Time to panic buy?

We need to bring at least 2 other players in (CB and DM) but its equally important to get some of the thrash out. Its time the players would learn that you cant get away from results like that.

I would hardly view any purchase as a panic buy. We have known all windows we need another CB and a CM, since all the way back at the beginning of the window. We are likely to overspend now for leaving it so late, but it won't be a panic buy.

Time to sell, more like. So many wank players who need to go. Trouble is they are getting paid handsomely so not only will they not want to go but other clubs ain't gonna even bother due to wage demands. We shot ourselves in the foot hard.

Agree, I can't really see us shifting any of our deadwood in the enxt week. Perhaps hernadez, but other than that I don't see us selling anyone. They will all basically be stuck here until contracts run out or we loan them out and cover the wages

I think Welbeck will also go, yes I class him as deadwood.
Anderson will go out on loan along with Zaha and Powell.
Blackett and Wilson will stay with squad but the likes of James and Keane will be playing reserves or also loaned out. If I was LvG I would offer Evans (who just oozes turd)and cash for Vlaar. Proven in the prem and under van Gaal. Go all out for Hummels or Varane next summer.

Our defense has become so useless that i'll be happy to see vlaar signs for us. Never thought about this a few months ago.

Some fans will moan like feck if we buy Blind or any other non 'World Class' player. We are in a bad way at the moment, we need players who can create stability, it doesn't necessarily have to be a superstar.
Yes yes yes. We have always had players who could come in a do a bloody good job when needed... I thinking John O Shea, JS Park, etc. Not world class players but you could count on them to put a shift in. What we have now is a whole heap of players who are supposed to be better than the names I've mentioned (and lets face it we could easily name 20 similar players over the last 15 years) yet their performances are terrible when they are needed.

Too many people think Football Manager translates to real life. Press a couple of buttons, buy players, win a football match.

If panic buy mean bringing quality Defenders and DMs then yes we should panic.

I'm glad my post gave you an orgasm, no charge this time.

How do we need a CB? You think we should stick with 352 then and bench Di Maria who has basically no position in it after we've signed a CM too?

Before we panic buy dont we need to panic sell

presumably players we bring in are likley to be over 21 and isnt there s 25 man squad limit - and we currently have these players 21 or over so

sell sell sell...

1 De Gea
2 Lingaard
3 Amos
4 Johnson

5 Rafael
6 Rojo
7 Jones
8 Smalling
9 Evans
10 Vermijl
11 Keane

12 Fletcher
13 Carrick
14 Cleverly
15 Herrera
16 Anderson
17 Fellaini
18 Kagawa
19 Mata
20 Lingard

21 Valencia
22 Young
23 Zaha
24 Di Maria

25 Rooney
26 Van Persi
27 welbeck
28 Hernandez
29 Keane

being realistic at least 5-6 need to be sold or go on loan if we are to bring in a midfielder (or two) and a centreback - and given that we have shaw, janauzaj and wilson likley to get games and only 36 games plus fa cup left to go we can certainly get by with a much trimmed down squad and you could easily loose 10 players from the list above without too many problems and just buy in a couple more quality signings.

With 6 days to go in the transfer window though getting 10 out and two in is two deals a day and that simply does not seem realistic

Agreed - we need to sell cheech and promote Wilson, get in a defensively-capable CM then sell one of Anderson or Cleverley (the former), bring in a CB (seems unlikely now due to Rojo and no new links).

We've got the numbers but when shit hits fan they all seem either unavailable or shit. Id say we should play 4-3-3. Rafael, Valencia can cover the RB role, Evans, the new guy, Jones and Smalling the CB role and Rojo and Shaw the LB role. Its not as clear cut as described. For example Evans can move to LB, Rojo to CB and Jones to RB as needed. You might mention Reece James or Micheal Keane. I believe that the team is in shambles that we can't afford giving youth a chance. We need to go back to basis, get the simple things right, win a couple of matches and only then we can consider bringing some kids in.

After this season ends we can re-assess the team. Anyone who for one reason or another hasn't performed and had been doing so for quite some time should be shown the door. Honestly I am fed up of the hype surrounding some of the players we have. If they can't perform on the pitch AND on a regular basis then they might as well feck off.

Rojo is first and foremost a center half though. He played there for Sporting and that's the role we have bought him to perform I believe.

As I said, its not as clear cut as I said.

Our first aim should be

a) stop the defense from leaking a ridiculous amount of goals
b) to reduce the number of players playing out of position
c) to reduce our reliance on youths. Its not the right time to introduce youths as the team is in shambles

If that is achieved with Rojo and some new guy as CB, Rafael on the right and Shaw on the left then so be it. The rest can act as cover. Any combination that can achieve that goal should should be encouraged and we should stick to that combination. The rest of the players should be assessed and the option of kicking their butt out of OT should be considered. We don't need hype and names. What we need is dependable people who can perform on a regular basis

The message should be simple. Play well and rest assured you'll have your first team place. One bad game may mean the bench and probably a one way trip at the end of the season with the other legends to Sunderland

A proper ball-winning CMF. Even a loaner. There's got to be one who isn't impossible to obtain.

Can't we buy a better physio.

We had Toshiba build this new 25M state of the art medical suite at Carrington that has this revolutionary pre-injury detection imaging thingymajigamy. Seems more likely they've got it on the wrong setting and it's creating pre-injuries rather than detecting them. Maybe it's become self aware, like skynet.

Sell/release (and who/where to):

Keane (championship loan)
Amos (Anywhere)
Fellaini (Glue factory)
Anderson (Gillian Michaels)
Cleverley (Outer space)
Young (Hellraiser)
Valencia (Wigan)
Hernandez (Vidal bait)

Keep (and why):

Kagawa (sells sponsorships and can play a bit)
Welbeck (coz I love him)

Aye. That's the concern about panic buying now. We might just find ourselves with even more dross that we can't get off the wage bill next summer. I'd love us to get another (defensive) midfielder in, but I'd rather give the current crop of centre backs a season to see if they belong here than add someone like Vlaar. We've invested alot of time and money in the likes of Evans, Smalling and Jones. I still find it hard to believe that we can't cobble together a decent centre back pairing out of them plus Rojo and Blackett (I'm assuming we won't persevere with the 3-5-2 all season). They've all, to varying degrees, showed potential, and it'll be bitterly disappointing if they all fail to make the grade.

Same goes for right back really. I'd rather see if Rafael can actually kick on and get a decent amount of games in this season. If not, then buy a quality replacement next year rather than mediocrity now.

We're gonna have to force Rooney to retrain as a centre back and Van Persie to be a midfield destroyer

It's as simple as this.

Complete the signing of a proven ball-winning central midfielder and we'll be able to restore our credibility until the next transfer window opens. If we're still interested in Strootman in January, open the checkbook for him.

This is not rocket science, Eddie.

Seriously. After watching the Vidal thread implode (again), they just need to get on with it.

Looking more and more like there could be a Deadline Day panic buy, like Fellaini last year, if our main targets don't come off.

Any guesses who it might be?

Someone like Vidal or Carvalho isn't a panic buy but is Blind a panic buy?

Honestly, who cares? He would be our fifth signing this summer, with several players going out. So there's definitely a vision in place and some sort of decisiveness, which is the complete opposite of last summer. We can get better players in for several positions in January or next summer.

Blind is obviously somebody Van Gaal believes can do a job for us so I would not class him as a panic buy. Seemingly most people on the Caf don't rate him, but should we buy him, Van Gaal must think he's better than what we have.
