Time to stand by Rangnick

I think he's the best thing we've done in years. I love his no-nonsense, no player is bigger than the club approach to running the team. Pogba wants to leave? No big deal, give your best till the summer, play for a fat contract and get the feck out. Rashford's team want a new challenge? Well too bad, the window's closed, maybe he can find something in the summer. Ronaldo's happiness? Haven't talked to him recently.

Has to move on as a manager because it's clear he has some man management issues and not everyone's pulling in the same direction in the dressing room. I assume a lot of players will even be happy to see the back of him when he moves up (Rashford, Shaw etc). I assume as a consultant he'll ruffle feathers internally and point fingers at coaches, members of the staff who he thinks aren't good enough for their job. As long as he's got Murtough's ear, I don't see how anyone can do anything about it.

However, this 6-8 month stint means he'll have a crystal clear idea of how good each member of the squad is and his input will be really useful for rebuilding the squad.

.
He is way more than a half-decent coach. He was succesfull everywhere he was coaching, but he took on a broken squad mid-season. I actually think his second season would be highly successful, if they also give him some opportunities to change the squad a bit

I am well aware of his career, he is a half decent coach and a genius at club building.

P.s. This "broken squad" finished second in the best league in the world last season under someone who most people on here think is a rubbish manager then added Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo. We need improvement but people far too easily ignore just how much talent is in our squad.

It doesnt matter how shite we are/become during the rest of the season/next season I will support any manager over this bunch of players.

Its time for them to step up.

I still think he can do more 'coaching' wise. I expect more from our team and I don't think he's exactly galvanised the squad in the ways I'd like to see, although I do acknowledge there are fundamental issues with the players.

However, everything else that he has communicated in words has been impressive. If he is able to act and have authority to make decisions (higher up), then I'll be more than pleased to have him in the club structure.

I like him, but UTD fans are so scared of making actual decisions. He isn't fantastic so far. However this is what we always do. We needed him to give us time to decide our next manager. When his time is up, he should go. Simple as that. Just like Hiddink did for Chelsea.

I stand by Ralf, who has done a great job as interim manager. Standing by him means supporting him in this job and in his transition to consultant, which I hope means a meaningful role in righting this ship.

I agree he's not suited to being the permanent manager of Manchester United, but he absolutely needs to be empowered to guide the vision of the club in his consultancy role.

If the board can't back him to do that then it's a clear signal they're still just more interested in not rocking the boat of a sinking ship, rather than throwing dead weight overboard to stay afloat, get the ship to safety, make the necessary upgrades, and get to where we should be aiming to be which is genuinely contending for leagues and in Europe.

The only thing letting him down is the players and the fitness of some of them is embarrassing. He’ll probably be blamed for losing Pogba on a free knowing our lot but that’s another story.

If u asked me, I rather Rangnick to be our DOF instead of Murtough. He has real experience of building a club.

What we have seen so far is only his coaching which he has done ok. But he is more well known for building a club structure, implementing a style of play and spot young emerging talents. That is where his real worth is. We need his help in order to stop wasting money on people like Maguire 80m, AwB 50m, Fred 50m, and etc.

I respect him and feel he has done some very good things that were long overdue in this club yet I feel he can be too inelastic at times , that City game was a travesty and I don't what was going on his mind to set us up that way, we were obviously not the favorites in that match but to lose in manner we did is embarrassing.

Today he seems to have given ronaldo's greater prerogative in a more free roaming type of role so hopefully it's the start of him and us turning a corner.

Anyone who watches our matches will realise the quality has increased significantly since Rangnick arrived. Under Rangnick you realise a lot of time we’re unlucky not to win 3-4 nil, before we were always lucky not to lose 3-4 nil until our luck run out.

He should be given an important role in the running of the club. He speaks sense and has pedigree in this regard.

Hopefully we give him a key role and let him be ruthless. Enough of pandering, shitting ourselves and taking safe/stable decisions.

My worry is that the "consultancy" gig is a nothing job and was only agreed because he wasn't otherwise going to leave a 3-year contract in his DoF role in Russia for just a 6-month job here... so they just agreed to keep in on the payroll for as long to make up the difference.

I hope there's more substance to it than that because he talks a lot of sense, and has definitely got us performing a hell of a lot better with with a squad that isn't particularly suited to his style of football at all (and no signings of his own), even though the results haven't been the best.

We've been in deep shit for ages. We know the players and their attitude is one of the main problems. Now we have the guy who is not afraid to call them out on it. Why not give him a chance? let's shake things up for once. Doing the same thing over and over won't yield a different result. We know it's the only way to get out of this mess if we stop putting on a blinder and see current ManUnited for what it is. If you fancy nostalgia though you won't like Rangnick.

I think he genuinely has players worried and they are trying to muscle him out before he gets to have a chance to have a say on their future. More power to him. Some of these players are holding on by the skin of their teeth. I loved what I saw today but we are the biggest club in the country. This should be every week. What Fred and Ronaldo did should be every players mindset but it just isn’t.

Given his humble coaching pedigree
And given the pedigree of assistants he was able to hire
And given the disgusting attitude of some of our players
And given that this squad isn't his selection
And given he wasn't able to hire

I think he's done a great job

I'm sure somewhere out there is a league table of the premier league since Ralf - and I'm sure we are in the top 3 or 4

RR is doing a great job as an interim considering he was given zero support in Jan's transfer window. I hope the board is willing to support him when he moved to advisory role.

The squad needs to be dismantled and rebuilt.
I will be dismayed if the same people that have left us in this mess are put in charge of it. This club needs Ralf to move upstairs

With the results he has, I don't think there's any chance he'll get given the job permanently. Not that I think he's done a bad job, it would just have needed much better results for him to have any real chance of that.

I like the guy a lot, and obviously his approach to press conferences makes for a refreshing change from OGS (where you always had to brace for no content, even if you accepted that was a strategic choice). I think it's good in this situation that the players aren't sheltered too much, and he manages to do that without coming across as spiteful, vindictive or self-centred. He's just reasonable.

I quite like the idea of him getting a DoF-like position, but for that to work depends on the next manager. If his ideas of how to play aren't along the same fundamental lines as Rangnick's, it's hard to see that working.

Fk Ronaldo. This is exactly a prime example of this thread. If he fkd off to Portugal without permission which seems likely since no one is denying it then he can fk off as well. He comes back and plays in beast mode and now its all Ronaldo the genius. He should never be dropped. He's not the problem. We love you! No fk you. Ralfs playing it as nicely as he can. I think his post match interviews says it all - 'Im not going to talk about the past''. 'Ronaldo played well but its about the team'. He never denied it and he tried to put a halt to the Ronaldo show. We are bigger than one player. Thats one of the the cornerstones of Manchester United. No matter who it is. If Ralf needs to drop him he gets dropped. If we loose 4th and Champions league because of it then so be it but its on Ronaldo not Ralf.
If its a nonsense story then sorry Ronaldo but this is a prime example of what Ralf is having to put up with. How are you supposed to manage a team where the players just piss off when they want to and throw strops in the media. Probably a lot of stories are made up but some of them are true

I fully back him. Performances have improved under him. I back him for that reason. I also like that he's honest, but doesn't come across as toxic. He speaks well in interviews. I'm 100% certain that he won't get the job, but I would be happy if he did.

If the leaks have been correct, and a bunch of these players don't like him, that says a lot about them. Keep him here and let him ship out whoever he thinks needs to leave. Too many of these players have not been good enough for too long. They took the piss under Ole, and are now upset that they have to actually work. feck them.

I think the performances have been decent, we were really in a low point when he took over and it is not easy to turn it around.

He has steadied the ship a bit, but it was always a uphill battle to simply turn it all around immediately, though our results have improved.

I personally want him more as an advisor role though, even though I think he won't be a bad option as a manager, but him as an influence on the board and someone like Ten Haag as manger would be the best scenario.

My only complaint is that he is not more ruthless sometimes, but that is it.

Completely agree.
He immediately identified the need for midfield strengthening and got no backing.
He is astute and knowledgeable and a clear thinker. Just what the club needs to give it the direction it desperately needs.

Ralf is doing alls he can with these bunch of players. Decent job so far… we will hopefully see massive improvements when he moves upstairs. Will ralf have the final say in signings in the summer or will that still be down to the new manager? I know ralf is trying to implement a pressing style so we will surely be targeting a manager that also likes to press right? Ralf was interested in signing haidara in January so when he moves upstairs will it be a case of giving the new manager a list of players and letting them decide if he wants them or not?

I don't, this 6 month stint was always going to be a hiding to nothing for him, even if he was a top manager (which no one ever thought), how can he be expected to change much in a sqaud brim full of wet blankets, and has beens, with no help in January, losing the brightest young player we had, whilst also letting 3 players go for the greater good, all whilst trying to implement a new philosophy on the club.

He's done ok imo, but if we are ever going to see the benefit of Rangnick it'll be from this summer onwards, that is if he is allowed to make some proper decisions, otherwise it'll all be for nothing.
Yes agree with you. Once they stopped him bringing in the midfielders he thought he would be able to get, you knew the brief was just to get to the end of the season and hopefully finish 4th.
I hope his consultancy is listened to and is not just for show, as nothing surprises me with this club anymore

Looks like he could be ETH number 2 if all goes to plan

People don't know how good he is, particularly long-term. Unless United can sign Ten Hag or Tuchel, you should keep him as a manager. Imo there are not many managers out there of his calibre. But the club also would need to back him to shape the squad accordingly. Rangnick is good at building philosophies, ie getting the right players and the right manager.

I think the club plays definitely better than under Ole, but overall it's still the same players, let's keep that in mind.

I don't understand why he wasn't given cash to strengthen this January. Bizarre.

Agree with the OP. An interim manager was the right move and what is better then letting Rangnick- our new Sport Director - and Fletcher get some dirt under their nails first; be close on the players and get a good understanding of our problems.

It’s very interesting that we are so unorganised on the pitch even under Rangnick “the organiser”. Makes me believe that no manager is able to organise the bunch off players we have in our existing squad.

Talent is one thing, expressing it on the pitch and giving 110% is another. I would rather have a team who puts in an effort every week than a team full of players with big ego's and just give up.

Finishing 2nd. Not really much of an achievement when you consider Spurs sacked their manager, Chelsea sacked their manager and Liverpool had a defensive injury crisis for half a season.

Also, who gives a shit about 2nd 3rd or 4th if you're still miles off City regardless? He was two years into the role and couldn't cut the gap on the leaders nor win any silverware. That was quite the step back from even Jose who could get 2nd himself (with 81 points by the way) and win a cup.

United only finished second due to Liverpool and Chelsea's bad performances. This was the outlier, at no time was United truly the second-best team in terms of fundamentals.

I've been accused, among other things
Of doing most of my writing for you haters
But I did write a song special for you guys too
Don't go away feeling slighted
This is special for you

Sometimes it's hard to be a fan
Giving all your love to just one man(ager)
You'll have bad times, and he'll have good times
Doin' things that you don't understand

But if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh, be proud of him
'Cause after all, he's just a man(ager)

Stand by your Ran
Give him some hope to cling to
And something warm to come to
When European nights are cold and lonely

Stand by your Ran
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your Ran

Stand by your Ran
And show the world you love him
Keep drinking all the Kool-Aid you can
Stand by your Ran

Rangnick has been getting some sht about the performances recently and everyone wants him gone in summer. There are also people like Mica Richards saying his reputation will be damaged when he moves upstairs and why did we hire an interim etc. But I think now is the time the fans should stick by him and support him. He is neck deep in this pile of infested sht that is Man Utd and we, the fans should support him while he tries to squeeze the pus and sht out. Thats the only way we are ever going to get out of this never ending circle of mediocracy. Even if another manager comes in then these fkn useless bunch of clown footballers that cant even be arsed to put up a fight against our rivals City need to be knocked off their fkn perch. Its going to be ugly. Its going to be brutal. We might come 8th next season. Who knows. But its a cancer running through every part of our club and we cant stand for it any longer. It makes me sick. If you cant be fkn arsed to fight or the badge then there's the door. I dont care if your name is Rashford or anyone else. Fk off. Rangnick is doing Gods work and no matter what happens I will always hold him in the highest esteem for coming to help us and wading in neck deep in this fking sht show that is United.

Good point, everyone is jumping for joy today because Ronaldo scored a hatrick and Spurs got beat.

But where was Ronaldo the week before? and would City defenders stand back and watch as he fired goals past them ? (no, they would not).
