Because Aurier is one of the 2-3 best right backs in the world, if not the best

Bold statement for someone who isn't even 1st choice at PSG and regularly has off-field problems. He is a good player, no doubt but 2-3 best in the world? Highly doubt that. He wouldn't even be our 1st choice, so by your logic Valencia must be 1-2 best RB in the world?

Personally I think we have adequate cover for there and we don't need to risk it with Aurier

Should be able to compete with the other players at Palace. And they got a new coach, so hopefully if De Boer loans him he will remain there for a full year. Zaha is hitting form and Benteke is stable, so I don't think he'll be replaced.

Beyond Valencia our full backs are shit, so yeah we do need to "risk it with Aurier"

Would rather keep him and rotate him with Valencia.
There's a lot to like about Fosu-Mensah -- he's ridiculously fast, very strong, and very good in one-on-one scenarios. However, the rest of his game is lacking, and it will not suddenly improve by upping his appearance minutes from 323 in all competitions last year to say, 600 this year. He needs consistent game-time, and that's something we just simply cannot provide -- as it stands he's 8th choice CB and probably 3rd choice RB. A loan at a relatively stable club like Palace with a manager who is not only Dutch but is fond of youth players like De Boer makes very good sense on paper. Let's hope it works in practice.

We really don't, and if we were in the market for a RB Aurier wouldn't be the best option out there.

However transfer targets are difficult to acquire and PSG have upgraded with Alves so I understand Aurier would be available. He cant enter the UK and is has off-field issue's, but yeah we should go all out for him. Makes sense

His off-field problems doesn't make him any worse as a footballer. How do you know he won't be our first choice if he comes? I'd say him and Valencia will rotate, and who gets to play the big games depends on how well Aurier adapts. Aurier is 24 and Valencia is 32. If we buy him it'll be as a future replacement for Valencia and not as a backup player as you seem to think.

I think TFM will make the most of this and get a good season of minutes under his belt. Good move for all parties imo.

I just hope he gets a fair few games in midfield at Palace. I see a lot of Kante in him and think he can be an amazing ball-winner and carrier in midfield once he settles.

Yea why put some trust in him and give him minutes this season, God knows he aint any worse then seniors out of form. Better to loan him and then sign that dickhead moron from PSG.
While I agree with your general sentiment and I also dislike Aurier as a person, he is a hell of a full back.

I'd hope so too, I think Jose knows last season was a waste for him really and as talented as TFM is he still has nervous moments, regular first team football will iron those sort of moments out of him. I think he'll come back a much better player next summer.

I don't like this. Who will be backup to Valencia now? Mensah has shown more attacking quality than Darmian and having Darmian and Blind as fullbacks in same game just feels very bad for me.

I guess Young and Shaw will likely play when they get back, but I do feel we will be very light to start the season.

Over the course of last season, I saw some rewriting of his performances the season before, with people saying he wasn't that good. For me, and the consensus on the caf at the time - he was brilliant when he broke through, and I have high hopes for him. He showed more ability on the ball that year than he showed under Jose for whatever reason too.

That performance at White Hart Lane was a standout too, and if he didn't get injured in that game, we firstly wouldn't have lost 3-0, and he'd also had gotten more starts. He had already displaced Darmian in the team then, and when the change was made, we fell apart and conceded all 3 down his side.

He was also excellent at Upton Park in the cup.

Think this is the perfect move for both United and TFM. He'll get the chance to play centrally at Palace, either at CB or CM, and that'll really help his game. Excellent decision by the club.

He was never direct back-up in the first place.

FDB is a much better manager for a young player's development. Hope it goes well

Wish people would stop saying see how he is at the back, he's a dm. That's his main position he plays , he was just used by lvg and Jose in another because he's diverse.

I don't understand what makes you so certain of this?

It's his natural position, it's the position that he played before coming into the senior team.
Huh? He mostly played centre back. Was playing full back, both sides, just prior to his first team call up by LVG. Joyce played him in midfield a few times, even as a #10. But he was not naturally a centre midfielder in our reserves and did not mostly play there for them.

This is a very good move for him, but I'm not sure it was the right move for us unless we get more cover in.

If he gets about 18 above starts and subs there over all cup tournament, i guess its a very good exposure for him. Might come back and challenge valencia or matic hopefully. Depending on his positional development.

Hope he goes on to have a good season. Who's their regular rb? Assuming he'll be playing there
According to some palace fans on reddit, de Boer has been playing with 3 at the back, and Andros Townsend has been playing as RWB.

So could see TFM playing as either RWB or the right sided CB.

Valencia, Young and, in need, even Darmian. That's plenty of cover, no need get paranoid.

I get a positive vibe from this. I feel he'll get a fair few chances there.

Hopefully this works out better than our loan moves for players as of late.

Hope he plays as part of the back 3 rather than RWB.

Loans are always a lottery. He could have a season like CBJ had, or (hopefully) one like Pereira had.

He needs game time no question though. A loan is probably best

Hope he gets game time. I believe he has great potential, would be sad to see that wasted on Crystal Palace's bench.

Tuanzebe too.

Its great when someone voices exactly what you are thinking and all you need to do to voice in on the matter is saying I agree. ;) Good move for him all things considered.

If the injuries won't get him, Palace will probably want to keep him.

Well they can feck off, his arm nearly fell off after a lunge he made making a last ditch tackle in a Manchester derby to stop City scoring, he is one of ours ;)

Which is a well thought out plan and rigourous grooming and preparation for a long and successful career at a top club.

The onus is now on Fosu Mensah to get his head down and prove he is worthy of such investment and development.

from what I saw last season, he is currently nowhere close to be worthy of regular game time at United. Though msucular and strong, he looks raw and his positioning is clumsy at times. De Boer is techically first class so TFM will leran lots and develop quickly if his attitude is right and he works as hard as he possibly can.

I agree, he appears to have regressed from his first season and has not had a great pre season either. He wont get better without playing though and as you mention De Boer is a good coach for young players so in theory this is a great loan move. Lets hope it pans out alright for TFM

That's actually very original and sophisticated argument against his loan and sacrificing himself for other club than United.

Great move, this. TFM needs to work on his positioning and discipline but he can only do that playing regularly at the top level.
