Time to panic buy?

From BBC: "Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, when asked if the club would be signing any more players in this transfer window: "No. This is same question your other colleagues have put. We know exactly what we are doing. We have lost in the Capital One Cup, and so tonight has cost us the chance of a trophy, and that is disappointing."
That is disappointing. Even a second grader can see we need a proper central midfielder in the squad. I was hoping for at least one more player.

I think it sounds different when you listen to it and I think he meant he wont answer the question.

He was just saying "No" as in "No, i'm not falling for your trap. You won't get anything from me".

Edit, maybe he meant he wont answer the question.

Yeah I just wanted to post that. Looks like he is saying no because the question was already asked, that's typical van Gaal, doesn't sound like: "No, we are not signing another player."

He often starts his sentences like that, don't think he meant no we aren't signing anyone, more no not this fecking question again!

More like Time to panic sell. Get rid of the fecking deadwood.
This.

Just remember for one minute it was our B side, a few players were making their first team debuts. Yes we shouldn't have been embarrassed like that, but panic buying for the first team won't help things at all. We NEED Vidal and an experienced CB. Another thing we need our fecking injured players back. Rafa, Shaw, Carrick, Herrera et al.
As we only have the League and FA Cup left now we should use this season like Liverpool used theirs last season (kills me to say it) keep our best first team playing week in week out, learn LVG formation and tactics and remove all the deadwood from the squad I.e Hernandez, Cleverley, Anderson, Young etc, players that have no future with us. Trim the squad, rebuild over the next 2 windows, promote some youth.
Our fully fit first XI is pretty decent we just need to keep them fully fit all season, one of our biggest struggles imo

We shouldn't even turn our nose against someone like Vlaar.

Our four centre areas CB and CM are a joke. Too much average. When we didn't play with a standout CM for many years, we had Vidic and Rio bailing us out.

Now sadly we got CBs who are average. And that is a bad combination.

Did that match really tell us anything new about what we need for the first team, or who needs to be sold?

We still need a top class midfielder or two and cover at full back and the likes of Young, Valencia, Hernandez and probably two of Fellaini, Fletcher, Cleverley and Anderson are expendable.

More like Anderson + 2. He never plays anyway as he'll spend 95% of the season injured. So we just need to get 2 midfielders in.

Vlaar, De Jong, Vidal.

This.

Even if we cant get Vidal. We need a organiser at the back , someone who knows how to play in a back 3, Vlaar is that.
De Jong will stop us getting walked through in midfield. Sven Bender is my preference if theres any chance of getting him

Still think we will buy STrootman for astronomical fee now or in Jan.

We need carrick back desperately he is a calming influence and the work he is does goes largely unnoticed.

half the squad needs phasing out. completely abject performances from experienced and new players alike. a lot of work on Van gaals hands but hes the man to do it.

We need players. Players that aren't these twats. We need Vlaar, De Jong, Blind, Robben, Sneijder, Seedorf, Jordi Cruyff, Van Bommel, Van Der Sar, Van Nistelrooy, all 4 members of the band Van Halen (including Sammy Hagar), Van Hammer, Van Morrison and a van to pile Young, Anderson and Cleverley into and tell them to seek other employment.

Am I the only one not bothered by this result? Our youth team lost. They were at home, it's the biggest game of their careers. Our players are low on confidence. How many appearances did our team have? How many playing this formation and tactic?

Yes, it was a poor result. It always is when you lose 4-0 but it's the League Cup. The result tells us nothing about our first team. Much rather our reserves get slaughtered 4-0 by MK Dons than our first team get stuffed by City or Pool.

Vidic should have stayed. That was Moyes' biggest feck up. And it was so bad that Vidic bizarrely announced his departure in the middle of the season.

Despite his lack of pace he still had loads to offer

Welbeck, Hernandez, Kagawa, Anderson, Januzaj, Evans and De Gea were all first teamers. Didn't do shit, any of them. Its not like we played an entire U21 side.

I'm more gutted about the fact we did not use this game to gain confidence for the first team. Van Persie is not fit so could have done with 45 mins. Blackett who despite his youthful mistakes seems our best CB so far, the more experience he gets the better. I probably would have only dropped Fletcher, Rooney and Jones tonight.

NO.

We have 7 players injured.
Midfield is a bigger problem than defense in my opinion. We have defensive players who can help when they come back but what about our midfield? If Herrrera is back next week, Fellaini and Carrick are the ones out. Yes Carrick can help but it might take him a few weeks to get back to full strength. Fellaini aint going to do squat when he comes back.

Di Maria--Herrera
---Fletcher---

Yes how did I forget our savior, Fletcher. It doesn't matter how many players are playing in front of him, he is still shit, will still misplace passes and can't defend.

Fletch Stays there until we get Carrick back. If we sign Vidal, Di Maria will play on the wing.

The funniest thing about this is that Woodward will have started the evening in great spirits after signing Di maria. Watching that game he must have been gulping at the prospect of what's going to be asked of him this week.

Were gonna panic buy I ca see the headline in Monday " UTD swoop Edison Cavani" that's our panic. In other news UTD need 2 cb's and at least 1 DM

A defensive midfielder and an experienced centreback is what I want us to get.

Ideally Vidal but if we can't get him, I'll settle for Gustavo or De Jong both should be obtainable I think.

For centreback I don't see any other player than Vlaar, he'd be ideal as LVG has worked with him, he is used to the system and I genuinely think he'd be the best call for that central position in our 3 man defence.

If we get those in, I'd say we are sorted, altough I wouldn't mind a player for the rightwingback, but I don't feel it is crucial. If we have the money, Cuadrado would be the player to get I think.

Am slightly worried about the lack of our links to centre backs.... at all.

Burnly are either thinking "we have a chance" or "oh hell are Utd going to be mad".
They most definitely are thinking "we have a chance" especially if they can keep Di Maria quiet. At this rate, they wont worry about anyone else.

It has been time to panic buy ever since we went from champions to 7th. Feels like we'd be a day late and a dollar short regardless of what we do right now. Our momentum is dead in its tracks, confidence - demolished. We stand no realistic chance of top 4 with the performances we've put up, hell we'd be lucky to be above 10th. Signing a big name along with the purchase of Di Maria could have won us the league, made us contenders for a CL even. Now, with the absolutely shambolic state we're in, they may, just may be barely enough for a top 4 finish and that's being optimistic.

Too little too late I'm afraid.

We need a cheapish David May type player to add a bit of beef at the back.

I hope to God Rojo works out, otherwise we're going to get dry bummed by any PL side this season if we have to rely on the likes of Smalling and Evans to stay fit and consistent. I have high hopes for Duncan Jones.
