you guys are being pretty harsh on him. I think it was Cabaye and another player who missed the ball due to a misunderstanding, so it ran past all the players and he, understandably, wasn't ready for the cross and couldn't get close to Richarlison in time. Overall it's kind of harsh to blame someone for a goal for letting a cross in the box. I agree with his positional sense though, that's why he needs to play more, to get more experience. It's not like Joel Ward is offering much going forward either, and defensively he's a good header of the ball, has good positional sense and experience but he's slow as feck.

Shame but as you say, understandable. Would be more than happy if he came back as cover for AV, offers more than Darmian and Young has currently got the LB spot locked down.

I hope this is true because...
1) TFM is a better defender than Darmian
2) I want more ManUTD youth players on the main squad

Hey, so now that it's been noted by both Crystal Palace AND Manchester United that Timothy is the fastest player on both squads, can we raise his FIFA speed rating?

:)

I'd happily take TFM back.

Blind and darmian have show their limitations and deserve to be sold in Jan, while we have shortages in midfield due to injuries. TFM is a great utility player than can cover a few positions and i think he will get some decent game time for us.

Be interesting to see what his best position will be. Personally I see him as a defensive midfielder
